Air Superiority really is what determines the outcome of a war, They destroyed 103 Tanks from the air, Most African countries have Tanks ranging that number, if the were to fight an adversary with superior air power, they would be sitting ducks right now waiting for land forces to invade and finish them off.

It also shows the value of Russian support to the Syrian government. Even if the Russians have failed to act against Turkey, the amount of hardware the Turks have destroyed, yet the Syrian regime still has made significant military offensives and gains is incredible.

Militaries in Sub-saharan Africa do not stand a chance against major world powers. We would get obliterated.

However employing a guerilla style attack is the only way to defend against major powers.

The lessons learned from Turkey having a local military industrial complex is a matter of survival not just a national pride thing.

80% of all the weapons used by Turkey in this operation is locally made by Turkey.

What about the widespread use of ATGMs in this conflict, how would African armies survive that with their fancy Carbines?

Tension between newly re-elected Jubaland state government and Somali's central Government seem to have escalated to a new level today, Reports coming in say SNA (Somali National Army) has launched an attack on Jubaland army positions near the Kenyan border town of Mandera.

Exactly what led to the collapse of Siad Barre, misadvised attacks on stable self-determined autonomous regions (effectively clans) as he did to Somaliland and Puntland. The two soon declared independence. The rest of Somalia will end up the same way, breaking into several small clan states Somaliland, Puntland, Jubaland, Baidoa, etc. As ever, the Soms never learn, particularly those in Mogadishu. I expect Jubaland will soon start vicious resistance to Mogadishu and declare full autonomy.

On the details of the operation, Akar said a drone, eight helicopters, 103 tanks, 19 armored personnel carriers, 72 cannons/howitzers/multiple rocket launchers, three air-defense systems, 15 anti-tanks/mortars, 56 armored vehicles, nine ammunition depots and 2,000 regime soldiers and elements have been neutralized so far.

Not new. In your pics the Turkana county CECM is flagging off last mile anti-locust spray (Utra Low Volume (ULV) sumithion insecticide). The county government bought the chemical and aircraft fuel while the national government (KDF) provided the Aircraft.

New KDF MD 530 F Cayuses

Personal favorites for close aerial counter terrorist support (no resource hemorrhaging)

The newer aircraft have a 'glass' cockpit (the older aircraft are likely to be upgraded to this same standard over time). They also have a ballistically tolerant crashworthy fuel system that features self-sealing fuel cells; crashworthy bladders compliant to MIL-DTL-27422 (the standard for crash- and ballistic-resistant fuel systems); gravity feed auxiliary fuel transfer; compatibility with the 38-gallon Little Bird Auxiliary Tank System (LBATS); accessibility for easy maintenance; and 'combat proven performance'.

All AAF MD 530Fs are fitted with the Enhanced Mission Equipment Package (EMEP). The baseline Mission Equipment Package (MEP) comprises the FN Herstal Heavy Machine Gun Pod (HMP) that features the company's M3 12.7 mm (.50 calibre) machine gun. The HMP, which is carried on external weapons planks, has a rate of fire of 1,100 rds/min and a 400-round ammunition box.

Best in the world when they don't even know what to use at the right situation . That environment is more suited for a desert fatigue.

Looks like a follow on of the Nora. A good platform operational here,Bangladesh and Myanmar. IIRC,there's a battery of 10 operational with another 2 batteries on order.

Stargate254:
I remember when KDF was going to Somalia, I was a little exited but I also wondered on twitter, about what happens if we succeed knowing very well that most Somali's have grievances with either Kenya or Ethiopia. Historically speaking, if Somalia is not at war with itself, they are at war with someone else....
Even Alshabaab who are enemies with Somali government, but what they are doing in Kenya's former NEP along the border is something that has been a dream of Somalia even during the Shifta war days. They are attacking school teachers, businessmen, medical workers and the one University found in that region.... and Killing the Christians.... All in the attempts to make sure the North Eastern part of Kenya remains poor economically but also that this part of the country doesn't become cosmopolitan. (If the region becomes cosmopolitan it would make it very difficult to unify the people in this region )

Ethiopia went to War with Somalia because of this, Somalia wedged a Gorilla warfare on Kenya because of this. And now Alshabaab is attempting to keep the area free of 'non-locals' (Logic would dictate its because of the same thing) i.e .... for one day to create the "Greater Somalia" as one united country.
But, you can't create a 'greater Somalia' if Kenyan-Somalis are happy, have schools, universities, good hospitals and are better off economically.. So what do you do in the mean time.... undermine any efforts by local governments and National governments to bringing any kind of progress in the region.

So it wouldn't be a wild exaggeration to Imagine once Somali stabilizes and is free of Alshabaab, Somali government would turn their attention back to this good old grievance and settle some old scores.....

I mean just a few days before this incident, Somalia's Ambassador to the UN went on a rant at the UN Security Council That we were encroaching on their border among other things, then a few days later they start fighting just a few meters from the Kenyan border... It seems to me that this was a well choreographed incident that they were hoping would give them the pretext to justify whatever they'll do next. Maybe they were hoping KDF across the border who were not part of AMISOM would have crossed the border and helped Jubaland army.. This would have given them all the ammunition for them to say, "see, we told you"

What Somali's ambasador to the UN said at the UNSC

Kenya has written a letter of protest to Somalia following what Somalia ambassador to the UN said

Somalis have problems WITH EVERYBODY! Even if they were surrounded by Swazis,Swiss and Solomon Islands those countries would have their forces on the ground. To understand them ,read thgs:
