Politics › Re: Shehu Shagari: Nigerian President's Salary In 1979 (Throwback Photo) by 10mobile: 6:27pm On Jun 28, 2024 |
Sublimesuccess: Hmmm
That was when my father bought a brand new car for less than #4000. So the annual salary of the president then would buy almost 13 of such cars. Imagine selling that car for 8 million naira in our own time and a modern day president can afford to buy 13 such cars with his BASIC SALARY of 104 million naira. There was corruption then as well.
Even the cover price of the newspaper should tell you something. That newspaper cost 15k then, now it is #300. If you divide #50000 by 15k, it's the same result you get by dividing #100 million by #300, the current price of the newspaper, and I don't even think the official salary of the modern day president is up to #100 million. For the president nowadays to buy the same number of newspapers the annual salary of the president then could buy, he must earn #100 million annually. Let's be relative with the way we think.
Likewise I saw people thinking that the man selling roasted corn in London had struck gold by selling one for £1. Converting the money into naira is a fairy tale. A bottle of coke there is about £2. Imagine selling one cob of corn for £1 and buying a bottle of coke for £2! It's like garbage in, garbage out.
Based on the values copied from Wikipedia below,in 1979, $1=60k, therefore #50,000 then in 1979=$83333. Let's convert the $83333 back to naira in 2024 when $1=#1235 based on the table, $83333=#103 million. So #50000 then and #103 million today are equal!!! Cutting it down further, #5 in 1979 and #10000 today have the same purchasing strength. Your analysis is spot-on. However, the bottom line of any economy is not the exchange rate but the happiness levels of the populace. Why I disagree with the OP's simplistic understanding of exchange rate and agree with your relative thinking, I just hope you are not making a point for the current government because, overall, Nigerians were far happier in 1979/80s than they are today. That said, I also agree with you that there was corruption then too. At least, that's the reason Buhari and his boys gave for overthrowing the Shagari Administration. |
Travel › How A Nigerian Man Lost His Leg To Accident On His Way To See His New Baby by 10mobile(op): 11:50am On Jun 27, 2024 |
"I was at work that very faithful day when i got the news that, My wife had just given birth, this was my first child, you can imagine how excited i was. Everyone at work was happy for me & we all celebrated. I immidiately took permission from my boss to go see my son & the mom at the hospital, he told me it was ok & even gave me some cash to buy something for my wife & the baby.
I stood at the roadside waiting for a taxi, it took me about 12 mins to get one. 5 people were inside including the driver, i had already called my wife & informed her, i was on my way, i noticed that the driver was on high speed. I asked him severally to slow down but he kept ignoring, it was the third time that he finally responded angrily, saying that he has been driving for more than 13yrs & that i shouldn't teach him his job.
I seemed to be the only one complaining, as i noticed the other passengers were all quiet about it so, i decided to let go & stay mute as well. It was after about 10 mins of driving when, it all happened. The driver was trying to over take a heavy truck. After that, i only saw myself at the hospital after about 12hrs & i was told that, i was the only person in the vehicle that survived the accdnt & thats how i got to this stage of having just One leg
Well, i thank God for life, though ,i cry at times especially when i come across my old pictures. I remember, how i used to walk on both legs, but it's ok now😥🤦😭 i believe God has a reason for every circumstance in our lives. He saved me for a reason & I'm thankful" SOURCE

doncartel: You visited a friend at Maiduguri where you were caught toasting the junior wife of the Boko Haram commander.
You are then chained hand and leg at Sambisa forest. The commander tells you that ordinarily you should have been executed ASAP but for your remorseful face, crying and begging.
He also likes your story that you are a devout young muslim searching for a wife, and your promise to join their members in Lagos as soon as you are released.
You are then sentenced to an option of 100 strokes of horsewhip on the spot or 24 strokes daily for 1 week. Bear in mind that 75 strokes can kill a man and that the commander can change his mind to execution ASAP before the 1 week is over. Choose first. |

Is possible they were only hating on the girl just the way you guys are hating on her just because she's not beautiful in your eyes. |

Politics › Re: Correct Me If I Am Wrong On The Kano Emir Tussle by 10mobile: 6:20pm On Jun 20, 2024 |
givedemwotowoto: Based on jurisdictions, it's the jurisdiction of the State High Court to entertain this matter, because Kano emirates are purely based on Kano State laws, and have not been determined to violate the federal constitution.
From my understanding, the Federal High Court can only intervene in limited situations, for example, if the constitutional rights of the dethroned emir is violated, or when the Kano emirate laws violate the federal constitution
Also from my understanding, the Federal High Court is not a higher authority to the State High Court, they have separate jurisdictions. If the State High Court sets aside the ruling of a Federal High Court because it considers the matter to be a state matter and not federal, this order will be respected until the determination of a higher court, in this case, the Court of Appeal. Do you know the terms of the ruling. If you do, make it available and let's take it up from there. For now, you are making your conclusion on a very simplistic ground. |

Religion is evil. Many of us care so little about God but so much about religion in both Christianity and Islam. Then, we deceive ourselves with the blasphemous thinking that 'Religion = God'. Let's go back and address The Tap Root Of Nigeria's Problems. Otherwise, we can keep complaining forever because we are our own problems. Tetraozonaitera: Shut the fccck up. Dont include Christianity in the madness of religion. How many times have they insulted Jesus to the face of Christians and they wont raise a finger. Never generalize.
Even Sango worshipers, Ogun worshipers Ifa, Osun wont attack anyone if you insult their deity. Stop generalizing.
Nonsense. You just proved me right by insulting me in defense of Christianity. You're actually doing the same thing those Muslims did. I was once at a Christian prayer ground in Enugu where a group of 'holy' people were banding together to attack me physically IF NOT THAT I GOT REALLY VIOLENT TOO. It was all because I said that IPOB sit-at-home wasn't good for South-east economy. So, for you to tell me to shut the fcck up shows what you would have done if we were physically close. Jesus Christ didn't teach you to insult people, even to use dirty words like 'shutt the fckk up', in his defence. You shouldn't be the one defending your God. Your God should be the one defending you. |

I'm surprised everyone is saying the same thing here from different angles. I don't care if you think that the girl is ugly or a hook-up girl, or wearing leg chain. I don't like the girl either nor her dress sense Yet, I am saying that THE RESTAURANT IS WRONG for telling her to leave, IF HER DRESSING was the only reason. One of the reasons Nigeria will hardly ever work is that the people called Nigerians so easily support injustice against other people once it doesn't affect them. Even with all our Christianity and Islam. For those concluding that she is a hookup girl, how did you know that? And just because you you think she's ugly doesn't mean she should be treated unfairly and it would be right. MrBrownJay1: this particular establishment has a DRESS CODE, you dont fit their DRESS CODE, instead of going home and dressing properly and/or go spend your money somewhere else, you come to the social media international court for sympathy... olodo! Where did you get the part about dress codes from? Before Nigeria will ever be good, we must change ourselves. Let's read and meditate on The Tap Root Of Nigeria's Problems |
