... And what is the point you are trying to make?

It is just like calling God, Father or Healer or The Great Provider.

solomon111: Actually the popes have the uneviable title of being chronic child molesters.
It is a known truth, all over the world.

Plagiarism is the order of the day on NL. I am not an attention seeker but, it is very bad to claim ownership of someone else's post by hiding original post and rephrase, repost and claim authority over it. No wonder our certificates no longer "carry weight" before employers like Dangote groups (graduate truck drivers)

omicron: You are a disgrace to womanhood.

Agreed, calling him a child molester is going too far, but the facts remains that when he was a Bishop and a Cardinal; hundreds of Child molestation cases were cases were forwarded to him so that he can defrock the offending Priests; the case of the molestation of about 200 deaf kids in Wisconsin comes to mind and he did nothing about those cases.

Legally, he fits the profile of an accomplice or an accessory after the facts. I know that the consciousness of his followers will revolt against such a label, but that does not change the facts.

Answer the question; how does resignation from one position stop him from continuing to do God's work? Does resignation mean he can no longer preach, write or teach?

Dear Brothers,
I have convoked you to this Consistory, not only for the three canonizations, but also to communicate to you a decision of great importance for the life of the Church. After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry.

I am well aware that this ministry, due to its essential spiritual nature, must be carried out not only with words and deeds, but no less with prayer and suffering. However, in today’s world, subject to so many rapid changes and shaken by questions of deep relevance for the life of faith, in order to govern the bark of Saint Peter and proclaim the Gospel, both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months, has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me.

For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter, entrusted to me by the Cardinals on 19 April 2005, in such a way, that as from 28 February 2013, at 20:00 hours, the See of Rome, the See of Saint Peter, will be vacant and a Conclave to elect the new Supreme Pontiff will have to be convoked by those whose competence it is.

Dear Brothers, I thank you most sincerely for all the love and work with which you have supported me in my ministry and I ask pardon for all my defects. And now, let us entrust the Holy Church to the care of Our Supreme Pastor, Our Lord Jesus Christ, and implore his holy Mother Mary, so that she may assist the Cardinal Fathers with her maternal solicitude, in electing a new Supreme Pontiff. With regard to myself, I wish to also devotedly serve the Holy Church of God in the future through a life dedicated to prayer.

A cardinal from Ghana and Arinze of Nigeria are said to be top favorites.

I seriously doubt Cardinal Arinze, he is 81 years old (born 1932). The current Pope was even younger than Arinze when he was select in 2005, I do not see the Cardinals going for someone very old again.

When will africa have her own calender? As long as we remain in the shadows of the western world in all departments,we will continue to suffer.

And you are using computer and Internet to type and send this? Why not send a town crier to say this?

Though times are changing I doubt they will elect a BLACK pope, but you never know, I mean who would have figured that the US would elect a Black president, and with religion on the decline what better way for the Catholic church to market to the youth and world in general by electing a black pope. I just have a hard time, knowing what most italians think of black, bow and praising a black pope, but like I said times are changing.

Resigning dosen't mean he's not going to continue preaching word of God,do you think the pope duty is just to sit down doing nothing, for your info they kneel up to 12 hours straight praying and thats not healthy for a man of his Age,even the bible saith "God help those who help themselves"

Funny you say this. The first thing that came to my mind when I heard he was stepping down was STRANGE, BUT then I thought....ITS THE BEST TIME TO STEP DOWN. With all the issues that are being put forth to the Pope to rule/judge on, this must be the most challenging time. Homosexuality, same sex marriages, abortion etc etc etc. Whether you agree or not, you do agree as the Pope you have some tough decisions, so why not simply step down. I mean its a WIN WIN. No one will blame you when you say you can do it any longer due to your age, I mean do they want you to do the job without full conviction. Also you will get praise for not being power hungry I mean you are stepping down and giving someelse a chance and the biggest WIN, YOU DONT have to rule on any wordly judgements that are becoming more and more delicate.
