ksam: For all those Nollywood actors and actress who wnt to feature in Hollywood even if its a minor role,,pls i wnt u to follow the lifestyle of my one nd only Sharuck kahn.he said nd i quote ''i will rather be a king in hell,,than be a slave in heaven'' i so much love this guy..
That's a nice quote and that's what i've been trying to make these Nigerians who are trying to break into the foreign scene to realize. It's better to a king in your country than to be a slave elsewhere.

Its not who you are.its what u have to offer.same faces have dominated d movie scene.young talents are denied d proper means to express dmselves and become greater stars.take a luk at hollywood, young actors and actresses pair up with dre older counterparts now in fame, rating, money but otherwise is d case in nollywood.have seen a nollywood movie where fatia balogun was in one scene only but she was the star of the poster.Nollywood has developed and gone places but dy still need to work on sum tnz.dts my take.genny babe, pls take it in gud heart, everyone respects and loves u.but rite now u got to sit ds one out.

50calibre: I laugh just seeing this nollywood celebrities trying by all means to break into Hollywood, first they have to realise that charity begins at home, they can't be acting in all these crappy and senseless nollywood movies and expect to be taken seriously, secondly they need to go to proper acting school and learn how to truly act.

One thing they don't realise is that an A-list Nigerian celeb is below a Z-list when it comes to the world stage because we don't focus on quality control, we just churn out garbage and expect to be taken seriously, just look at the type of music coming out of Nigeria these days.

Result is Genevieve who is widely regarded as one of the best actresses on Nigeria isn't good enough to be on a low budget Z-listing film like this.

Time to wake up

U have said it all . God bless U

Evil and wicked character will hinder the manifestation of God’s abundant blessings upon your life. If you are into masturbation, fornication, adultery, prostitution (private or public), patronizing prostitutes, abortion, lesbianism, homosexualism, watching pornography (I Corinthians 6:9-10), or any form of immorality, you need to repent.

I think Nigerians should be given the oppurrunity to represent their own,Despite the fact that am not a nollywood fan I think Nnaji's acting is good and could improve if this novel was to be written by a south African I tell u they would not allow foriegn actors to dominate their movie and u and I know that SA actors/actresses are not good when compared to Nigerians, this movie is suppose to be a break through for atleast one of our actor/actress.
Re: Genevieve Nnaji's Scenes Cut Out Of Half Of A Yellow Sun by Nobody: 2:02am On Feb 01, 2013
In my opinion Mercy Johnson is over the top and too theatrical. Overrated but can be good if given proper direction.

Most Nigerian actors are actually not that bad. Their talent shines through in movies written in indigenous languages.

English movies just make them look like they are trying to be something they are not.

The role Genevieve plays is a minor role and was not present in most of the book anyway. There are other Nigerians to look out for like Zach Orji, Onyeka Onwenu, O.C Ukeje.

Hey...don't get me wrong..when I say Gene is an A List actress I'm talking Nollywood standard.About editing and cutting out scenes I am quite aware of that. Not every minute a star acts is included in the finished film but he is never completely cut out of the movie. My point is if they cast Gene they would not completely cut her out of the movie or have her like an extra. About her playing a minor role...possible..and if she does then I guess the cast is much better than she is. At least she can now improve and up her level. On her thick accent...hmmm...she does!... but to me she can be understood more easily and is constant unlike the others with the fake accents...one minute American next minute British spiced with pidgin. Am anxious to see her in Dr Bello and Half ... just to see how she measures up with recognized American actors.Finally...Stephanie, Tonto, Mercy, Ini...hmmm....my eyes are wide open and am still waiting to be impressed. No Gene no sales....in Africa.

bonysmile: I like Genevieve; I think dat she's so sweet…
U r sweet n beautiful but honestly speaking, Genevieve is not a great actress as people erroneously refer. She can hardly conceal her true-life character in her drama roles. Genevieve is a very proud and arrogant person; it still shows no matter what role she plays. I've never met her in person, but many fans of nollywood agree with this.

shocked shocked

what a pile of nonsense!! Genny is the BEST nigerian actress, the most versatile actress to hit nigerian screens and all youve written is bs!!

I've never seen someone take over the role of a school girl, excel at playing a village girl one minute to playing a powerful business woman to playing a slave. She is brilliant!
Better than most hollywood actresses in fact. definitely 5 million times better than the rubbish casted for twilight and 20 million times better than tonto the pleb everyone keeps making noise about.

Please learn to differentiate between movies and reality! You've never met her, how do you know she is an arrogant person? Nigerians can ruin business for someone no be small kmt

Eeeya. Local champion things. Always painful to realise that you're not as important as you think you are.

Since the film is targeted at global (and more enlightened) audiences, Genevieve's 'star power' is entirely useless - as she is relatively unknown beyond Sub-Saharan Africa. This means she would be judged strictly on how good her scenes are, and if adjudged to be not so good, she gets cut out. Shikena.

I am not at all surprised.

Some days ago I was told to see a nollywood movue because it is 'good'.

It starred genevieve jim iyke and mercy jhonson.

I could not go beyond the third scene.

Genevieve is overhyped

aribisala0: Last time I was in Nigeria saw this guy on TV. Bald Yoruba guy . Heard he was a lecturer. Very good actor but God cheat am with looks. Obviously Old school. Can't remember his name.Impressive actor. Saw his photo again in this Charity football game recently. We have quite a few good actors but they are not popular c'est la vie.
I found the TV productions in Nigeria a lot better than much of this Nollywood stuff

I know the lecturer you are talking about. He works with the likes of main frame productions and baba Faleti. Those are the people who deserve the awards, the international scene and would not disappoint.

Genevieve is overhyped. Bimbo Akintola is a good actress.

Well sometimes 'stars' do take very minor roles... Hugh Jackman (aka Wolverine) in 'X-Men: First Class' had a cameo that lasted what? 10 seconds?

My dear that girl called Mercy Johnson sure can act. Imagine what a refined movie director(which I'm sure we don't have in Nigeria yet) can make out of her.

First let remove the inferiority complex and disregard her accent, infact her accent shows shes Nigerian and if she dares to fake another accent it will be obvious but one thing she should do is evolve, she would have nailed the James Bond movie if she had evolved i imagined her in that role successfully , one thing our actors and actresses dont get to do is researching their roles for instance if youre to play a role in a movie like lord of the rings, you have to read the book and imagine being the character and then bring it to life, but unfortunately our nollywood producers just give you the script , you cram the words and youre done, if we continue to stick to that level of production we wont get far. The actress called Etim has a natural shine to her roles and if she continues to develop herself she can put us up their but sometimes we need producers who can bring out the potential in the characters too.I am studying cinematography and media production and when i am done, i intend to bring a revolution to nollywood and my first place of call is theatre arts dept of most universities, you need to see the creativity of these students!

@Villageboy

Talking about the 'talent' you mentioned... the say Onyeka Owenu did a much better job... I completely agree with Sholay in that our stars can let their A-Listerism get to their heads and chase 'stardom' not acting.

Our older actors are far better than the current crop of actors, however I don't think this is more of a 'talent' issue. According to the book, Onyeka Onwenu's role is more significant to the story. It wouldn't make sense to edit her parts. Genevieve's role IMO can be done without and you can still make sense out of the story. This is hollywood and you have to edit it within a time frame. A lot of people had concerns about how insignificant her role was when it was announced she was being played as Miss Adebayo. I guess people's concerns finally came true. lipsrsealed

Can't wait for Omar to descend on this thread. grin

This is simply a ploy my hollywood to humiliate nollywood and make us feel like we inferior. Get the most celebrated actress in nollywood and cut her scene of. I am sure they thought of this before they came for her.

Keep your head up geny, if they like let them cut ur scene to pieces, as long as you were paid in full.
If they call u again, go and get Paid. If they like let them throw ur scene away.

On a more serious note after watching Hollywood movies, i found out that some of our actors and actresses doesn't know how to act. I was not impressed by Genevieve's acting in "Ije". She didn't do well. I would say that the problem is from some of our directors. They dont even know how to direct they think is all about shouting. May God help us
Re: Genevieve Nnaji's Scenes Cut Out Of Half Of A Yellow Sun by omar22(m): 11:58am On Feb 01, 2013
VillageBoi: Nollywood’s pride, Genevieve Nnaji may have had the privilege of working with a crop of Hollywood’s A-list actors on the set of Chimamanda Adiche’s Half of A Yellow Sun yet-to-be-released film directed by Niyi Bandele but not the pleasure of seeing her role when it comes to cinemas. Genevieve’s scenes weren’t expressly important to the story, a reliable source that has seen the movie told E24-7MAGAZINE. “I figured that because of Ms Nnaji’s way of acting, her character dragged the storyline, so it was cut out during editing. Obviously, if she was good enough like Onyeka Onwenu, she would have been given a major role in the film.

“Her minor role was compensation to Nollywood. So, the film producers might be apologetic for cutting out her parts, as she should not try to go to the cinemas to see the film with her family members, else she will give herself heartache.”

It was a very intense exercise for the post-production team; in fact, they ended up cutting out some characters from the book to beat time in order to stay focus and professional. Test audiences, we gathered did not like those scenes.

According to the source, the director realized some footage may not be needed and unfortunately many of those scenes involved the Tango with Me star actress, such that if she appears on screen at all, it will be in a significantly reduced capacity from what her role was in the script.

Yes, you may get to see her in a party scene. This development, no doubt will be shocking to her fans and observers of the industry because of her status and influence but it is a usual occurrence in other climes to cut actors out of finished films.

So NL people, what do you all think?
