People who believe that the possible emergence of the new Ogun state is due to David Mark’s manipulations or political ambitions are ill-advised. There are actually 45 requests for the creation of new states on the table of the Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution. Six of which may be granted.

So far, we know that David Mark supports Ogun, so it is safe to assume that Ogun will emerge from the South West zone.

Here is a list of the remaining requests for new states, each zone to get 1 new state:

South-East; Aba (Abia), Adada (Enugu), Orashi (Imo), Ugwuaku (Imo, Abia, Anambra), Etiti (Imo, Abia, Anambra), Equity (Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi), Njaba (Imo) and Orimili (Anambra, Imo, Delta). Abia, Imo, and Anambra to be broken up.

South-West: [s]New Oyo (Oyo), Remo-Ijebu (Ogun), Ijesha (Osun), Oduduwa (Osun),[/s] Ijebu (Ogun), [s]Ibadan (Oyo), Yewa (Ogun) Ose (Ondo), Lagoon (Lagos) and Oluwa (Ondo). [/s]

South-South: Ahoada (Rivers); Toru Ebe (Delta, Edo, Ondo), Ogoja (Cross River), Urhobo(Delta), Minji Se (Rivers), Ado (Delta), Confluence (Edo, Kogi, Nasarawa), Bori (Rivers), Anioma (Delta), Oil Rivers (Akwa Ibom, Rivers), Warri (Delta) New Delta (Delta) and Ethiope (Delta).

North-West: Karaduwa (Katsina), Corara (Kaduna), New Kaduna (Kaduna), Tiga (Kano), Chari and Bayajida (Katsina).

North-Central: Kainji (Niger, Edu (Niger, Kwara), Okura (Kogi), Borgu and Okun (Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Kogi and Apa(Benue).

North-East: Katagun (Bauchi), Amana (Adamawa) and New Borno (Borno).

If he's not politicking, what exactly is the reason for backing Ijebu that strongly?

Are you attempting to put words in my mouth? You fully understand that the Yoruba elders of the Ijebu extraction who were marginalized by PDP's OGD and currently being sidelined by ACN, are more responsible more making the request for Ijebu state and lobbying for David Mark's support. Hold those elders more responsible for the creation of Ijebu state if you believe the creation is a bad idea, do not blame this on David Mark's politicking.

Besides, the creation of Ijebu state is in the best interest of Ijebus, why does the creation of Ijebu state concern you?

Ndu_chucks has a point. David Mark will not be politicking with Ijebu state if Ijebu people did not request for it. he was even hailed at the Ojude-Oba festival when he said he was in support of the creation of Ijebu state.

It may sound like a joke but Ijebu state will make a killing if they focus there energy in producing and exporting Ijebu Garri all over the country and the world. Their motto can be something like this: Ijebu state - Garri for all.

He endorsed it because he was in Ijebu for an occasion. I guess when he finds himself in Asaba or Agbor, he'll also endorse Anioma state. For him, it's politics but for Ijebus and Anioma people, it's what they've been clamoring for.

Foremost, most comments here are lacking in-depth.

Without Ijebu there would be no Nigeria. Go to your history!

In May 1891 the British Acting Governor, Captain C.M. Denton C.M.G., left Lagos with an escort of Hausa constables (Hausas are from the Islamic north of Nigeria) to visit Jebu Ode to make agreements allowing the free passage of trade goods through Ijebu territory. However the Awujale refused to agree to the British requests and he also rejected the British presents given to him by Denton, doubtless fearing that to accept them would obligate him in some way.

The Jebus were believed to have up to 8,000 men and some old Snider rifles, but the tribe was not rated highly as fighters. This assumption was mistaken. On 19th May the Jebu made a determined stand on the north bank of a ford over the Yemoyi River, five miles south of Jebu Ode.The Ijebu were determined to prevent the British from crossing the ford and as warriors were shot down or ran out of bullets fresh relays of men from the rear replaced them.

If any region in Nigeria deserves a state, it was Ijebu. They fought the British hands down. Lossing about 1000 men to the Maxim Gun. Obasanjo was a cheat, he created Ogun state in 1975 and make Abeokuta capital since he came from there.

It is time to reward the Ijebus for their galantry. Yes, welcome Ijebu State!

David mark is just saying what Awujale and co want to hear. He can not stop them from believing all these fallacies of creating ijebu state. We ijebu people knew that creation of ijebu state is an illusion that is already forgotten long time ago.i dont know why they still bring this issue out. They are just wasting their time

There is not group in present day Nigeria that fought the invading British HARD like the Ijebus. It is well documented.

There is no maturity on my side for people that are purely and utterly moronic.

I have no maturity for a mooron that states the reason to create a state is because some people fought gallantly in 1891.

A fcking cretin! I have no patience for someone at that intellectual level. I just call them what they are.

you are not helping @Sagamite.

I will not join in your abusive nature. It is only a sign of weakness.

I have spoken, if any group fought for the INVADERS hard, it was Ijebus. That historical fact is clear and I have shown why Abeokua was made capital of Ogun state and also why it was called Ogun State just because Mr Obasanjo is Egba son.
