MTN also imports its telecomunications equipment from foreign manufactures.

I think it is companies that source raw materials from farms are protected. The breweries use starch from cassava to make alcohol.....

Then it shows brewers have found alternatives.

If high cost gets so punitive, people will switch to things that are cheaper.

Please does anyone know the outcome/new details regarding the derivatives programme for the NSE before it became NGX?

Redoil:

minus MTN the rest of the stock mention are usually dependent on foreign currencies to import raw materials and machinery

80% of MTNs cost of operation is in foreign currency. Equipment is bought in foreign currencies, licenses are renewed in dollars, security patches are bought in dollars, some of their contractors are paid in foreign curencies and most importantly, they buy bandwidth from Orange International Carriers(I believe) in dollars.

Yet their figures quarter to quarter continue to impress.
Mtn are simply dominant in the nigerian telecoms market. They somehow find a way of pushing the cost to we the subscribers

These costs can be passed onto the consumers up till a point.

Look at banks, higher cost of energy, higher cost of consumables, higher cost of running the business and they still roll out good profits.

It is the consumers that usually suffer but up till a point where demand destruction (due to high prices) start to set in. At that point, the consumers stop buying or find alternatives.
Yes consumers bear the brunt, but to a certain point. Some items will then become exclusively for few privileged - meaning partial patronage & invariably affect company's booking good profits.

this just mean the company producing original item will suffer while the other company producing cheaper alternative will benefit

Yes, some items will be for those who can afford.

Example, I remembered when Aero flight tickets were 5K per trip (PH or Abuja to Lag). Instead of travelling by ABC, you could just take Aero. Later it rose to 15K per trip.

Now I heard that during festive period flight tickets got to 100K last year. And it is currently 50K per trip. So gradually people find alternatives instead of flying.

It is normal.

If you study inflationary pressure, you will see that it starts from those items that were commonly used or consumed (Say Nestle Milo, Joy Soap, Titus Sardines etc) and when these items get out of range for ordinary people, choices change instantly. People start to bid other items that are not considered at all in the past as an alternative (Say Cadbury Bournvita, Ose dudu, any type of sardine). These alternatives too will start competing in prices with those established brands and people migrate again to yet another lesser alternatives until every food item get out of hand.

That is why a smart investor, knowing that inflation is here, quickly starts storing those alternatives before price increases meet them. Or you start buying stocks of those companies that produce these alternatives.

Economics is just a social science. grin grin

The company should do more to use their oxygen to improve on the ROE and eps. 7% and 0.40 affecting their share price at d moment.

I had expected that by now Mansard would have delivered after reconstruction why is the stock price at bottom
As for Mansard, did you buy before reconstruction?
Are you still holding unto it till date?
Before reconstruction:
If you bought and didn't sell till date, then the fall in price wouldn't have affected you as such...
Reason:
** Before reconstruction , Mansard gave bonus issue of 17:7 (17 new bonus for every 7 held), that was 242% bonus issue declared and gave out.....
** Lets say you have 98,000units.....then your holdings woild have been:
(98,000 ÷ 7) x 17 = 238,000 + 98,000 = 336,000units

Post reconstruction:
** Nominal value changed from 50kobo to N2.00...
** Reconstruction: 1:4 (1 for every 4 held)
- New holdings would then become...
336,000 units ÷ 4 = 84,000units

Current Value: 84,000units X 1.60 = N134,400
Previous value: 98,000units X 0.83 = N81,340

*** Assuming you even bought pre-reconstruction @N1.50, your value for 98k units would have been N147,000!!
*** Final dividend of 0.25 Kobo paid for 2021 FYE
*** Interim Dividend of 0.06k now declared.....
*** This paid off more for long termers..... smiley
** Patient investors would benefit more. Better performance, economic recovery, etc may spike price appreciation too
** These were extensively discussed here in 2021**

Effect of the above should be reduced by the commencement of
Operation of Amukpe-Escravos Pipeline in October
While report looks bad with quarter to quarter basis
It gives a different scenario on a 9 months basis...
