The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Mr Imohimi Edgal, on Wednesday confirmed the dismissal of eight officers for serious criminal offences.
He also confirmed demotion of six others.

Edgal stated that 108 officers were disciplined for various offences from January to July, 2018 in the Lagos State Command.
He made the disclosure at a Stakeholders’ Forum on “Police Accountability and Presentation of Advocacy Materials at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja.

The police chief said that 58 other officers recorded major entries, six officers reprimanded, 28 officers got warning motors, four officers had extra fatigue, while five others were discharged for lack of evidences against them.

“The days of police officers receiving slaps on the wrist for offences are gone. When you performed excellently well, you will receive a CP’s Commendation Letter.

“I am not happy punishing any officer, but that does not mean we should overlook unprofessional conducts. When I resumed as CP Lagos, I discovered that the public had lost confidence in the police.
“I set up a Citizen Complaint Hot Centre with 10 mobile phone lines through which people can complain about the wrongs of our men. I have received many complaints.

“However, there is no way I would know all that my men are doing if nobody complained,” NAN quoted him as saying said.
Edgal called on people in Lagos to continue to assist the police with information and other assistance, stressing that the 28,000 officers and men in Lagos were inadequate to police the state.

According to him, community policing in the state is working as it had reduced crimes by 35 per cent.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wants N6bn to feed policemen during the 2019 polls.

This is contained in the budget for the polls presented to the Members of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Electoral Matters who is presently in a meeting with INEC representatives in Abuja.

Lawmakers are asking the INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, to defend it.

The budget defence is ongoing at the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the Committee chairman, Aisha Dukku, a member representing Dukku/Nafada federal constituency, stated that the the proposed 2019 elections budget and the controversies therein will all be addressed.

Senator Bukola Saraki is presently in a closed-door meeting with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Senate president arrived at the home of Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital on Monday evening.

Although details of the meeting have not been made public, there are reports that it may be related to Saraki’s possible presidential ambition ahead of 2019.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated a new initiative to empower two million petty traders across the country between now and the end of the year. The initiative called the Trader Moni is meant to further enlarge the present administration’s financial inclusion agenda for all Nigerians regardless of social class and economic status.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

In a determined and significant bid to further enlarge its financial inclusion agenda for all Nigerians regardless of social class and economic status, the Buhari administration has launched a new initiative under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), called the TraderMoni, which will empower two million petty traders between now and the end of the year.

The scheme, which was launched last week in Lagos, would grant a minimum of 30,000 loans in each State of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

All together, the 2 million mark is expected to be attained on or before the end of this year, with petty traders in Lagos, Kano and Abia States set to be the first round of beneficiaries to draw the collateral free loans.

In addition to the 30,000 loans per State, States with larger populations like Lagos and Kano are expected to get more than 30,000 loans. Across the country, especially in the pilot states, about 500,000 potential beneficiaries have so far been enumerated.

In order to identify the beneficiaries, no less than 4,000 enumeration agents have been engaged by the Bank of Industry which is deploying the new scheme.

TraderMoni is designed to help petty traders expand their trade through the provision of collateral free loans of N10,000. The loans are repayable within a period of six months.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries can get access to a higher facility ranging from N15,000 to N50,000 when they repay N10,000 within the stipulated time period.

The goal of the Buhari Administration is to use the TraderMoni to take financial inclusion down to the grassroots, the bottom of the ladder, considering the contribution of petty traders to economic development. The Federal Government is also aware of the fact that many of the petty traders don’t have what the commercial banks require to grant them loans.

This administration is keen to ensure that such traders at that level are able to build their businesses and grow.

TraderMoni was launched last Tuesday in five markets in Lagos State, with tens of thousands beneficiaries already.

The Lagos markets already reached are Mushin, Ikotun, Agege, Ketu, and Abule Egba markets.

The scheme will soon be taken to other states in the country, with Abia and Kano states next in line.

Beneficiaries are already heaping praise on the Buhari administration for this initiative that will improve their businesses.

A trader in one of the Lagos markets, Anna Enwerem, thanked President Buhari for the initiatives.

“I sell clothes. This N10,000 would do a lot for me and my children. I like this programme so much. I will pay the loan before six months’ time. Before I didn’t believe it, but now that I have received my money I believe,” she said.

Similarly, Chief Mrs Mufiat Adewumi, a market women leader in Lagos, said it will help ordinary Nigerians who cannot have access to commercial banks’ credit facilities because they don’t have collateral, “We are happy about the TraderMoni because this is what we have been expecting for long, that the Government should assist the masses, especially the traders. We thank the Federal Government so much.”

A 17-year-old girl, Ramatu Tafida, has cut off the manhood of her 25-year-old boy friend, Mr Abdullahi Sabo, in Jigawa, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) has said for trying to dump her for another woman.

AC Adamu Shehu, the corps Spokesman in the state, who confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Saturday, said the incident occurred in Babura Local Government Area of the state.

Shehu said the victim, a resident of Kofar Gabas and a teacher at Government Girls Secondary School Babura engaged under N-Power.

“The incident occurred on Thursday in Babura when the attention of our officers was drawn by a good Samaritan who informed them that some youths were about to lynch a girl in Kofar Arewa, the residence of the suspect, to revenge for their friend.

“Immediately the officers swung into action and went to the scene and whisked the girl away to the office for safety, but they still followed her.

“It was upon reaching the office that we realised what led to the whole matter.

“Ramlatu confessed to have used a knife to cut off the manhood of her husband-to-be.

“According to her, Abdullahi is the love of her life and he was even introduced to her family members and has equally given the sum of N30,000 as an introduction fee.

“And because of that, she was free to be with him almost all the time. As a result they became too intimate that they engaged in sexual relationship.

“However, Ramlatu later learnt that the victim has planned to dump her for another girl since he has already known her as a woman. And that was what made her to plan and execute her attack,” he said.

Sheu said that the suspect further confessed that it was while they were together and about to start their usual affair that she confronted the victim with the issue and he responded in the affirmative.

“And already, she had a knife with her without his knowledge which she brought out and chopped off his manhood.

“After committing the offence, she ran to her parent’s house to inform her mother. And It was while she was there that the youths stormed the house.

The spokesman said that after knowing the situation, the officers rushed to the scene and took the victim to Babura General Hospital for medical attention.

The victim was later referred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in Kano.

Sheu said that the suspect had already been charged to court and remanded in prison until Sept. 6 for further hearing.

Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and leader of the North-West caucus in the lower chamber, Mr. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has stated that it would be in the interest of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to have the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara in its folds.

Ikom Divisional Police Station of the Cross Rivers State Police Command have launched an investigation into the gruesome murder of Pastor Esther Neji an Assistant Pastor with Assemblies Of God Church, Obudu road, Ikom.

It was gathered that the Late Neji was overpowered, raped to death by unknown assailants, who invaded her home on Sunday night, August 5, after Sunday Service at Assemblies Of God Church Obudu Road Ikom where she is assisting Rev.Elias Apieson.

Rev Solomon Ajuk, a Presbyter in the Ikom District of Assemblies Of God Nigeria, who confirmed the Development to PUO Metro Reports correspondent, said:

”We only discovered that since Sunday we’ve not seen her. On getting to her House we perceived an offensive Odour with her door still locked. We contacted the police who came and we forced the door open only to see her lying between the parlor and her room with a pool of blood on her bed”

”Her forehead had a wound where she was hit. A wrapper was on her neck, her pant was carelessly thrown suggesting that she was raped and killed. That’s the police preliminary investigation” He said.

The house of the late Pastor was scattered suggesting there was a struggle before she was over powered, raped and killed.

The Divisional Police Officer of Ikom Police Station Mr Aluyi abdulazez was on ground with his men and team of medical doctors who carried out autopsy confirming she was raped to death.

The Late Pastor, who hails from Akparabong in lkom LGA Of Cross Rivers State was engaged before her untimely demise.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately “order the unfreezing of the official accounts of Akwa-Ibom and Benue states illegally blocked” by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as such is a “direct attack on innocent Nigerians in those states.”

DAILY POST reported earlier on Wednesday that the state government’s account has been frozen by the anti-graft agency.

But, the Benue State Governor, Samuel Orton described EFCC’s action as political “witch-hunt.”

Reacting, PDP described the freezing as “illegal, unconstitutional, overtly wicked and cannot be justified under any guise within the clear dictates and contemplation of our laws and practice as a nation.”

The opposition party rejected the action of the Federal Government and counselled the “Buhari Presidency not to hide under the EFCC to unleash punishment and hardship on the people in states perceived to be averse to his 2019 re-election bid.”

In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP said, “illegally blocking the flow of funds to these states, the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government has ostensibly commenced a reprehensible design of using economic deprivation as a political tool to arm-twist governors and states to support President
Buhari’s re-election in 2019.

“The APC has been seeking ways to subjugate Nigerians, for which it has now resorted to subjecting millions of compatriots already impoverished by the misrule of the Buhari administration, to face more hardship by seizing funds legally belonging to them.

“Nigerians are all aware that no section of our constitution or any law in Nigeria for that matter confers any agency of the Federal Government
with powers to interfere or put any restrictions on funds belonging or accruable to states as federating units of our nation.

“Apart from its State Assembly, no other government body or institution has the powers of appropriation or restrictions on any funds belonging to the state.

“The PDP therefore urges all Nigerians to stand up and resist this dangerous trend introduced by the desperate APC to subjugate Nigerians, for which Akwa-Ibom and Benue states are now being used to test the will of the people in this direction.”

On struggles getting into music: I would say I was one of the lucky ones, the first time I ever recorded and dropped that got big, that was the first song I ever recorded, started blowing up.

On being recognized worldwide: Lucky for me I started when I was like 16, I’m 25 now so it’s been a while but now it’s like, everybody’s looking at Africa, everybody’s interested in whatever Africa’s doing, so it’s better now for us and easier for us to get stuff out there, they love the music too, it’s good music.

How long have you been acting?

I have been acting for five years now.

Can you mention some of the movies you have done?

I have featured in Maduka Daughters, Village Flavour, Okirika, The Israelite, Good Marriage, and Three Bad Girls, to mention a few.

How did you join the movie industry?

I joined the movie industry after leaving school. I knew I have the talent and I decided to pursue it.

What were the challenges you faced at the early stage?

My weight was a big challenge. I was very fat at the time and I didn’t get featured in roles I knew I could deliver, because all the producers saw was a fat, ugly girl. Not my talent.

How did you overcome it?

Oh well, when you get tired of being fed bullshit, you have to make a change at some point. All that matters is how you see yourself. I knew I am more than what they could see and that image alone kept me going.

Did it make you depressed?
I battled depression at some point. But like I said, if you know who you are, nothing can stop you. Not for too long.

Sexual harassment is a common trend in the industry, how did you scale through?
I haven’t been sexually harassed by any producer, I’m one of the lucky ones.

Did you hit the gym or work on your size to fit in?

A jealous 3rd lady has been arrested for killing her husband and father of their two children, Olumide Ayeni, few months after they decided to get married in Lagos

The incident happened, last night, in Lagos Island. According to friends of the deceased, the wife, who is known to be hot tempered and jealous, saw Olumide with a lady, yesterday.

She was said to have started a fight with him when he got home and stabbed him in the chest in the process.

The injured Olumide was rushed to a hospital close to their Lagos Island home where he eventually bled to death.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said that the political elite are not comfortable with President Muhammadu Buhari and have, therefore, ganged up against him.

According to the Governor, Buhari had done nothing wrong except that the elite, for fear of molestations for corrupt practices, had risen against him.

He said that Buhari believes in the masses and also believes strongly that the wealth of the nation must be managed so that the masses could benefit from it.

The Governor spoke at a meeting of South-East APC Women and Youth leaders for Buhari weekend, at the Government House Owerri.

He words “Having realized that our voting powers lie on the youths and women, we want to make them vital instruments for the pursuit of this expected victory for President Buhari come
2019.

“And why the Igbos should and would support the person of Muhammadu Buhari and understand what the name Buhari actually means because there has been a lot of misrepresentations and misunderstanding of the person of Buhari.

“The political jobbers have tended to give him all types of interpretations but the truth remains that President Buhari is a good man, a leader and a man who stands by the truth and is not a man who believes in the primitive accumulation of wealth.

“In the election of 2015, Igbo never gave him the support he deserved. We were the least in the Six geo-political zones in the support for Buhari in 2015 and that has left a political vacuum for ndi Igbo both locally and at the centre.

“So, we want to correct that story and change the narratives that Igbo do not hate Buhari but actually love him. Igbo this time around will support President Buhari.

“A victory for PMB is a victory for ndi Igbo and we shall not be found wanting in the political equation of Nigeria anytime, any day. Our bad politics in 2015 left a very big gap yet to be filled and we must fill it. To do so, the youths and women must take up their responsibilities if this journey must be completed.

“Igbo play a major role in the unity of this nation. And as long as there is peace in Igbo land, Nigeria will remain an indivisible entity because there is no nook and cranny of the nation you will go without finding an Igbo man. So if you ask, who is a true Nigerian, it is the Igbo man.”

Senator Joseph Waku has accused Al Makura of Nasarawa State and Senator Geroge Akume of being the brain behind the recent move by some members of the Benue State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Samuel Ortom.

According to him, the duo had sworn with their blood to make sure Benue remained ungovernable.

He told Sun that, “What is happening in Benue State is very unfortunate. It is a tragedy. It is a big shame and a big stain on our democracy. How can eight members out of 30 threaten to impeach the state governor when they don’t have the majority? These eight lawmakers are in the minority, and so what they are doing is obviously illegal.

“But unfortunately, it is these eight minority lawmakers that APC leadership and the Nigeria Police are backing. It is a big shame that the hatred and open hostility that APC leadership both at the federal and the state levels have for Governor Ortom that is blinding them to the illegality of the criminality they are supporting in Benue State. I am ashamed that this is the kind of democracy that APC and the Federal Government are practising. Imagine the Federal Government and the Presidency looking the other way while the Nigeria Police is being used to give illegal protection to these eight lawmakers who are in the minority.

“Our leaders should cover their faces in shame. Imagine the Federal Government and the Presidency looking the other way while the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris is giving police protection to these rebellious lawmakers. Is it not the same police that can’t stop herdsmen from killing innocent Benue State women, children, pregnant women and old men that are now protecting the eight lawmakers. The IG is a big disgrace. His action and conduct in Benue State and even in other parts of the country is very unprofessional.

“It is sad that the police IG, Ibrahim Idris is using Nigeria Police as a tool of oppression against the weak – this is one of the reasons why the clamour for state police has to be taken serious. The Nigeria Police has become a tool of oppression in the hands of the Federal Government. The moment you are perceived as an enemy or opponent of APC or the Federal Government, they now turn the police on you to harass and torment you. This is very sad. I hope President Muhammadu Buhari will take urgent steps to redress all these anomalies before they boomerang. Nobody will talk about all these overzealous officials when problem starts but it is Buhari as the nation’s leader everybody will mention because the buck stop at his table.

“Governor Al-Makura is not portraying himself to be a friend of Benue people. It is his government that is providing cover for those people who are making life difficult for Benue people. He is the chief host of the herdsmen tormenting our people in Benue State. Al-Makura doesn’t love us in Benue State, and that was why he played host at the meeting where the decision was taken by George Akume to sack Ortom illegally. Al-Makura should change and pray to God for forgiveness because of his unfriendly attitude to people of Benue State.”

Enitimi Alfred Odom aka Timaya was seen on the streets of Atlanta in the United States of America walking around with his third child from his second baby mama.

Dancehall singer Timaya recently welcomed his 3rd child named Emmanuel with his second baby mama.

He was pictured carrying his newborn baby on the street of Atlanta, USA with pride. He hinted that he would be heading to Canada for his music tour.

The Director General NYSC, Brigadier General Suleiman Kazaure has revealed plans by the Federal Government to review the allowances of Corps Members.

Brigadier General Kazaure made the revelation while addressing the 2018 Batch ‘B’ Corps Members deployed to the FCT at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Kubwa today August 2nd. He said government was taking necessary steps to review upward Corps Members allowance.

The NYSC Boss advised the corps members to seize the opportunity available by the scheme’s skill acquisition programme to empower themselves to be self-reliant during and after the service year. ‘‘You are the future leaders and our hope is in you’’ the DG added.

He charged them to be good ambassadors of the scheme and their families with a call to ensure that Nigeria remains indivisible.

Brigadier General Kazaure then cautioned them against unnecessary journies and indecent dressing, adding that they should be security conscious at all times.

Earlier, the FCT Coordinator, Mallam Ballama Bello Birniwa, informed the Director General that the Corps Members had since acquainted themselves with the ideals of the scheme and that the Orientation Course was going on well.

Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus of the House of Representatives say they will keep vigil at the National Assembly all night over alleged plot by some APC senators to invade the senate chamber and remove Senate President Bukola Saraki.

It was gathered that the lawmakers who were led by the acting Minority Leader of the House, Chukwudi Onyema, said they were going to keep vigil to make sure the alleged plans were thwarted.

While speaking to journalists, Onyema said that the PDP caucus had information that three senators, Abdullahi Adamu, Ovie Omo-Agege and Ali Ndume, were planning to forcefully invade the senate chamber while the Senate is on recess.

Both the Senate and the House of Representatives are on recess till September.

Onyema said: “The aim of their invasion of the senate while senators are on recess, to come and sit illegally when everybody is out on recess, is to impeach the senate president.

“We also have it on good authority that they are planning to come back this night and tomorrow morning aided by security forces; our own security forces whose job is to protect the lives of Nigerians.

“They are the ones leading these dissident senators to come and truncate our democracy. We might think they want to take over the senate; that’s not what they want to do.

“They want to truncate this democracy of ours. But we the PDP caucus have decided to stay here to keep vigil and wait to see what’s going to happen tonight and tomorrow night,” the deputy minority leader stated.

He charged Nigerians to stay awake with the caucus because “this is not a rape on the National Assembly, it’s a rape on democracy which concerns all of us.”

“If we allow this to happen, then we can as well go back to when we use to have a military junta. We also have some information that some policemen have arrived. We want to find out what they are doing here”.

Afrobeat legend, Femi Kuti has confirmed that Andrew Aghedo, a member of his band ‘The Positive Force’, absconded in the United States, 20 minutes before they were to perform.

Aghedo could not be traced as Femi was about to thrill New Yorkers at the Central Park, New York on Sunday after performing at the XPoNential Music Festival in New Jersey.

Femi, in a post on his Instagram page, lamented that the disappearance of Aghedo could have ruined his show.

He, however, expressed gratitude to the rest of the band for their performance.

“My bassist, Aghedo Andrew nearly ruined my concert yesterday in New York @Summerstage.

“He disappeared 20 minutes before the show; I want to thank the rest of the band for standing strong and giving one of the best shows of the tour.”

His sister Yeni, had earlier called out the bassist, praying that he gets deported.

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has dissolved the Kwara State executive committee of the party.

It cited electoral malfeasance in the last ward, local and state congresses as basis for the dissolution of the committee.

The National Working Committee, NWC, at its meeting on Monday in Abuja examined the unfolding developments within the party in Kwara state, specifically the irregularities that characterized the conduct and outcome of the congresses that produced the leadership of the party at all levels in Kwara.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had at the weekend reportedly asked party officials loyal to Senate President Bukola Saraki to resign their appointments and announced Bashir Bolarinwa as the new state chairman of the party.

The NWC has now asked Mr Bolarinwa to assume office with immediate effect.

The National Chairman of the Party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni in a statement at the end of the NWC meeting said, also reviewed, were the actions of some leaders of the party that emerged from the above congresses who participated in an open rally calling on the Senate President to decamp to the PDP.

The party said: “After a careful and exhaustive deliberation on this and other developments in the state chapter of the party and pursuant to the provisions of Article 13.4 (xvi) and (xvii) of the Party’s constitution invoked its power as enshrined therein, therefore resolved to dissolve all party organs from Ward, Local Government and State Executive of the Party in Kwara state; to constituency caretaker committee at all levels of the party of the party organ at Ward, Local Government and State Executive Committees of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara state.

“That Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa shall and is hereby appointed as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the State Executive Committee of APC in Kwara State”.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with former Minister of Defence, Gen. Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (retd), on the death of his wife, Hajiya Binta.

In a condolence message issued in Abuja on behalf of his family, the government and people of Nigeria, President Buhari said the death of Hajiya Binta came to him “as a great shock.”

A statement issued by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, quoted Buhari as saying: “A wife occupies an important place in a man’s life, a bond so strong that we treat our wives like our own flesh and blood.

“My heart goes out to General Gusau at this emotionally trying moment. Death is inevitable and we are powerless against the will of God. No tears can wipe away our grief, the best tribute to the dead is to pray for them.”

The President prayed Allah to comfort General Gusau and members of his family, and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“May the soul of Hajiya Binta rest in perfect peace, May Allah reward her good deeds with al-Jannah, Amen,” he said.
