Six Years After School, No Job Yet. He Is Frustrated & Confused, Pls Advice Him by man119: 1:58pm On Nov 03, 2012
I graduated in 2006 with a second class upper and completed my youth service in 2007.

Knowing that I came from a poor background,I started preparing for aptitude tests and interviews during youth service, learning vital softwares within my financial capacity.

From 2007 till date,I have written so many tests and have being invited for several interviews, but at the end of the day, the" man know man" issue crops up (don't want 2 name firms) and those of us that are children of nobody get thrown into the gutters we came fr

The little money I make from daily construction site struggles (instead of staying idle) is nothing close to what is needed for her surgery. Apart from looking for daily bread, I write stories and songs to take my mind away from all I'm going through

Please I need your advice to be strong. I see every one here as my strength. Your advice means a lot to me right now.

Thanks for your time.

I feel for you Op. Since i can't say how you fared with your interviews and tests, it is difficult to come to a conclusion on your job chances.

Have you tried other things like studying for a masters? maybe it will improve your chances in the labour market. Best of luck!

Though the song is wacky but I will still advice you go with music because this is Nigeria - you can't predict any song that will make it. You might be the next big thing. Who knows!?.

I really feel for u, bro.

If u have been applying to only the big companies, pls try some small firms. It's not bad if you start small.
Hav u tried applying to a school as a teacher-instead of the construction job?
God will see you through

Or u don't ve passion for wot u read in d uni.

Why do you want to be an employee, when you could just as well be an employer of labour? Why go about looking for a job when you can start one at your backyard?

Brother, most people don't use their degrees in this day and age, find your talent and make something out of it, your future ambition shouldn't be working for someone, but being your own boss, strive towards that instead of giving yourself unnecessary stress. Trust me, if you do get that job you're looking for, some day, it will be a liability. not an advantage, there are no guarantees that you won't lose your job as quickly as you found it....

Bottom line, why go to Sokoto for something that's in your shokoto?

OP, after six years of joblessness, you should not be asking this question. Imagine yourself in an exam hall, confronted with a daunting question. would you stick to that particular question till time is up or would you move to the next question. My brother, give yourself a slap in the face and wake up from that slumber. No time oh!

My brother I don't know the kind of mind set you have but @ this point your going to need to begin thinking outside the box.

You read civil engineering in school and are already doing some construction hustle (which means you have some experience). What are you waiting for?

My advice for you is:

1. Go register a business name or company as in ltd.
2. Begin marketing yourself as builder/building consultant and source for construction contracts.

You would soon discover that you may not need a job to feed yourself and take care of family.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Everything happens for a reason but remember something bro, heaven only helps those who helps themselves. You desperately need to think of what you love to do and start doing it. Add your music as a hobby and maybe you'll find yourself in high places soon.

That's my advice for you.
