Scientifically I agree that when any life form dies, no matter how complex, all it organic components cease function. As a scientist which I believe you are, and an atheist for that matter, why treat a corpse (Nelson Mandela's) as though he would continue on living somewhere unknown to you and I (perhaps maybe known to some religionists). By stating "Have some respect for the dead", just like many who say it, have knowingly indirectly acknowledge or knowingly assume that a departed person somehow, somewhere still lingers on in another type of existence by mere usage of the term "the dead".

Rudedough, in as much as I follow and agree with many of your brutely unapologetical well-informed responses on various threads on this forum, I think you've unknowingly shot yourself in the leg regarding your quoted and bolded reply above. First of all, as you may know-I'm not an atheist but I naturally conceive reasoning that are atheistic in respect to semitic deities, likewise I do share many atheistic viewpoints towards abrahamic religions and claims. Regardless of my stand, I'd like to point out that you have goofed without realizing it as I'm very sure atheism rejects all eschatological doctrines based on the unavailability of proof hence considered scientifically illogical; particularly the ressurrection of the dead for judgment on judgment day (Christianity) including any other model of life after death expressed in other believe systems. Thank you for your comment, i do appreciate when someone present a constructive criticism of my opinion.

I will also want to point out that my statement "have some respect for the dead" means the same thing as it literally sounds and not anything of a supernatural, ancestral or a soul lingering in another planet.

My take on this is that Nelson Mandela just died, he lived a life of pain, struggle and liberation for his country. He was loved and respected by many. "Socially", those who love him are still mourning and hurting from his death.

While people are still mourning their leader, some elements think it's the right time to criticize him which in my opinion is not socially right.

So i said, "this is not the right time nor the right thread to voice this opinion, have some respect for the dead" which literally means, have social respect for he who just passed and for those who're mourning his death.

I hope you understand my viewpoint and do feel free to point me out anytime. Cheers

Are you showcasing these trophies to show how powerful South Africa boxing is or to start an e-rumble on which country collected the most trophies?
