Desola: As nice as these pictures are, it pains me that development seems to be taking place in one state of the west. I would be happier to see such development recorded in other Yoruba states like Ibadan, Abeokuta and the rest. I want other Yoruba states to give Lagos a run for its money!Forget. Ogun state is currently witnessing the greatest DEVELOPMENTAL STRIDES a state could witness pari pasu its resources. You need to visit Ogun to see development. Amosun is a great man. |

A this stage Over hyping Lagos will not help anybody and will not profit the over hypers anything, i have often repeated in this Forum that Lagos is walking on Borrowed Lagos and if i were to borrow the words of a word smith Lagos is actually a giant on clay foot. I will take the pains once again to compare the 2 different states in Nigeria Lagos and Akwa Ibom The Budget of Lagos for 2013 was a mere N497.2B out of which it has only recorded 67% performance in the first quarter and assuming it records 67% all through that would yield N333B a little above the capital budget of Akwa Ibom Akwa Ibom Budgeted N459.00 Only N118.79 billion of the budget is allocated to recurrent expenditure, while the remaining N304.515 billion is for capital projects and programmes, thus representing a recurrent-capital ratio of 1:3 Both states are coastal states but while Lagos relishes on the Apapa port designed ,built and maintained by the FG to boost internal maritime business Akwa Ibom is on its way to be the first state to build a deep sea port on its own. It is also on Record that Akwa Ibom is the first and only state to build and operate an international Airport and a Hangar. The international Airport and Deep sea port of Lagos state is still on the Drawing board since 2003. While Lagos has served for more than 98 years as the Capital of Nigeria and the commercial capital , the State of Akwa Ibom was created in 1987 and is just 25 years as one of the 36 states of Nigeria. Even though a non oil producing state and with virtually no meaningful solid mineral or cash crop, Lagos boasts of virtually the Headquarters of all the Oil Companies and oil servicing companies in Nigeria ,the presence of The headquarters of all the Telecommunication companies in Nigeria and the presence of all the Maritime company headquarters even though Nigeria is bounded by numerous coastal states. This is nothing but a distortion of economic planning, just the same way putting the headquarters of cocoa corporation to Borno a non cocoa producing state would have been. So what i am saying in effect is that to a very careful observer Lagos is actually overrated, overhyped and over praised based on its privileged and vantages position as a former capital and presently commercial capital, Other less endowed and privileged states are doing much better and accomplishing much more than Lagos would have done it was never a former capital 1 Like |

Eko Ile: You can present what ever facts you feel i omitted, i did not intend to overawe any nerve but as a widely traveled and knowledgeable person to present the facts the way it is rather than be carried away by regional sentiments and lagos champion euphoria. The title of the thread said rising Colossus , this is wrong Lagos is not a rising Colossus , Lagos is saturated and congested with very little room for growth and expansion compared with Akwa Ibom (the fastest growing state in Nigeria at the moment), the title should have read something like Lagos the saturated colossus or Lagos the aged Colossus. in 2013 Lagos spent N333B over a human population of 18M or 9 M official population Lagos spends 37,000 per individual a far outcry lower than 90% of the Niger Delta states while Akwa Ibom spent N459.2 over a population of 5 million official estimates Akwa Ibom spends 91840 per individual more than 200% over what lagos spends on an individual , this makes Akwa Ibom the undisputed Giant of and Rising Colossus of Nigeria i am very sure the figures from the Core Niger Delta states will be very intimidating and mind blowing but i decided to use Lagos and Akwa Ibom for the comparison Being a Colossus is not just the Roads and houses with paved and interlocking stones and solar powered street lights in a boulevard in Ikoyi or lekki but boils down to some very vital fundamentals, just like nobody buys or invest into a company based on the Company premises , official cars, well manned lawns and painted factory buildings without looking into the books of the company Lets trade facts and not insults 3 Likes |

kettykings: I'd just love to see your facts or for you to show us where your facts are from. Until then, its just another made up rant we see on NL. BTW, development and progress is not always about money since money can not bug vision, it can not buy good managerial skills, it can not buy ideas or competent teams needed to move the society forward. Example, some states like the one you mentioned, the governor can not hide the fact that he's a bad manager and custodian of public trust and funds.. Dishing out public funds to celebrities, buying cars for celebrities and sending people to Dubai with state funds is a tragic sign of lousy and incompetent leadership. Wasting public funds on frivolous luxuries like private jet and luxury armored vans is a sign of leadership in disarray... Carrying such leaders like the one I described above on your shoulders as good governance is a terrible reflection of your own flawed and corrupt state of mind. BTW. Yes lets trade trade facts by comparing fashola and apabio' s achievements since they both entered office around the same time. 2 Likes |

kettykings:All this story you wrote doesn't change the fact that Lagos dwarfs Akwa-Ibom in everything and that doesn't seem its about to change for the next 100 years and beyond. Companies can't situate their HQs there because nothing is happening there. Akwa-Ibom ought to have attracted international attention if it was showing all that potential but its only attracted yours so far. |

ghboy: Lagos has more population, how would you expect a population of 7,937,932 to be cleaner, less polluted and less congested than a population of about 2milliong like do you even think, and sincerely if you compare the developmental strides made in Nigeria compared to Ghana you wiill see that Nigeria is actually meore developed than Ghana, due to population differences you really shouldn't compare Nigeria to Ghana |

Akwa-Ibom ought to have attracted international attention if it was showing all that potential but its only attracted yours so far. If the Chinese had this mentality they would have rather than develop China moved on mass to New york and London. Within the Last 45 years , south Korea moved from being behind Nigeria to being among the 10 most developed and richest countries in the world. if you checked very well like i pointed out Akwa Ibom is spending 200% on its population more than Lagos is spending/investing on the lagos population , if Akwa Ibom gets it right in Infrastructure, manpower and resources it would record an unprecedented growth rate twice what lagos is experiencing (that is if Lagos is actually growing) |

kettykings: . So basically, your facts are unsubstantiated nonsense and rumors about some actress and birthday.? Stop spewing lies and trash you can not back upn with facts. Must you people turn everything into comedy? lmao. You answered everything with your comedic rant, but you ignored the challenge because you saw your trip hole. Again, both governors entered office at the same time so let's compare their achievements, let's compare what they have.built and.commissioned. Stop dodging. Put up or shut up 1 Like |

Eko Ile: Commissioned Projects Akwa Ibom has commisioned an International Airport and a hangar project mean while the Lagos international Airport has been in the drawing board since 1999 Akwa Ibom has commissioned an IPP generating 190 megawatts meanwhile Lagos has only commissioned 10 MW (colossus indeed) Several Dualised major highways Lagos has not only taxed heavily the Epe, Aja Inhabitants but move at an incredibly slow pace of 1 Km /year 5 star hotel Lagos has not built any but depends on investors who have no other means of income than politics also see http://www.pointblanknews.com/ListofAkwaIbomProjects.pdf in progress Development of a fishing Hub A dam nkari dam has has no dam projects as it they are required The Ibaka Sea port The Lagos sea Port has been in the drawing board since 1999 and it is depending on NPA The rail link to Calabar and Aba Lagos rail link is being awaited Olympic sized stadium Lagos has 3 stadiums all owned by the Federal Government Industrial project in Eket Lagos has new plans for an Economic hub in lekki/epe but still in the drawing board (possibly will be implemented before 2014) 3 Likes |

Lagos has a bigger and better airport even 2,lagos has a functional stadium,Lagos as better network of roads,Lagos is in fact on track to being a Mega city,The light rail is in very advancd stages while tht of Abuja is still on paper. Lagos as got 2 seaports,a stunning marina with picturesque skyline, world class entertainment spots.Luk inshort your Abj is a big fraud with nothng worthwhile other thn ASO ROCK and NASS.Let you ABj hav half the population of lagos and see if your insfractructure will not collapse . kettykings: That's it? lmao. 1. To start with, what do you want me to do with.manufactured stories on some online tabloid nonsense like point blank? 2. Do you have official state documents and pictures? 3 . Are you telling me this is all the man has achieved since he entered office? I can even count everything you listed on one hand? lmao. 4. Your seaport is not a commissioned project. 5. States shouldn't be building hotels with tax payers money. 6. Is the rail link a state or federal project and is it a.commissioned project? 7. Lagos state built the first and largest IPP in Nigeria when apabio so cut that noise about IPP. 8. We have Olympic size swimming pool in Lagos at Teslim Balogun, it was used last year during the national sports festival and it doesn't belong to your incompetent abuja uncles. The ones that belongs to your uncles are dry and and entertaining lizards and other reptiles. 9. The ikoyi link bridge alone trumps all the 2 or 3 village flyover bridge. 10. You can not list at least 10 commissioned roads in apabios state. 10. there are almost ten industrial estates in lagos and ikeja industrial alone trumps every industrial activity in the whole of that region and not just akwa. Questions. Where are the water works? There are 15 in lagos. Where are the schools? Where are the hospitals and clinics? Where are the parks and rec centers? Where are the skill acquisition centers. There are 17 in lagos. Where are the low cost housing. Fashola built many and there is one currently on the front page. Where are the orphanages and homes for abused women. Where are your state institutional infrastructures like the courts, agric institutes. Show us your water jetties and terminals. Show us anywhere in Nigeria with visionary projects like lagbus, brt, ten lane expressly with brt and metro rail access. show us your cultural institutions like freedom square Maybe I should stop here and allow you to catch up before continuing.. I'm waiting . With almost the same amount of money like lagos state and the meager nonsense you listed and with just less than 5 million people, apabio is a huge disappointment. 2 Likes |

@kettyking, pls dont waste your time telling eko ile anything about the pacesetter state Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom is an emerging economy in nigeria whether Eko ile likes it or not. Eko ile is the leader of the three blind mice lost in the pockets of his demigod Tinubu and fashola for no other reason than ethnic bigotry. This blind ethnic bigot will never see anything anything good outside his backyard, Lagos. A city built by the federal government and dashed to his demigods to loot and plummet to oblivion. Take away all the federal government investments and influences out of lagos then you will immediately see how empty lagos will be. Eko ile seems to have heart attacks anytime Akwa Ibom is mentioned because he knows that the state wholly developed with its state funds with NO assistance from daddy federal government will overtake it in the near future on becoming Nigeria's business and tourism hub. Time will tell. Eko ile should be ashamed that his beloved lagos is ALWAYS competing for the worst city to live on the planet. With all the Niger Delta oil money invested in lagos for decades yet the place is still competing for the worst city is just a pity. Eko ile hide your face in shame go out there and compete with other oil and non oil capitals in Africa and the world. Lets see how far. He often brags about population but he is so blind to know that the city of Tokyo with the largest city population in the world of 33 million people has the best transport system in the world but when you look back at his beloved lagos what do u get: TOLL GATES with all funds going thru his demigod. Abeg I don tire. Eko oni baje my foot. |
