ifenadi: We all know their old trick where they will not reset the meter to start from zero when they want to sell petrol to you. Their new method is what baffled me and this is rampant in Asaba area.

The first time it happened to me, I thought it was actually a mistake as claimed by the attendant until It repeated several times. I visited a filling station in Asaba(name withheld) and there were two persons serving at the pump. The first person asked me, "how much do you want to buy" and I hold her 5 thousand naira. The 2nd guy proceeded to fill my tank resetting the meter to zero and not bothering to confirm the price I want to buy from the lady or me.To my surprise this guy stopped at 1000 naira and when I asked him why he stopped he said he thought I said I wanted to buy 1000 naira( I wondered where he got that message from cus he did not ask me or the lady whom I told I want to buy 5000k).

He then pressed some buttons at the meter as if he wanted to reset the meter to zero, meanwhile the thing still reads 1000 naira before he proceeded(if you do not look well you not see the 1 in front of the zeros). Again at 4000 naira He stopped . I now shouted , bros I told you I wanted to buy 5000 naira. He said that if I add the 4k to 1k he gave me initially that it will be 5k. I was confused but when I insisted that he didn't reset the meter. He quietly completed the remaining 1k. This happened again in the same filling station and that was when I realized it was their game.
decided to change filling station and to my greatest surprise they use the same trick in Asaba and so many people are falling victims especially those that do not like to come down from their car while buying fuel.

I think they salary has contributed to cheating customers. No pump attendant collect up to N12,000 monthly, most of them even total, oando, and other big oil marketers pay their pump attendant nothing more than N8,000,so tell me how wont they cheat customers, and they are all casual staffs.

Tch, its not today that I found out that most of them are cheats. In Jos, I went to a filling station (name withheld) to buy fuel of N3000. The attendant reset the engine and put only N2990. Because I was in a hurry I didn't say anything. The next day, I was in a queue at the same station and another attendant cheated someone: he wanted to buy N500 but when the attndant saw the man with N1000 he typed 1000 and told the guy "yay! I make mistake o! I go dey put 1000, sorry abeg no vex". The man had no other option than to pay. The attndnt the stopped it at 990. All the while, I watched silently. My turn and the guy repeated the same thing he did to the previous guy to me. I was like, what the hell! After about a week or so, this same thing that happened to you also happened to me. Now I'm pretty sure that most filling stations are assuming a new dimension. Let's watch it with these guys.

MOBIL carries the day. There is a mobil filling station at Challenge Bus Stop, opposite Vono foam, Mushin Lagos. Damn the attendants are bloody experts in criminality. I know one of the attendants that was sacked because he didn't erase the one sold before someone else went there. It happened to me twice on this filling station and I swore not to buy there again.

Another one is REM DABSON filling station. The station is along Lucky fibre and Hypo road before you get to Adamo. I will never buy there again.

Two years or 2 & half yrs ago i fell for the same trick. I use a Honda baby boy. My tank capacity is 70 liters maximum. i went to a station in Port harcourt Trans Amadi close to Mothercat, asked the attendant to fill up to about 5000 naira, cos i was really low on fuel coming back from church on Sunday. drove off only for me to realize that i have been outplayed, because my meter on my guage was just touching the middle mark. i thought maybe it will rise but to my amazement, i got to slaughter and it still remained same thing.
I went back to the station and went straight to the station manager, a lady at that time, only for her to bring out nonsense from her mouth that why didn't I check what they are selling before i go. I was mad with that statement! Where is integrity and customer satisfaction in business!
She now told the attendant to put, i think 500-700 naira, fuel into my tank and she asked me not to pay.
That was the last day i patronized that station up to date. Even if that is the only station selling fuel in Phc, i will prefer to buy from black market.

Get rich or die trying some say; most of us including myself yapping here do worse in our various offices. We have to look at the big picture and stop celebrating mediocrity and wealth. What happened to hard work, dignity in labor?

Anyway first of all a large percentage of the petrol stations in Nigeria under-dispense fuel so if you like gaze at the pump machine, the owner has already cheated you so its the small boys that you will prevent from doing same.

Nobody mentioned the one of the meter reading on the reverse side and they will ask you to go and check yet when you check as they enter it, abracadabra will still happen.

andyanders: Mine was in Lagos. I truly saw that what the meter had was 400 naira, and the lady started pumping from the 400 naira not knowing that I was watching her, when I saw that she was above 1,200 I now asked her why she did not clear her meter b4 she started and she said she cleared it. I asked her to stop. She stopped. I now locked my fuel tank, entered my car and she was like Sir, you have not paid, I told her that if she repeat the statement that I will eat her raw and fu0ck her without using Vaseline on her. She saw my eyes and never answered me back. I went away with the fuel she already pumped.

oh! is that only u know? look, in addition to that, whnever u wnt to buy fuel, just come down from ur car and whn they ar pickin the noozle alway make sure it wipped cos they do hang the noozle in such a way that whn they pick it it will not wipe the previous sales and as such continue from there. more also, take note of liters and the naira cos they can as well tell u the litres sold in place of naira. and a pump wit two noozle serving the same time could be use by pump attendant to exploit u.so, wise up!!

obongtunji: I had similar experience 3 times, but turst me i didn't fall for any, let me tell you how the last one happened in Abuja. I came out of the car as soon as I stopped my car, the attendant asked me "Oga how much fuel" I told him full tank, after resetting the pump he was actually pumping the fuel but gently because he didn't press the nozzle very well, so it was dispensing very slowly, I knew he was up to something before you know it another woman came to ask if I wanted injector cleaner and I told her no but she engaged me in irrelevant stories, after the guy dispensed #100, he removed the nozzle and placed it back to the pump claiming they changed the power source from generator to phcn, I saw it clearly that it was #100. After resetting the pump he later dispensed #4000 fuel he now said including the first one which was #1000, that was where I started shouting on him and told him I was aware of all his tricks, he couldn't say a word, his colleague in crime started begging me to pay what I said he dispensed, but I made sure I talked sense into their heads. Please guys you should watch out when you want to buy fuel........lop

One Total station attendant tried this on me recently. I was sure i saw N100 and the guy claimed it was N1000 after he reset it claiming he changed power source and had started pumping the difference which will now be 3k since i requested for 4k fuel. I asked if power was cut off from his colleague at another pump, he said he just returned and he in turn asked the guy close to him who said yes that power was cut off momentarily. From their eyes, I knew they were lying so I said, well if I confirm power was actually cut off, I will pay the whole 4k I requested. so I sent the guy with me to go inside the mini shop to confirm, and they said that at no time was power terminated. At that point, I grew angry and all of them were pleading. I had to draw from within not to engage the guy physically. I gave him what he had dispensed and drove off to refuel at another place.
Sometimes, they might just engage you in a conversation and pump you fuel without wiping off the last figure or point to your tire that it needs more air, and carry our their trick. they used this on my wife once at one mini NNPC station.

What the op pointed out has happened to me before at NNPC mega station Ado Ekiti, but that day I allowed it to go as I was not feeling fine, not a day I was willing to get real mad and dirty. Some weeks later, it happened to my dad at same station and it caused a little argument but the guy quickly rectified the mistake. It also happened to me at MRS filling station, Opopogboro, beside Dave hotel, Ado Ekiti. I raked for the guy, called him a thief and asss hole, before he sold me the rest of my fuel.

These days most of the gas stations' attendants are indeed females - young, attractive ones.

Its very common to see them in thier cleavage exposing, thighs/a$s hugging attires especially in independent marketer-owned stations.

They will come smiling seductively asking "how much", hoping their bulging derriere will distract you from seeing the metre hasn't been reset, and then when through filing the tank will purr, "do u need the change?" Useless things.

Asaba is the home of crime. Most criminalities in Onitsha and environ toots from Asaba. In Dec when my sister in law was kidnapped in anambra they took her to asaba.
when 419ners attacked my friend in Onitsha they took him to asaba.
not just petrol station, whoever finds himself in asaba be better at alert.

eddiebruk: This is actually true, it happened to me in Warri some early March, i stopped at a filling station just to get petrol of 1500 that will enable me get to NNPC filling station so that i can get my tank filled at a considerable rate and the guy went ahead, ran the machine as if he was putting some petrol in my tank just because i was looking away i didn't notice, unknown to him that my meter was already on reserve, after driving for about 3mins my petrol meter still didn't rise, i had to revise back to the service station, by this time i didn't know my friend who was with me was already furious about the whole thing, but he didn't say a word until we got there, on reaching there i asked the guy that how much petrol did he put in my tank, and he said 500, i was shocked, before i could say another word, my friend has given this guy a very hot slap that threw him to the ground, it was the intervention of the Manager that rescued this guy that day, we had to demand for our money back and they gladly gave it back.

Oh boy easy o. What if the guy delete? I know hw e dey be. Warri nor dey carry last. Area! Seriously, those guys are really desperate. I have also being a victim, it was another customer that told me that I have been cheated, I immediately reversed back and they topped the tank with their supposedly loot. Ever since then, I have been so meticulous with them and always take a keen look at the pump and never distracted.
