I personally think that we the youth have to emulate what recently happened in Egypt. So that our corrupt officials will know that we can actually act. If not, we will keep hearing this bad news so often. We really need revolution in this country. Please let us borrow leave from Egypt or Brazil and violently protest in order to fight for our rights.

you are right but at the same time i'm very sure you won't do anything than saying/writing things like online. Meaning you are not ready to die for your dear country to save your future kids.

cegno: No nation can have better leadership than it deserves. Our political leaders today are simply a reflection of the larger society. Most of us if given the opportunity I am sure will not do better than the people there today. We need to change our consciousness, we need to imbibe the virtue of selfless service and sacrifice without which we cannot move forward as a nation.

Why would people not change their orientation, always lying to themselves and looking for who to blame- now the society is to blame abi?, imagine this statement *the society breeds their leaders*, so the society in the 80's breeded the likes of lawrence anini - abi? Or abacha? For your information its the leaders actions that determine how the citizens behave and what they become, when OBJ *baba iyabo was at the helm of affairs wasn't this country moving in a positive direction*- he had his issues though.
If that's to far an example look at fashola, that honestly wants to change lagos and wants to develop lagosians, lagosians automatically fell In line *yes their are a few bad eggs*, but things are happening, this President has shown his own agenda, and only a foolish person would not heed these, sign

chidindufrank: From Obasanjo's regime 1976 down to Yardua's tenure 2007, Nigeria maintained the number one(1)position on the log I.e corruption was functioning at 100% capacity. But, under Godluck Jonathan, Nigeria is now 8th on the log according to op but 12th on the log according to BBC I.e corruption is functioning at 44% capacity. This clearly shows that under GEJ the country is moving forward and before GEJ leaves office in 2019 corruption must or would have been completely wiped out. Do you know what it means to fall from number one(1) position that you've maintained for over 36years on corruption log to 12th withing 2years of GEJ's tenure? My people this report is not that bad. GEJ is working.
Probably, Naija bribed someone to put Her name in 8th, instead of 1st....at least this is better than our positio on FIFA ranking

America has learned how to be subdued with corruption undecided
Former Vice President Dick Cheney's company was given $39.5 billion in Iraq-related contracts over the past decade, with many of the deals given without any bidding from competing firms, he also recieved $568-million contract renewal in 2010 to provide housing, meals, water and bathroom services to soldiers, a deal that led to a Justice Department lawsuit over alleged kickbacks, as reported by Bloomberg.
Watson Institute for International Studies at Brown University said the war in Iraq cost $1.7 trillion dollars, not including the $490 billion in immediate benefits owed to veterans of the war and the lifetime benefits that will be owed to them or their next of kin.

According to a recent study by the European Commission, the European Union’s executive body, nearly three-quarters of citizens in E.U. states perceive corruption as a major problem in their own countries. More than half believe it has increased in recent years.

“The euro crisis has made the public much more aware of abuse of public office,” said Timo Lange, a leading member of LobbyControl, an independent organization that monitors lobbyist groups and how they influence the way lawmakers vote or how contracts are awarded.

I just want to point out that this is a GLOBAL problem not just an African problem the Elite are openly displaying greed!

Corruption at the level practised in Nigeria is not global and definitely not African.

In West Africa alone, corruption is very minimal in some countries. As a visitor or an expatriate, you learn that processes are organized and at the correct cost - you get receipts for the exact amounts paid and these costs are made public.

And beyond West Africa, a good example is South Africa,where a tourist can claim a VAT refund at the airport on goods purchased during a visit - this is just one commendable practice evidence of non-corruption amongst many others. There are many more examples of African countries where processes are organized, transparent and bribe-free.

You certainly cannot call corruption an African problem because there are governments in Africa that ensure that corruption is at a low level - and this in itself isn't easy because there are greedy people everywhere. Nevertheless, the greedy ones a just a small percentage of the populace.

Corruption is NOT an African 'thing'.

How did they get those statistics they use to evaluate nigeria and later placed us on 8th position. I know they got their data from fake organisations sponsored by government. A country were we have
water=26=fail
electricity=40= pass
road=30=fail
security=5=fail
education=20=fail
bribe=100=excellence
corruption=100=excellence
health=25=fail
etc
infact those that did the rating are also corrupt for rating us 8th position, instead of our normal first position. Give us our award we know we top the list.
