Five Sharia courts in Britain now have "official" powers to rule on Muslim civil cases, according to a report.

The rulings made by the five courts in London, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester and Nun-eaton in Warwickshire are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or high court, according to the Sunday Times. The issues that the "official" Sharia courts can rule on range from financial rows to divorce and domestic violence.

Two more Sharia courts will be started in Edinburgh and Glasgow soon, the report said.

Till now, the rulings of Sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims.

The Sharia courts are run by Muslim Arbitration Tribunal, which was set up in 2007 to provide a viable alternative for the Muslim community seeking to resolve disputes in accordance with Islamic law. UK Muslim lawyer Shaykh Faiz Siddiqi, is chairman of the governing council of the Muslim Arbitration Tribuna.

Shaykh Faiz Siddiqi, according to the report, had taken advantage of a clause in the Arbitration Act 1996 to give rulings of the sharia courts legal backing. Under the Arbitration Act 1996, the Sharia courts are classified as arbitration tribunals.

the UK's first shariah-compliant prepaid MasterCard has been launched. The Cordoba Gold MasterCard does not charge or receive interest as this is in direct conflict with shariah Law.

The company also donates at least 10% of its profits to registered charities in the UK and abroad.

A company spokesman said: "Because this is a prepaid card, the customer pays no interest on their balance. The difference with this card is that Cordoba Financial Group does not earn any interest on the balance either.

"Normally when someone puts money on a prepaid card the company that issues the card will earn interest on the balance until the person spends it.

"This is not the case with Cordoba, as you can neither earn nor pay interest under sharia law."

The Cordoba Gold card is available to UK residents aged 18 and over, and is being launched in London.

The UK's Muslim population totals about two million and fully sharia-compliant banks have more than 30,000 customers across the UK.

Ahmed Suleiman, chief executive officer of Cordoba Financial Group, said: "Consumers are tired of hidden charges, and unclear small print and this card is an attractive alternative providing a convenient and safe payment method that is ideal for everyone.

"This card is the first shariah product that has been specifically developed to address the real needs of millions of Muslims in Britain, rather than wholesale Islamic funds geared
