My grandmum who was simply called mama,set to work immediately.Within few minutes 'Abacha'(tapioca or african salad) was ready,I so much loved taking tapioca and smoked fish,and the aroma from it wasn't helping matters.The sleeping worms in my tummy all woke up to herald the arrival of the delicacy because it wasn't everytime they come across 'abacha'.

It took me great strongwill and fear of my mum not to jump on the food without being asked to.After all the unnecessary waste of time my mum asked us to start eating.I burst into tears when I saw that I was to share with Vitalis.I was crying more for the fact that Vitalis doesn't chew any food he likes before swallowing,coupled with the fact that the food won't even be enough for just him,talk more of when its shared.

Mama gave me her own 'Abacha' saying she would prepare her own.While we were eating,Papa came back from the meeting,after exchanging greetings with us,he went to the next compound and bought palmwine.(Original 'nkwu enu').There is no better drink for washing down'Abacha' than 'nkwu enu'.I was asked to sip just a little because the palmwine wasn't diluted,I agreed saying to myself'let me get the cup in my mouth 1st,then we'll know the amount I'l drink.

The mistake my grandpa made was to fill a cup with palmwine and handing it over to me to sip and pass to my brothers.I collected the filled cup,then placed it firmly on my lips and set to finish the whole content.Vitalis who saw what was happening made to collect the cup from me,but it was like my hands and lips were glued to the cup.

Not minding the beatings I was getting,I held on firmly to the cup like my whole life depended on it.When I had licked the last drop,I gently brought the cup down with a glint in my eyes.I scanned the different pairs of eyes staring at me,only 1 pair wasn't burning with rage,my grandpa's.Smiling I handed the cup to him,he patted my head lovingly 'O nne m ka I bu'(you are my mother.

He went ahead to tell my siblings that they should forgive me,saying I was a replica of his mother.While the drink was still shared,I drifted into a dreamless sleep.

I woke up the next morning with a splitting headache.

Yawns....

It was like I was in dreamland,Vitalis was sleeping soundly beside me.I started wondering when Vitalis started sharing my bed.Then it slowly dawned on me,I wasn't at home,we were in the village.I even forgot how we got to the village.

I knelt down by the bed,said the 'Jesus I love you',three times.Went into the bathroom,no toothbrush or paste,I washed my face grateful that atleast the work of brushing have been eliminated.

On stepping outside I had a clearer view of the compound.It was interlocked,and large,far more larger than ours,there were three other houses,2 bungalows and a storey building.

I started strolling,I wanted to be accustomed to the environment and also be the 1st to see the whole compound before my siblings woke up.A section of the compound was a mini zoo.

There were three dogs-two German shepherds,and one multi whatever its called,or simply put 1 bingo,or better still Ekuke,nine goats-2 billy goats,3 nannies,4 kids,3sheep,then at the extreme end was a poultry.Still admiring the arrangement the Ekuke started barking at me.

Its noise,attracted the attention of my family,who came over to the place saying they've been looking for me.Aidan who loved dogs so much started playing with the two bigger dogs.

The ekuke,probably out of jealousy almost bit Aidan,if not for the cage.We went inside,brushed and ate.My mum who was already set to go back called us together and advised us,she kept reminding us not to accept gifts from anybody.We bade her farewell,and Vitalis started crying,my granny chided him saying big boys don't cry,that I was the person who was expected to cry.

'Cry ke,mummy do fast and go biko,let me have the chance to check the neighbourhood',I said to myself.

My mum entered the car,as she was about to turn the ignition,she stopped like she remembered something,with a mean face'Beryl Chimuanya,I don't want to hear that you fought'.

Mama took it upon herself to vouch for me,'nwunye m,she is quiet,she won't fight'.If only she knew who I really was,she would have asked my mum the type of cane my body listens to.

Later,some kids,which my grandma said were our relations came and asked us to follow them to the stream.My grandma initially refused but when Pap came out and saw my clouded face and the heavy rain that was threatening to fall,he asked us to go,though he warned us to be careful.

We followed a bushpath to the stream,the walk down the stream was fun,the weather was cool,we reached the stream and saw many people swimming,there were taps where people lined up to fill their containers.

I took off to the direction where I saw people swimming,many stopped on seeing me,they were mostly on the same age bracket with me.

There were a group of boys and girls with a girl at the centre,they were playing with a ball.I went near them with the intention of joining them,they also stopped playing and started whispering,'onye ocha'.

I immediately stripped to my panties and singlet and jumped into the water,the ball was thrown to me but the girl who was the centre of attraction caught it and held it behind her back

"Juniour what are you doing with the bowl of meat?" Mum asked for the second time.

I was dumbstrucked, no words came out of my mouth, i thought that i would be able to defend myself but i found out that the scrowl of mum's face was what confused Itoro the housegirl.

"Ehm i was just tasting it" I galantly said after thinking for a while. I thought she would order me to eat it all but i was wrong.

A hot knock made me puke out what i even swallowed. My eyes immediatly well up in tears.

"Oya carry it out to Bingo right now" Mum shouted which made me scramble up and run with the bowl of meat to our big German Shepard dog in its cage. I was angry as the dog masticated what i thought would be given to me. I guess my case was just pure badluck.

I turn and went inside only to meet mum waiting for me. I stopped in my tracks and looked at her like a guilty saint.

"For touching something without permission you are subjected to two weeks of no egg and Mayoniase with your tea every morning" Mum said and went inside.

"Mum no!"I cried out in fear, i could not bear to miss my complete breakfast. I hated bread without my egg and Mayoniase, i tasted gross. I cried and murmured till dada came back with other Politicians, i quickly darted into the room before i was seen, then i peepd through the staircase till mum dragged me to my room and force me to sleep.

"Your punishment starts tomorow" She said and swith off the light.

I smiled and thought, Mum lets see if you would stop me infront of dad... If only i knew what fate had in stuck for me...
