@okine4real, I ve done some research abt dis issue of how many litres can 1 get fro a number of palm trees. I wan to use manual method being apply in rural areas in north central nigeria where palm tend to do well. Here, dey count d number of bunches and a drum. 15 matures bunches of palm head wil giv u a drum of palm kernel which if process wil produced 20-25 litres of palm oil. Using a hybrid palm tree dat fro a palm tree 1 can harvest up to 10 to 12 heads. Put it dis way, if fro 2 palm trees we can get 30 liites of palm oil den fro a 1000 palm trees 1 can harvest abt 15000 litres of palm oil. I also got fro a reIiable source in a plantation in akure dat fro 200 palm trees dey harvest abt 1200 litres of palm oil. hope house, am correct too 2 Likes 1 Share |

When calculating ,it is always better to use average values. But from what I know a matured palm can give up to 50 litre of oil depending on a lot of factors. rainfall, fertilizer application. mantainance and extraction method used .average yeilds may varry across nig. |
Re: Starting An Oil Palm Plantation by MANGAM(m): 1:00pm On Sep 16, 2013 |
Yes certain factors like spacing of the palms, application of fertiliers, clearing from bush fire mantainance of the palm trunk and general mantainance of the farm also affect yield. If all the necessary factors ar put in place d palms wil start yielding in d first 3yrs of planting and btw the next 10-15 yrs d palms wil be at der peak. |

I also got fro a reIiable source in a plantation in akure dat fro 200 palm trees dey harvest abt 1200 litres of palm oil. hope house, am correct too I do not think your calculation is correct ohhh. But the one of 200 palm tree producing about 1200 liters is more correct and i think its also similar to mine own calculation. Remember i said it all depends on the density of the oil. You would agree with me that, if you buy palm oil in 20 liters, and if its in a liquid form that is one part, also if you take that same oil and you make it solidify, you would agree with me that, since the oil has solidify, the oil would not full to the top of the 20 liters keg anymore, at this level, the oil density is more ticker than the oil which is in a liquid form. Let me put it this way, if mine palm oil is ticker, i would need a 30 liter gallon to fill a 20 liter gallon But if mine oil is in liquid form, a 20 liter gallon would fill a 20 litter gallon. This is why you would notice, if you want to cook beans and your oil is in a solid form, you just need to pour a little content of that solidified oil in the beans, and once that is done, you would notice, the oil would now melt and you would then notice that, you have lots of oil on top of the beans. meaning a lot of oil has come together to form a little oil in your sight. But if your oil is in liquid form, you would need to pour lots of oil in the beans. So therefore, its the density that determines the amount of liters. Also put it this way.. if i sell oil to you, and i have mixed lots of water with mine oil, i would have more liters to sell, than someone whom is selling palm oil that is not mixed with water. From what i know... one hectare would give you two and half tonne of palm oil and half tone of palm kernel oil. But it is the density of the oil that determines the liters or should i say its the thickness of the oil that determines how many liters one would get. That is why companies buying diesel in large quantity check the density of diesel before they buy. If you mix diesel with kerosine, the diesel would be lighter and you have more liters of diesel. I hope am making sense. 1 Like 1 Share |

THIS THREAD IS A WONDERFUL CLASSROOM. I LEARN NEW THINGS ANYTIME I COME HERE. For you guys that have planted already or are looking to plant soon, the future is bright. I've been reading article upon article about the increasing demand for palm oil globally and how companies are switching from other kinds of oil to palm for their industrial production. The future is surely bright. Read New York times article below.

Morning, I once read abt the effect of cultivating oil palm plantation in some asian countries in terms of deforestation of large forest areas. Here in Nigeria the worst deforestation is looting of our national treasury by those we called our elected leaders. The natural forest in Nigeria are long gone particularly in north central Nigeria where the govt is encouraging tree planting to check the advancing desert sands taking agriable land. Again, oil palm plantation has also checked erodig of the soil by erosion and further creating back the natural environment |

We have 14.7 acres of land filled with palm trees for sale at Ado, Ota, Ogun state. lt is directly opposite a large mechanised farm - Ogun State Farm Settlement Scheme, and just 20 minutes from Lagos through the Agbara axis. lt is close to the Chinese Free Trade Zone. |
