eaglechild: I really feel for Yorubas.
For a hardworking and focused group of people to come to the nations former capital and develop it, taking up all the choice areas and leaving the slums for them.
It think that really sucks.
I mean the type that will make u want to reach out for a bottle of rat poison and put yourself out of misery like the custom dictates.
I guess the major disturbance is that tout-ism is fast becoming obsolete and giving way to more acceptable sources of income and they can't compete.
I really wonder why they gloat over other people's hard work in a country's capital albeit former.

I wonder why no other portion of their land is developed.
I mean why is adoekiti desolate and ibadan a pitiable scenery of dilapidated rusted brown roofs begging for civilisation.
Why is Oshougbo gripped by the tenets of a false native religion.

How come only Lagos saw the 'light'?
Could it be that a progressive group of people found it humane to develop and share their forward thinking nature.
I hope what happened to most of Africa when the Europeans left will not happen to Lagos.
I pray the buildings will not stagnate and turn rusty like the buildings their true native towns.
I hope their nothern masters will not turn every street corner into minarets like Ilorin.

Whatever happens the property of the progressives which are in the majority will not be touched.

Ogun state's IGR is aboutN4bn monthly which is three times higher than the highest IGR of any state in the SE

The GDP of Oyo state is higher than that if any SE state

The landmass of Oyo is as much as all the land masses of all the SE states (most of which is ravaged by erosion) combined

As for Lagos, seven different sectors dominate economic activities in Lagos State, led by manufacturing which, interestingly, contributes 29.60 percent of the state’s GDP figures. Road transport follows closely contributing an average of 26.47 percent of economic activities in the state. Other sectors in order of dominance include building and construction (19.60 percent); wholesale and retail (8.39 percent); telecommunications (3.71 percent); financial institutions (3.51 percent); and real estate (2.01 percent). The seven sectors account for 93.39 percent of economic activities in the state.

Yorubas control these sectors and have contributed the most to the development of the state. I don't know what the rationale of 'without Igbos Lagos will be nothing' stems from. Economically from the GDP figures, Igbos do not contribute more than 15% of the state's GDP as the only sectors they dominate constitutes less than 9% of the GDP. You can take a walk into any blue chip company in Lagos and you won't be surprised that Yorubas dominate. What does trading contribute really? The whole of the sector doesn't even make up to a tenth of the state's GDP and its not like all traders are Igbos. Go to Oke Arin and see Yoruba women that can buy the whole of the SE, go to Alade, check out large malls etc.

The same Oyo state with the highest population of mad people andstreet kids begging for Almajiri schools?
Hahaha

Read on

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of three Almajiri schools in Oyo State.

The Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, made this known in Ibadan on Friday during a courtesy call on Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
Wike, who was in the state to assess the progress of work at the construction site of the schools, said the one in Oyo town would be ready in May.
He, however, said the contractor handling the school building in Ibadan had been ordered to leave the site because of the poor quality of work.

The governor, who commended the minister for approving the Almajiri schools in the state, urged the federal government to increase the number to five

Yes the same Oyo

Isn't it funny that mad people and almajiris are more prosperous than your sane and industrious people?

Live with the facts that Lagos wasn't and still isn't made by Igbos but Yorubas and some multinational

Deal with the heartache that even the other SW states are steadily overtaking the biggest SE states

Endure the notion that Yorubas lead in these places and have created the environment to make these things happen

I guess this letter was never delivered to the Anambra State Govt. As we can all see, it was address to the Anambra State Govt through it Liaison office in Lagos. My submission is that somebody in the Anambra State Liaison office did not do their working of acting on that letter by calling the attention of the state government to the development before it got to this stage.

If I am the judge assigned the Anambra State suit, seeing these series of correspondence between the two state I will throw the file suit out of the window.

For some time now, many indigenes of Ibadan have become worried by what many have termed to be a time bomb ticking away by the day and getting set to explode in the near future. The sight of school age children between the ages of 8 and 11 roaming the streets when they should be in schools where they would be prepared ahead for challenges that would come their ways later in life has caused many residents of the Oyo State capital a lot of worry.

Street Journal’s investigations showed that these children sleep in street corners, under sheds and sometimes in kiosks in the Mokola-Sabo axis. At times, they capitalise on loopholes to sleep in front of shops and at a point in time, they had to be driven away from the Recreation Club where a number of them had sneaked in and were almost making the place a home.

?
Incidentally, the children are all boys and they make a living for themselves by doing odd jobs just like the almajiris in the North.
These boys have strategically divided themselves into groups. A group operates from Mokola Roundabout while another one operates from the junction leading to the Cultural Centre from Elizabeth Road.

Most times, they capitalize on the functioning of the traffic lights or wait for a traffic jam before swinging into operation. They wipe car windscreens for no definite price. The small boys arm themselves with a bottle of dissolved detergent which they spray on the windscreen and subsequently use their other implement to wipe it off. Telling them not to touch your car does not in any way affect their hope of getting money from you as they simply come to your window side and ask in Yoruba, “e joo e fun wa l’ówo ka fi jeun” (please give us money so that we can have some food to eat).

Investigations have shown that none of the boys goes to school. Attempts to communicate with them in English language failed as they were just looking, unable to respond to any of the questions asked. Some of them disclosed that their parents were not able to send them to school as they had no money to do so. Some others said they resorted to fending for themselves as their parents were not willing to cater for them.

Apart from cleaning windshields and begging for alms, some of them fish in the “Dandaruu” pond in Mokola and sell the day’s catch by the roadside. The unsold are apparently consumed when they retire to their dens. The boys are on the road for the better part of the day and they eat only for fuel, caring less about nutritional value. They feed on poff poff, buns and when the market is good, they buy soft drinks, on normal days, pure water is okay.

While it is obvious that the kids took to the streets because their parents do not care, they don’t seem to feature in the plans of the state government either. These abandoned street kids operate on roads that are frequented by government officials, yet nothing has been done to either take them off the roads, compel them to go to school or learn trades that can make them stand at par with their mates in the future.

In the Second Republic, the Government of Oyo State made education free. Some of the children that benefitted from the scheme when Chief Bola Ige was the Governor of Oyo State now occupy top positions thus making the state the better for it. Quite unfortunately, the story has not remained the same as successive administrations in the state have changed focus as there is less focus on child development. Gone are those days when school age children found on the roadsides were apprehended and their parents questioned.

These days, government policies are not what they used to be, the efficiency of the Government is no longer felt in all sectors as it used to be the case in the past. Where good policies are formulated, lip service is paid to the implementation of such policies. The present Government is harping on an empowerment scheme for the youths; meanwhile children who will eventually become youths in the near future are neglected.

Such children could end up security risks in a time to come. Most people have already opined that it might not augur well for the society if those street children around Mokola are left unchecked and allowed to grow up together in that state. Some observers noted that already the children are building themselves up into a clan and if care is not taken, they might embrace a life of crime. The capital city of Oyo State is already feeling their impact as investigations have revealed that some of the older ones among them have grown and no longer stay on the roadside to beg. They have since gone into other forms of business including okada (commercial motorcycling), luggage carrying in markets and stealing.

Not a few people have been dispossessed of their belongings including bags, phones and money by motorcyclists in Ibadan. While some take advantage of the solitude and quietness of some areas to rob their passengers, some others simply snatch bags from their bikes and move on.

With time too, they could become willing tools in the hands of politicians and who knows, in these days of suicide bombings, they could easily be lured by perpetrators of terrorist activities.

That's the news from Oyo state

Are we talking of paper calculations or real life
What is the average quality of life of a kid in Ibadan compared to a kid in Owerri
Kano has over 6 million Almajiri kids and more than 70% of the population is uneducated
What is the GDP you tout?
Nigerian stats tell us the cash flow in Nigeria is from the eastern states and Lagos
Who eats GDP when people are hungry?
Ibadan is overrun by street kids
Why is the GDP not helping such that the governor is begging for two more Almajiri schools rather than the five it was allocated
Not a single Almajiri school in the SS or SE

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has concluded plans to extend the cashless policy to Rivers, Kano, Anambra and Abia States as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from July 1.

CBN Deputy Governor (Operations), Mr. Tunde Lemo, told THISDAY in an exclusive interview in Abuja that the aforementioned states and the FCT were chosen because of the large volume of cash transactions in some of their major cities such as Aba, Kano, Port Harcourt and Onitsha.

The cashless policy, whose implementation began in Lagos in January, last year, is aimed at reducing the dominance of cash in the system. The policy specifies penal charges for individuals and corporate organisations that want to withdraw or lodge cash above prescribed limits.

Under the policy, the CBN pegged the daily cumulative cash withdrawal or deposit limit for individual accounts at N500,000 per day and N3 million per day for corporate accounts.

Lemo, in the interview, explained that the policy earlier planned to be implemented in other states in January 2013 was deferred due to some infrastructural challenges.
He said: “When we talk about nationwide roll-out, we are also being careful to ensure that we make use of resources in a smart way. Cash doesn’t flow the same volume in every state of the federation. What we would do in July is to look at those other market clusters where large amount of volume is transacted and add them to Lagos.

“It is cheaper that way because the resources you need to cover the entire 923 square kilometres in Nigeria are huge. But you can achieve almost the same thing by looking at the pattern of cash distribution and you can cover about 90 per cent of that by adding about five more locations to Lagos. That is: Abuja, Kano, Aba, Port Harcourt and Onitsha.

“That is basically what we want to do. We would get those five clusters and add them to Lagos. When we add those five locations to Lagos, then we would have covered about 90 per cent of the cash volume. We would see how far that goes and once we perfect that, we then begin to look at contiguous market centres around these locations and we would gradually cover the entire country.”

Lemo also said the cashless policy had been successful in Lagos, adding that the number of Point of Sale (PoS) machines in Lagos has increased significantly from about 5,000 when the policy took off last year, to over 150,000.

Akala, Fashola on war path over dumping of destitutes
Written by Ola Ajayi
Friday, 10 April 2009

OYO State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala and Raji Fashola of Lagos are now at daggers drawn over the alleged dumping of about 120 destitutes by the Lagos State Government in Ibadan. Following his resolve to rid Lagos State of destitute that have become nuisance in major streets, Vanguard gathered that some of the destitutes who claimed they are from Oyo State were conveyed back to Ibadan yesterday.

It was further gathered that the destitutes had earlier been camped at Majidun, Ikorodu in the last six months. But due to congestion, the government, as reliably gathered, sorted out those who had been mentally deranged and taken responsibility for their rehabilitation while those who are still mentally balanced were said to have been taken back to their various states.

One of the destitute, Fehintola Oguntola who claimed to be an indigene of Ilesa, Osun State said she was seeing off her friend when some officials of the state government picked her up and took her to Majidun about seven months ago. Further investigation revealed that some of the destitutes were from Kwara and Osun States.

Some of them who spoke with Vanguard said they were given N200 before they took off from Lagos. They said they were abandoned at Molete on the wee hours of Thursday.

But Akala is already fuming with anger on the decision of the Lagos State Government, saying he would not accept it at this period he is trying to rid the ancient city of destitute. He said his government would not take it lightly with the Lagos State Government.

Akala said, through his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Prince Dotun Oyelade that “the information that eight buses filled with destitute were dumped in Ibadan today is absolutely unacceptable. The matter will be taken up at the highest level”.

“Oyo government is working hard to clean the environment and rid the city of destitute and any act of sabotage from Lagos or any neighbouring state will be highly resisted”, he vowed.

I'm not Obis biggest fan.
But this was a very poor job by the Lagos state government.

They have been exposed as people of very low intellect.
As a matter of fact the seem to have the IQ of "Umunama" grin grin

Sorry to say....but you are profoundly dim witted !

There is an Anambra liaison office here in Lagos that is headed by an SA to the governor with direct access...

As far as LASG is concerned....dealing with the liaison office is like dealing with Awka.....that is the way it happens among government....

Obviously your limited education is a factor in your lack of knowledge thereof ...

Go and seek knowledge
