The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, has urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the killings in Plateau State are quickly apprehended. Saraki said apprehending the perpetrators would help bring an end to the killings in the State. Speaking in Jos, the state capital, on Wednesday, the Senate President said, “We must also ensure that all those who are responsible for these killings must account for it. It is part of providing succour and ensuring the peace. You cannot bring back the lives, but finding and prosecuting the perpetrators will go a long way in helping to calm people and ease the pain that they are going through. “Therefore, yet again, we call on our security agents to ensure that they find the perpetrators that have done this and make them account for their detestable actions. “Let me use this opportunity to appeal to everyone, to the entire people of Plateau State: Nobody wins from this. Nobody. These killings from today set the clock back many years, therefore, I want to appeal to the entire people of Plateau State, the elderly, the young, the men and the women, to ensure that we work towards peace.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/plateau-killings-saraki-tells-security.html

Former Governor of Ekiti State and the All Progressives Congress(APC) governorship candidate for the July 14 election, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has accused some top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) of conniving with Governor Ayodele Fayose to rig the coming election. The former Minister accused three top INEC functionaries from Abuja of holding a secret meeting with governor Fayose in the government house some days back under the guise of being in the state for official duty. Fayemi urged the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Lawan Daura to investigate the allegation and bring the culprit to book. But INEC Public Relations Officer in Ekiti, Taiwo Gbadegesin, said the electoral body didn’t receive any official from Abuja, saying none of their officers visited the governor on any scheduled or emergency invitation. Gbadegesin assured the people that INEC would conduct free, fair and credible election in Ekiti, saying the technology that had been put in place will make rigging difficult and unachievable. Briefing newsmen in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, the Deputy Director General(Ekiti South), Kayode Fayemi’s campaign Council, Hon. Bamidele Faparusi , pointedly accused these three electoral officials named: Egharevba John, Festus Aisien, Igidiogu Kelechi and one Ishaku Abbo, a former INEC staff of conspiring to vitiate and compromise the process. . Fayemi said one Ishaku from the Northern extraction of the country, whom he alleged of brokering the deal on Fayose’s behalf , had allegedly been living in the government house in Ekiti in the last six months. He said: “We have it on good authority that an election expert, one Ishaku, a former INEC official, has been living with the governor in the Government House since January this year. “After these illegal activities in the Government House, there was a secret meeting held with three top officials of INEC from the national headquarters in the Government House. “Curiously, these three top officials hold strategic positions in election management. One is from the Admin, one is from Stores and Distribution Dept while the other is ICT top official. “For the reasons best known to them, only the Government House was their exclusive port of call; APC was never in the picture. “After this evil agenda, Fayose stormed the media to raise allegations the APC was in Ondo State Government House to manipulate the ballot to give APC an edge in the July 14 election”. Faparusi alleged that findings revealed that sensitive INEC documents have been illegally produced in the Government House with the help of some ‘unscrupulous’ INEC officials. “Documents already produced include stamps, PVCs, result sheets (Form EC 8A) and INEC accreditation forms. We are calling on INEC headquarters to note these atrocities being perpetrated by its corrupt officials to tarnish the image of the electoral body. “You will recall Fayose’s illegal activities in the 2014 election as contained in Captain Koli tape. We don’t want a repeat of that experience”, he concluded. Debunking the allegations further, Gbadegesin said: “There is no form called accreditation form in the first place. accreditation will be done with smart card readers and the four staff mentioned are our staff but they have not visited Ekiti for any reason. “Let me also tell the public that form EC8A is with the CBN and it will be deployed to Ekiti with ballot papers. They are coded with serial numbers and can’t be duplicated by anybody. “As part of our openness, we sent the voter registers to all the political parties. Our doors are open to all political parties, so APC is free to come here and make verifications, rather than making unsubstantiated allegations. “Our politicians should know that some of the INEC staff here are strangers, they should not make Ekiti look too peculiar and difficult terrain to work. “But we want to say that this election will be credible. 2015 elections were superb and I want to assure that this election will be better”, Gbadegesin assured. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/ekiti-guber-fayemi-accuses-fayose-of.html

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of stealing its slogan, ‘Progress’. The SDP noted that all political parties were mandated to make their slogan known to the Independent National Electoral Commission at the point of registration. The National Secretary of the SDP, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, made the allegation during a press conference in Abuja on Monday. He called on the ruling party to stop trying to confuse the electorate ahead of the 2019 general elections. Gabam said, “We kindly wish to bring to your attention the illegal adoption of our slogan of ‘progress’ in response to the chant of ‘APC’ at their recent convention in Abuja on June 22and June 23, 2019, at the Eagle Square. “You may please refer to our records which show clearly that our constitution of 2010 amended in 2012 and registered with INEC prior to the advent of the APC contains our slogan in Article 5. “Also , in our recent NEC meeting of May 30, 2018, in which INEC was in attendance, it (INEC) upheld our slogan in Article 5 ( 5. 1 ) of 2018 amended SDP constitution. It is, therefore, unacceptable that the APC is allowed to adopt our slogan with a long history of registration with INEC.” It further requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, do not to approve the adoption of its slogan by the APC in the interest of peace, justice and fairness and in order not to confuse the electorate. He said the SDP had reported the APC to the electoral body so that the issue would be clarified. “We have written to INEC to draw their attention to that. “Whether it was intentional or a mistake, we feel that this thing should be documented officially for record purposes so that we will not be accused of not raising the issue. “A riding horse , which is the SDP logo , symbolises progress. A broom does not symbolise progress,” he added. Gabam also advised the ruling party to stop exploiting the June 12 , 1993 saga for personal gain. He noted that it was on the platform of the SDP that the late Chief MKO Abiola rode to victory. The SDP scribe added, “They are also trying to exploit the sympathy ( evoked ) by June 12 where our hero, the late MKO Abiola, was honoured along with other personalities. They are trying to use the sentiment and the political sympathy to the advantage of the APC.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/2019-apc-stealing-our-progress-slogan.html

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas workers, NUPENG, weekend, decried allegation by the Presidency that the National Assembly cut N11.5 billion from allocations to critical infrastructure like roads in the 2018 national budget. NUPENG in a statement in Abuja, insisted that cutting allocations meant for crucial and very critical infrastructural projects with huge socio-economic impacts on national and regional roads like the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, second Niger Bridge, ancillary roads, East-West road, Bonny-Bodo road and others, to say the least, was unreasonable and insensitive to the yearning of the people. In the statement by its President, Prince Williams Akporeha, NUPENG threatened that it might be forced to mobilise against members of the National Assembly if nothing was done to remedy the situation to make the nation’s highways motorable. The statement read in part: “We are still in shock that these critical trunk roads, which play significant roles, particularly in the value chain of the oil and gas downstream sector and other critical and crucial economic activities in the country would be expunged from the national budget at a time the union is craving for state of emergency on Nigerian roads. “NUPENG strongly believes that the constitutional direction of a national budget must be patriotically designed to consolidate the achievements of previous budgets to deliver on Nigeria’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan as envisaged by the current government, which is in the same line of logical, reasonable and responsible thought process that we expect from our federal lawmakers. “However, the union cannot afford to fold its hands whilst our hardworking and patriotic members’ lives are being carelessly and pitiably wasted on the highways as well as facing unimaginable hazards on the roads, particularly the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG, whose main professional calling to the service of our nation is the lifting and distribution of petroleum products across the length and breadth of the nation in order to energize social and economic activities of all Nigerians. “We hate to always raise concerns over road accidents involving our members as a result of deplorable conditions of nation’s road networks. It is also an open secret that the current nature of our roads is a real contributory factor to tanker accidents which we are experiencing virtually on daily basis; unfortunately the 2018 Appropriation Act which we thought could save us from this life threatening menace has again dashed our hope. “NUPENG is using this medium to call on all relevant stakeholders in government especially the Legislature and the Executive to urgently reconsider all the aforementioned road infrastructure projects as well as other critical areas affecting the oil and gas sector that were flippantly jettisoned from the budget in the interest of all Nigerians and also for the entrenchment and sustenance of industrial growth and development.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/wow-fuel-crisis-looms-as-nupeng.html

All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives aspirant, Aderemi Banjo, on Sunday deplored the leadership style of House Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila. Banjo, who fielded questions from newsmen in Lagos, claimed that for 15 years, the member representing Surulere Constituency 01 in the House of Representatives has failed to deliver democracy dividends to the people. He said: “The grim picture is reversible. APC stands for change. Enough is enough. Surulere constituency 0I deserves better representation and by the grace of God, the electorate will change Femi Gbajabiamila in 2019”. He chastised Gbajabiamila for his alleged insensitivity to the needs of the people and fire brigade approach during elections. “Constituency fractionalization, Tuke-Tuke and Okada that the Lagos State government is trying to outlaw seem to be the only legacies which Gbajabiamila is capable of bequeathing to the wonderful people of Surulere,” he said. The former national chairman of Mega Progressive Party (MPP) urged the constituents to reject the 5th term agenda of Gbajabiamila. “I have a better grasp of the issues at hand. I am very familiar with the peculiar problems facing the constituency. I covered a lot of grounds during my campaigns. “That exercise gave me a deep insight into the problems facing the people in this constituency – their problems, their needs and since then, my mind has always been agitated as to how to find solutions to these problems. I am only seeking an opportunity to serve. However, Banjo hailed the emergence of Adams Oshiomhole as APC national chairman and urged him to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and engineer them back for effective participation. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/gbajabiamila-donates-keke-okada-lagos.html

Presidential aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, said the Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) government would be remembered for poverty and nepotism. The former minister said this at an interaction with State Chairmen of the PDP in Abuja on Saturday. “What is the legacy of APC other than entrenching despotism, nepotism, intimidation, harassment of opposition, insecurity and inflicting poverty on the people?” he asked. Lamenting that the APC has failed to resolve the Boko Haram crisis, Turaki said the federal government abandoned the “standard practice” which the PDP government under President Goodluck Jonathan adopted. Promising to uphold the Rule of Law, Turaki vowed that he would order implementation of all pending court orders if he became president. Noting that social welfare programmes such as YouWin, SURE-P and similar empowerment schemes established by the PDP had been wiped off by the APC government, the aspirant said employment generation will be high on his agenda. He recalled the legacy of the PDP in ensuring an uninterrupted 21 years of democracy, “including the seamless transition to an opposition party which President Jonathan facilitated”. Speaking, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and former Chief of Army Staff, General Ishaya Bamaiyi, counseled members of the party to be brave and be focused “to overcome the intimidation and harassment by APC”. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/apc-will-be-remembered-for-poverty.html

Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has denied ever writing any petition to the Department of Security Service DSS, which led to the arrest of his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam. There were reports in some quarters that Ortom had written the security agency, fingering his kinsman over the killings in the state. Ortom, while reacting through his spokesman, Terver Akase, said the report linking him to Suswam’s ordeal was totally false and should be discarded. The governor insisted that he had no reason whatsoever to petition the DSS. He said, “We wish to categorically state that Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom did not write a petition which led to the arrest of former Governor of the State, Gabriel Suswam, contrary to some media reports. “Such reports are false, misleading and mischievous. “The Benue State Government has written a petition against leaders of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore and has filed a lawsuit against the group. The State Government has evidence to prove that the socio-cultural organisation is responsible for recent attacks and killing of innocent people in the state. “Those peddling the allegation that Governor Ortom is behind the arrest of his predecessor are doing so to cause disaffection and create a state of confusion. “The Ortom administration will not be distracted from its commitment to get justice for victims of mindless attacks on the state. “We urge Benue people and other Nigerians to disregard the reports.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/benue-killings-ortom-speaks-on.html

As the 2019 general elections approaches, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, has charged judges not to be willing instruments in the hands of desperate politicians to achieve their personal and selfish interests. CJN urged judges to be firm and courageous in the discharge of their constitutional obligations. Onnoghen issued the warning yesterday while administering the oath of office on12 new justices of the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The CJN further admonished the new judges to adhere strictly to the constitution and abide by their oath of office, the code of conduct for judicial officers, as well as, judicial precedents in dealing with cases before them. He said as judicial officers, they should use the law as it should be used to decide matters that are brought before them, adding that in any matter one party must win while the other looses. The CJN said that when judges do the right things at the right time, they “will sleep and snore and will not care whose ox is gored because judiciary and the law will be there to protect them” In the same vein, Onnoghen said judges will be sleepless when they cut corners, adding that, they must be courageous and fearless in the discharge of their duties. The CJN noted that with the inauguration of the justices, the court of Appeal has been enriched with more hands, who have been found worthy and so honoured. He however, charged them to be more hardworking because of the workload of the court. On the issue of financial autonomy for state judiciary, the CJN remarked that the constitution had already granted that under section 121(3), but that the political will to enforce it has been lacking, noting that, “financial autonomy for the judiciary has been there what has been lacking is the political courage and will to enforce the constitution by past administration “. The 12 new justices of the Court of Appeal are: Patricia A. Mahmud, Folasade O. Ojo, Ibrahim A. Andenyangsto, Gabriel O. Kolawole, Bariki B. Aliyu and James G Abundaga. Others are Ebiowei Tobi, Abubakar S. Umar, Abubakar M. Talba, Abdullahi M. Bayero, Abubakar M. Lamido and Mohammed B. The Presidency on Thursday responded to a statement credited to Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West, lambasting President Muhammadu Buhari over the 2018 budget controversy. DAILY POST reports that Melaye had urged President Buhari to stop playing to the gallery over the 2018 budget. The lawmaker was quoted saying, “I noticed that PMB is trying to whip up sentiments against the National Assembly again by alleging that the 2018 budget was padded. “What the President is authorised to do constitutionally is to present the National Assembly with a bill. A bill is a work in progress and not the finished work. “The National Assembly is not just expected to rubber stamp whatever bill the President presents. If this was the norm then there would have been no need for the Constitution to direct that the Bill be submitted to the N/A in the first place.” Reacting, Buhari’s aide, Lauretta Onochie on her Twitter page said Dino Melaye should not tarnish the image of the NASS further. “A National Assembly with Sen Melaye who is standing trial for criminal offences and who commutes between a Court and the House of Senate, does not need more help to further smear it,” Onochie tweeted. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/2018-budget-presidency-hits-dino-melaye.html

52-year old pop icon Janet Jackson is the latest cover star for Essence magazine. The mom of one opened up on her career, struggle with depression amongst other things. Read excerpts from the interview; On struggling with depression: I struggled with depression. The struggle was intense. Low self-esteem might be rooted in childhood feelings of inferiority. It could relate to failing to meet impossibly high standards. And of course there are always the societal issues of racism and sexism. Put it all together and depression is a tenacious and scary condition. Thankfully, I found my way through it. On happiness: When it comes to happiness, I’m no expert. I have only my life experience as a guide. I’ve known great happiness and great sadness. But I guess the key question is, What do I really know about happiness? In my forties: Like millions of women in the world, I still heard voices inside my head berating me, voices questioning my value. Happiness was elusive. A reunion with old friends might make me happy. A call from a colleague might make me happy. But because sometimes I saw my failed relationships as my fault, I easily fell into despair. On her one-year-old son Eissa: The height of happiness is holding my baby son in my arms and hearing him coo, or when I look into his smiling eyes and watch him respond to my tenderness. When I kiss him. When I sing him softly to sleep. During those sacred times, happiness is everywhere. On #MeToo: We are living at a time in history when women all over the world are refusing to be controlled, manipulated, exploited or abused. We have found our strength, and we will not relent. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/janet-jackson-reveals-her-struggle-with.html

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has explained his new look in the World Cup Group B second match against Morocco on Wednesday. The 33-year-old netted a stunning hat-trick in their opening game to draw 3-3 with Spain before scoring the only goal in a narrow win over Morocco. Fans have been quick to speculate on his facial hair with the forward spotting a goatee. Many think that he is referring to himself as ‘the GOAT’ (greatest player of all time) due to the fact he normally takes to the field clean shaven.) After scoring against Spain, he even celebrated by stroking his beard and that led to speculation he could have been taunting his rival Lionel Messi. But the player has cleared everything up – revealing it was all a joke with team-mate Ricardo Quaresma. “This goatee? It’s a joke I had with [Ricardo] Quaresma,” Ronaldo told Sports Illustrated. “We were in the sauna [before Friday’s match against Spain] and I started to shave and I left the goatee – I said if I score tomorrow I would leave it for the rest of the tournament. “And it gave me luck, I scored that game, I scored this one, so it stays.” http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/world-cup-2018-ronaldo-finally-explains.html

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has beefed up security and surveillance at the major airports in the country following recent reports of terrorists sneaking into Nigeria from Syria. The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Lagos on Tuesday said the move was aimed at forestalling any attack at the airports. DAILY POST reports that Leaders of ISIS were sneaking battle-hardened jihadis from Syria into Nigeria to train terrorists for possible attacks in Britain. She stated that special attention was being given to Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Enugu and Port Harcourt Airports which services international passengers and were gateways into the country via air. Yakubu pointed out that FAAN Aviation Security, AVSEC, is working with other sister security agencies to maintain surveillance on the perimeter fence, the cargo area, the runway and other restricted areas. She said: “We have sent alert to all our aviation security at the airports to ensure that they improved on security, especially screening of passengers to make sure unauthorised persons don’t gain access into our terminals. “The airside patrol is being done through the military joint force and AVSEC. They do it round the clock. There are vehicles that are parked on the airside and they escort arriving and departing passengers.’ “Our Closed Circuit Television cameras in the terminals and the airside are all functional. “The Anti-Bomb Squad are deployed behind the screening machines at the terminal alongside the AVSEC and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency . The World Health Organisation (WHO) has, for the first time, tagged compulsive video gaming as a mental health condition in its updated classification manual released on Monday. The UN health agency said video game addiction should now officially read ‘gaming disorder’. “For gaming disorder to be diagnosed, the behaviour pattern must be of sufficient severity to result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning,’’ WHO said. It added that such behavioural pattern would normally have been evident for at least 12 months. The formal designation of “gaming disorder” within WHO’s International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) was welcomed by some groups as helpful to sufferers. Others, however, saw the official designation as causing needless concern among parents. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/who-tags-video-game-addiction-mental.html

Vice-Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, Sen. Abubakar Girei, has advised Senate President, Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara not to leave the All Progressives Congress, APC. The party chieftain said the duo will be “worse off” if they defect to another party. “Some of us, who are making necessary efforts to ensure that nobody leaves the party in annoyance, will sustain our efforts”, Girei told Punch. “Our major focus now is to ensure that members of the new Peoples Democratic Party, who were part of the alliance that formed the APC, who actually contributed immensely to the success of the APC, do not leave. “I am a proud member of the new PDP group, but I can tell you I am not contemplating leaving the APC for any other party because of these challenges. “I do not also think that the Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; governors or members of the National Assembly, whose names are being peddled as nPDP members, will defect from the APC to another party. “They are major political players and stakeholders in the politics of this country. Their interest can best be protected within the APC, they know it. “We have been talking to them; we have been appealing to them; telling them it (exit) is not the best way to handle this issue. We would not allow them to leave because if they, they will be worse off. “Where will they go? Is it the PDP, another new party or a third force? Third force is the creation of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and you know who Obasanjo is. “As far back as 2001, I was in the Senate, I was quoted copiously, in one of the magazines where I said Obasanjo was the greatest threat to our democracy and our nationhood. I have been vindicated several times by his actions. “What he’s doings is just for his personal and selfish interest. He would never see anything good in another person. Governor Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers State has disclosed that plans are underway to reposition the annual calabar festival and transform it into a veritable platform for African discourse. The governor who discribed the carnival as Africa’s biggest street party stressed that he has a burning desire to see Africans speak in one voice. Ayade was speaking during the unveiling of the theme for the 2018 edition of the Carnival Calabar which included a short video presentation on illegal mining exploitation across Africa by a few rich foreign aristocrats held at the State Executive Chamber, Calabar. He expressed optimism that this year’s edition of the tourism event will go a long way in righting the wrongs done to Africans by foreigners, especially colonial overlords, by portraying the continent and its people as the true owners of the real wealth in the world. Ayade: “Because Nigeria’s foreign policy is Afrocentric, the unification of Africa has become critical, let the carnival speak to power, speak to Africans that the African Union must rise and defend Africa.” The governor who said he was elated by the theme of this year’s carnival, “Africanism” , further remarked that ” time has come when Africa must start thinking as a country and provide a shoulder for weaker African countries to lean on.” The Cross River state Chief Executive said he made a choice of using the carnival as a platform to tell the African story as well as remind the world that civilization started in Africa and that Africans are the greatest semblance of God. The governor further disclosed that he intends to bring intellectualism as a more rewarding adventure to the Calabar carnival and indeed African heritage to represent every sector of African structure in the global space. Ayade charged the band leaders of the 2018 carnival to make Africa proud by talking big about the continent as according to him, “Africa has grown and will war no more”, adding “make the streets gliter with things and colours that truly represent Africa as only this will show we have come of age.” Ayade said he was of the view that youthfulness and vitality of Africa must be expressed in their dance, story precession and sub- themes as these will bring about the reverse of immigration to assure young men and women that Africa has realised itself and on the part of restitution and enhanced growth. “Let the carnival tell the reverse hypothesis of these stories and create a new cortosis that create a direction and focus that accentuates and celebrates the African man and let’s use this year’s platform to tell the true story that the real wealth lies in Africa and that Africa is indeed the leader”, Ayade stressed. Speaking at the event, Chairman of Cross River state Tourism Commission, Gabe Onah said the calabar carnival remains the main factor that has changed the narrative about Cross River and put the state and Nigeria on a global map. Onah praised Ayade for introducing international carnival, Baikers’ parade, Miss Africa Beauty Pageant among other innovations into the Calabar carnival thereby taking the yearly event to unprecedented height. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/ayade-plans-big-for-2018-carnival.html

Are you a Witch, you can upgrade your level with a University Degree. The University of Zambia has received US$340,000 to develop a Degree Programme to train students in witchcraft from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Named Intangible Cultural Heritage, the degree programme will be commencing lectures with a total of 20 students. According to news reports, the Zambia National Commission for UNESCO revealed that the Intangible Heritage will include practices such as Witchcraft, Social Practices such as expression through music, Knowledge, skills as well as the instruments, objects, artefacts and rituals. In November last year, Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo announced that Zambia should consider research and the study of witchcraft as a science that can be used productively for the benefit of the country. Professor Luo said Zambian scientists can learn from the South African counterparts who have commenced studies in witchcraft in some universities. “I could not help but think of witchcraft when I saw a mobile phone put into a box and it turned into a lady’s pant!” she said during the commemoration of the World Science Day for Peace and Development dubbed: ‘Recreating interest in science, technology and innovation’. But then Government Spokesperson Kampamba Mulenga said Government was disappointed with media reports suggesting that it will consider research on witchcraft as a science that can be used productively for the benefit of the country. Ms. Mulenga said the allegations are blatant falsehoods coming from people who have nothing good to offer to the nation. She said government is aware that there is a group of people that is spreading malicious statements through various media platforms, bent on destroying government’s image. She added that contrary to the allegations, President Lungu’s administration has and will always uphold Zambia’s status as a Christian nation as enshrined in the preamble of the constitution. Ms. Mulenga said it is common knowledge that Christianity and witchcraft are poles apart and cannot co-exist. But in December last year, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage which falls under UNESCO approved two International Assistance requests at the intergovernmental Committee for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Jeju Province, Republic of Korea. In a statement that was issued by the Zambian Embassy in Paris, France, Uganda was granted US$ 232, 000 and the Committee selected two projects in Bulgaria and Uzbekistan for the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices, which allows communities to share successful safeguarding programmes and activities. Zambia’s project aims to strengthen the capacity for the safeguarding and management of intangible cultural heritage. This project intended to develop and implement a degree programme in intangible cultural heritage at the University of Zambia. Zambia was represented by the Country’s expert to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, Mr. Munukayumbwa Munyima at the intergovernmental Committee for the ICHin Jeju Province. http://www.mcebisco.com.ng/2018/06/20-students-to-be-trained-in-witchcraft.html
