I like the way you owned TeHN with you your constant use of 'we'. That is the way I want every Nairalander to own and view TeHN.

TeHN does does not belong to few people, it belongs to us all. The success of TeHN is the success of all and indeed the entire Nigerians. The world can see that despite our many differences we are still our brother's keeper.

As a moderator of Politics section and Ethnic section where I see a lot of ethnic rivalries daily, it gives me much joy and hope that when it comes to being our brother's keeper, even some hardened 'tribalist' among us throw away their ethnic garments and all rally in little and big ways to help our fellow Nigerians in need.

Truth is those of us in the management of TeHN can only function when you all rally around us; your contributions and supports motivate us to want to go to the end Nigeria to help a fellow Nigerian in need.

Let us keep being our brothers's keeper, there is so much we can do and achieve when we all come together.

Yeah! We should all be proud of ourselves and prouder of those few Nairalanders that take out their time to go carry out investigations on our behalf and even attend to these cases. They deserve all the praises..

I am truly proud to be associated with TEHN.. Knowing that my little change contributed to changing the life of someone, somewhere is the biggest satisfaction that I can get.. Knowing that someone out there has said a little prayer for me in their hearts is the only reward that I need to keep giving.

This Network would grow to be one of the Biggest and most Honest NGO in Nigeria.. All we need to do is keep doing what we are doing now and keep being Transparent so people dont feel like they are being scammed.

My 2 cents in kind:

We need to keep this lady in our prayers so that there are no complications from the surgery. This stuff is not moi- moi. I just had a goiter removed myself a few weeks ago and my voice and breathing were affected and I am still not recovered. I had this goiter for 15 years, if I had known then what I know now - I would have removed it immediately I got to oyinboland. I was fortunate that the complications were only voice related and that at least I can still breath without a tube. Mind you, my goiter was not as half as big as this woman's. Things to watch out for:

1. Calcium complications from a thyroid surgery can lead to the organs seizing including the heart even days after the surgery has been completed.

2. The lump must be sent for pathology testing to check whether its a benign lump or it is cancerous. If its is cancerous,she needs to under go further treatment. Fingers crossed it is benign.

3.. She will be placed on supplements to do what the Thyroid does in the body, without supplements to replace thyroid function, lethargy , depression and eventually death could occur.

Please someone that is on ground should discuss the risks of the surgery with her surgical team so that she is monitored like a hawk. Please make sure that the surgeon has done this procedure before many times. This goitre cannot be less than 20cm across so its a major surgery.
Also if she can be referred to an endocrinologist to help her stabilize the hormones for the first few months.

I don't mean to sound gloomy but I have found that people tend to trivalize goiters that its not a major issue...it can be.

Now I have said all these to indicate that we may need to contribute more than the initial surgery cost so the organizers of this rescue effort can bear this in mind.

I really wish her the best and I'll send my kobo kobo as soon as I know where to send it.

fsb: This is a laudable idea but my question is why can't she be taken to another hospital where the surgery can be done at a much cheaper rate? There are general hospitals that charge way less than what UCH is charging with excellent surgeons as well...

Good Update. Do keep us posted on the progress of this family. The loss of Folake still hurts really deep. Hope the Family is bouncing back from the tragedy.
