Arsenal manager, Unai Emery is considering changing the Gunners’ usual possession football and will instead take a more direct approach against a physical Cardiff City on Sunday.

Speaking with Saturday Beats earlier in the week, Nwagbo said that her upbringing and fear of God has helped her maintain a controversy-free life.


She said, “The pressure of marriage comes but I am happy for the type of parents and family members I have. They all understand that marriage is not a decision I have to make in a hurry. The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has made claims concerning President Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to China and as well as the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The President will leave the country on Friday with some governors, senators, ministers among others.

CUPP said it had uncovered political and legal landmines being put in place by the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to “derail the course of a credible, free and fair polls in 2019”.

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesman, in a statement on Friday, said part of it was the delayed assent on the Electoral Bill, a situation the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned.

He said: “Nigerians will recall that the National Assembly delivered to the President the Electoral Act Amendment Bill for his assent. The President has 30 days within which to assent. Today is President Buhari’s last working day within the 30 day period. We had earlier raised this alarm that the President was unwilling to sign the amendment into law.

“It has now become clearer that the President will later today after hosting the German Chancellor Angela Merkel depart to frolic in China at the 7th Summit of the Forum on China – Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a visit the President is embarking on with an unnecessarily bloated government delegation devoid of any Nigerian businessmen/women or beneficial target.

“We have it on good authority that a National leader of the APC working with the leadership of the APC before and after their APC NEC meeting yesterday and in the early hours of today have convinced the Buhari led APC government to reject signing the amended Electoral Act as it will open the road to defeating the APC especially in the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election as the new amendments especially the mandatory use of card readers, electronic transmission of result and accreditation will give no room for massive rigging and manipulation of figures in 2019.

“The APC is scared of the amendment and currently pressuring Buhari to withhold assent and travel to China despite knowing the importance of signing the amendment as most of INEC 2019 preparation and budget are tied to some provisions in the yet to be signed law. The fear of free and fair election is solely behind the reason Buhari wants to run to China without signing a law critical to survival of our democracy despite the fact that the Parliament has deleted all the controversial sections Buhari wants removed, just to please him.

“The plot we have uncovered is that the ruling APC in active connivance with the President have already concluded plans on how to rig the Osun State Governorship election in favour of the APC and signing the amendment will frustrate all their plans. This will in turn grant them some more undue advantage in the 2019 general election for which the President is obviously having a mortal fear that Nigerians will throw him out of office.

“Similarly, the stopping of the Continuous Voter Registration by the INEC today is part of a larger plot by the President and the Ruling APC to deny angry and desperate Nigerians who have been turning out in their hundreds from having the opportunity to vote. Simple analysis has shown the ruling Party that a vast majority of the over 13 million new registrants are people who want to ensure that President Buhari does not continue to destroy our country beyond May 2019 and stopping the process four months before the statutory time can help them mitigate their challenges.

“We are therefore calling on all Nigerians of goodwill to demand that the President assents to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill before he embarks on yet another fruitless and wasteful journey at the expense of the suffering Nigerian masses and also demand that INEC continues the process of the Continuous Voter Registration so that many more Nigerians will not be disenfranchised.”

ENUGU—SENATORIAL aspirant for Enugu North senatorial zone, Mr. Chinedu Eya, has called on the leadership of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to grant him waiver, as well as other Nigerian youth aspiring to contest elections under the umbrella of the party, as the party commences sale of Expression of Interests and Nominations Forms for the 2019 general elections.

Eya who spoke against the backdrop of the approval by National Executive Committee, NEC, of his party which recently released the guidelines for the 2019 general elections, maintained that in keeping with the party’s promise to enhance the inclusion of young persons in the democratic process of the country, they should grant waivers to the youths to enable them contest elective positions.

In a statement by his media adviser, Gwiyi Solomon, Chief Eya posited that having worked for the party in convening and coordinating, “Why it must be PDP in 2019” (WIMBPDP2019), a pressure group with a wide membership across the 36 states of the federation, he should be given a waiver for the purchase of Interest Form.

Eya elaborated that his organisation, “Why it must be PDP” has since its existence in 2015 carried out a lot of activities, championing the party’s cause, defending it from the ruling party’s tyranny and politics of vendetta through aggressive press statements.

“I am equally a sponsor of several political ambitions which lastly included sponsoring Samuel Ugochukwu Ugwu for Nsukka Local Government chairmanship election of 2017.

“At the state level of our party, I am the state wide initiator of “No Vacancy in the Lion Building, Gburugburu till 2023″. This is a group at the state level of our party agitating for the retention of the PDP and Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi till 2023.So, why should I, having been spending my personal resources to promote the party, pay heavily for the purchase of our party election forms?” Chinedu queried.

He equally noted that if “all female aspirants are exempted from the payment for the purchase of nomination forms for all offices except national and ad-hoc delegate categories, same gesture should be extended to Nigerian youths.”

The senior pastor of the Inland Hill Church in California, USA, Andrew Stoecklein , has died after he committed suicide following a long battle with depression and anxiety.

The 30-year old clergyman last Friday, August 24th was rushed to the hospital after he had tried taking his life. He died over the weekend from complications from the attempted suicide.

A statement from his church reads

“Inland Hills Church grieves with heavy hearts as our Lead Pastor Andrew Stoecklein was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday night after battling depression and anxiety. It’s not the outcome we hoped and prayed for, and today we grieve as a church family. In his time leading Inland Hills, Andrew reached so many with his warm wit, passionate heart for God, and teaching that always, always pointed others to Jesus. The loving husband, father, son, and friend that he was will continue to inspire us in leading others into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

And in this tragedy, we encourage anyone who is hurting emotionally to ask for help. If you or anyone else is struggling, the Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800-273-TALK (8255) is a potentially life-saving resource.

An accused, Toyin Ajakaye, has told an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court that he killed an Okada rider, Omoniyi Are, because of disagreement over N100.

Toyin told the court that he engaged the commercial cyclist to convey him to the farm where a fight allegedly ensued between them over a disagreement on the transport fare.

The fight, he said, was sparked by his offer to pay the deceased N100 out of the N200 charged by the cyclist. The defendant claimed that he had N100 on him.

According to the charge sheet, Toyin allegedly committed the crime on August 22 at Agbado-Ekiti in Gbonyin Local Government Area.

Toyin claimed that he held the deceased by the neck as he (Omoniyi) was trying to hold his private part. He added that the deceased died in the course of the struggle.

The accused person confessed that when he couldn’t carry the corpse, he dug a shallow grave and tied a rope around the neck of the deceased and buried him on the farm.

Toyin said he was arrested by passersby who handed him over to the police.

The Investigating Police Officer, Lasisi Basiru, confirmed the story of the accused.

The police prosecutor, Oriyomi Akinwale, prayed the court should grant his request to remand the accused in prison custody.

Before adjourning the case till October 16, presiding magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Afeniforo, ordered that Toyin be remanded in prison custody.

Ahead of the 2019 general electons, Charismatic Anambra Catholic Priest, Reverend Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Ebubemonso has cautioned the South-east against being deceived by the promise of Igbo presidency in 2023.

The cleric spoke at his Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, when he received Eighteen (18) of the first Christian converts in Guangzhou, China, who arrived Nigeria as pilgrims.

The team comprising three Catholic priests, two Catholic Reverend Sisters and other Chinese Christians were accompanied by seven representatives of Nigerians resident in China.

In his sermon, Fr. Ebubemonso also cautioned against launching of Operation Python Dance 3 by the Nigerian Military.

“The problem of Nigeria is recycling of power and having said this I also want to warn that the Northerners should stop using Igbo Presidency 2023 to deceive Ndigbo as it is impossible to materialize unless by divine mandate,” he said, regretting that “Igbos are complacent in pursuing a collective interest, though quick to pull down their own brothers.”

Ebubemonso, who was visibly worried on the arrest, detention and incarceration of over 100 women in Imo State, described it as “a shame and a disgrace to President Muhammad Buhari’s government.”

While rejecting the plans by the military to establish operation Python dance 111 in the South East, Ebubemonso said “the Army should take the operation Python Dance 111 to Borno State and other states in the North East where Boko Haram is ravaging not in South East where there is peace.”

He raised alarm that the Python Dance mission was a sinister move to wipe some other youths after so many lost their lives during the Operation Python dance 11.

On the visit by the Chinese Christians, he said he saw the revelation many years ago that Uke community Adoration ground would be an attraction internationally for pilgrims as God had chosen it as a healing ground.

Fr Obimma who spoke on ” silencing the accuser ” asked Christians not to yield to the scheming of the enemy but to be focused and battle the devil to a standstill, then expand their internal horizon through wisdom to survive better.”

He encouraged Christians to pray for the Chinese Christians “as it is very difficult to worship Jesus Christ in such a Communist nation.”

He thanked Emeka Ugoagwu, the Divine Love prayer group China leader, for taking Charismatic movement to China, which heralded Christianity in the city of Guangzhou.

Addressing the congregation, leader of the Chinese delegation, Mary Lu appealed to Christians in Nigeria to pray for Chinese people to receive Jesus Christ in their lives as the only Lord and Savior.

Lu, who is the Coordinator of the Chinese Charismatic Group, Yide, road, Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral, Guangzhou, China recounted how they encountered Jesus Christ in Guangzhou City through Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma, who he said God used to heal their brother suffering from a terminal cancer.

She said they accepted Jesus Christ in 2006 and that two years later encountered Rev Fr Ebubemonso who joined them to a hospital where their brother was counting his days on earth but God used Fr Ebubemonso to restore his health.

Lu said her team were in Nigeria on Pilgrimage, courtesy of Divine Love Prayer Group China led by its coordinator, Brother Emeka Ugoagwu, to learn the rudiments of serving Jesus Christ and evangelism.

Later in his speech, Mr Emeka Ugoagwu, coordinator of Divine Love Prayer Group China, confirmed the cancer healing story and announced that this was the first time such number of Chinese were living their shores to another copuntry for a Church trip rather than business and other related engagements.

He explained to Fr Ebubemonso that the people of China were still waiting for him to return after God used him to restore health to the cancer patient, at least to spread the gospel in other parts of China not only Guangzhou.

An All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Governorship aspirant in Imo State, Steve Nwoga who attended the event, in an interview prayed God Almighty to grant the pilgrims the grace and anointing to preach the gospel in a communist country like China, to enable them overcome persecution and reach the over 1 billion Chinese in their country who do not know Jesus Christ.

Nollywood veteran Genevieve Nnaji’s latest movie, `Lionheart’ is set to premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. The annual festival is scheduled to take place from Sept. 6 to Sept. 16.

Nnaji’s first directional movie `Lionheart’ will screen for the first time at the festival on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)has approved four more experimental treatments against the deadly Ebola virus, the health ministry said as it raced to contain an outbreak in its violence-torn east.

Health authorities on Aug. 11, started administering the U.S.-developed mAb114 treatment to Ebola patients,
the first time such a treatment had been used against an active outbreak.

The DRC health ministry said in a daily bulletin that the 10 patients who received mAb114 since Aug. 11 have
experienced a “positive evolution”, but the outbreak has continued to grow.

The four additional treatments approved by Congo’s ethics committee are Remdesivir, made by Israel’s Gilead
Sciences; ZMapp, an intravenous treatment made by San Diego’s Mapp Pharmaceutical; Japanese drug
Favipiravir; and one referred to as “Regn3450 – 3471 – 3479”.

Remdesivir was administered to its first patient in the town of Beni on Tuesday, who is doing well,
the ministry said in its bulletin.

The ministry said six new cases and four new deaths have been confirmed from the haemmorhagic fever, which
causes vomiting and severe diarrhea.

That brings the total number of deaths to 59 and confirmed cases to 75 since July.

Congo, whose heavily forested interior makes its a natural home for Ebola, is at the forefront of a global
campaign to combat the virus, which killed more than 11,000 people when it swept through West Africa
from 2013 to 2016.

The Central African country has experienced ten Ebola outbreaks since the virus was discovered in northern
Congo in 1976, more than twice as many as any other country and 33 people died in a flare-up in the
northwest that ended last month.

In addition, a vaccine manufactured by Merck, which proved effective against the earlier outbreak in
northwestern Congo, has been administered to 1,693 health workers and contacts of Ebola patients.

Insecurity in Congo’s eastern borderlands with Uganda has continued to complicate the response, with
some contacts of Ebola patients located in so-called “red-zones”, which are off limits to emergency
responders due to militia activity.

Use ATMs that you are familiar with

If possible, plan and withdraw cash from an ATM in a location you are familiar with. You are more likely to notice if something is wrong, and you will also minimise the number of ATMs that you stick your card in (reducing the chances that you are caught in a card skimming scam).

Tips for using an ATM securely

Who else is around?

As you approach an ATM, pay attention to your surroundings; who else is in the area, and what are they up to? Thieves may be lingering nearby to watch you enter your PIN, or they might want to see how much cash you get (and whether or not it is worth trying to rob you). Be wary of anybody who offers to help you use a ‘finicky’ or malfunctioning ATM – it is more likely that they are helping themselves to your money. If you feel uncomfortable about anybody in the area, use a different ATM.

Look before you use

Take a look at the ATM before you insert your card. Look for equipment or damage that might suggest that the ATM has been tampered with. Thieves can install card-readers, hidden cameras, and keypad readers (for stealing your PIN) on ATMs – and sometimes, they are difficult to see. You can even give the equipment a little bump to see if it moves easily, but don’t damage the equipment. Again, if you are suspicious, find a different ATM.

Have your card ready

ATM withdrawals are best done as in-and-out transactions. Anybody behind you in line will appreciate efficiency. More importantly, you don’t want to hang around in front of an ATM fumbling for a card. Plan so that you at least know where everything is. When you dig through your wallet or purse, you are less aware of your surroundings, which can create opportunities for thieves.

Drive defensively

If you are withdrawing money at a drive-through, pull your car up as close as possible to the machine. It allows you to conduct business through your window, without opening your door and getting out of the vehicle. This is to avoid being vulnerable to thieves and carjacking. Lock your doors, and close any windows that don’t need to be open until you are back in motion.

Put the cash away

After you get your cash, get the money out of sight as quickly as possible. Temptation grows when thieves can see exactly what is available to them.

Use the buddy system

If you are concerned about getting cash alone, bring somebody with you. They can serve as an extra set of eyes, and thieves will be less interested in taking on multiple people.

If the ATM does not deliver

In rare cases, an ATM will malfunction, keeping your card or simply failing to give you your money. If that happens, try to cancel out the transaction by hitting the ‘cancel’ key numerous times and looking for clues on the screen. Document what happened, and contact your bank immediately to get the situation resolved.

A Swedish fighter jet crashed after colliding with a flock of birds in southern Sweden on Tuesday, authorities said, adding the pilot ejected safely.

“It was a bird collision and the pilot had to eject,” Johan Lundgren, spokesman at the Swedish Armed Forces told AFP.

The pilot was on a training mission in a Jas Gripen aircraft manufactured by Swedish aerospace company Saab.

The accident happened eight kilometres (five miles) north of a military air base near the southern Swedish city of Ronneby.

The pilot was taken to a hospital for a check-up.

Authorities said the accident happened in a forest area and no casualties were reported.

Sweden reports about 400 incidents where planes collide with birds every year, Charlotte Billgren at the Swedish Transport Agency told the TT news agency.

Saab Defence and Security is a major exporter of military material such as the Gripen fighter jet to the Czech Republic, Hungary, South Africa, Thailand and Brazil.

In 2017, a Gripen fighter jet crashed in Thailand during an air show. The pilot died.

And in 2015, another jet leased by Hungary skid off the runway at a Czech airbase and was completely damaged.

Serious tragedy took place in the Nwani family in Asaba Sunday night, as their son, Aniemeka Nwani who is in his 30s, slaughtered his two younger brothers, kingsley and Nwayo, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

The News Agency of Nigeria gathered from a family source on Monday that Aniemeka killed his brothers one of whom was an undergraduate with a machete.

The source who pleaded anonymity did not give details but said the three brothers and their widowed mother had had a family meeting before the ugly incident.

He said however that man had been a patient at a psychiatric home in Uselu in Edo.

He said the widow, a Permanent Secretary in the Delta civil service, had returned from Canada where the daughter lives two weeks ago, after a medical check-up.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Delta, (DSP) Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident and described it as tragic.

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to jail more “thieves” who brought the country to economic woe.

President said this on Saturday at the Aso Villa in Abuja in an interview shortly after he returned to the country from his 10-day vacation in London.

“We are going to jail more of the thieves, you know, that brought the economic problem to the country. I think this is really expected of me and I will do it,” he said.

President Buhari also reacted to the defection of some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, telling Nigerians to vote whoever they like.

He advised the defected members and other political leaders across the country to allow the people to perform their civic responsibility of electing whoever they want as their leader.

He said, “Let people choose what party they want to belong to, but let them make sure that they have empowered their constituencies by educating them (Voters Registration) and making sure that they’ve got their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and that they use their right as Nigerians to vote whoever they like.

“This is the beauty of democracy, this is what I am hoping to see,” the President added.

The President, who left the country for the United Kingdom on August 3, was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari, and other top government officials.

They include: the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, among others.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and the service chiefs were also on the ground to welcome the President.

A couple of weeks ago, news went round social media that actress Tonto Dikeh was involved with controversial South African pastor, Shepherd Bushiri.

Omoruyi Efe, the son of deceased veteran actor, Sam Loco has relieved some fond memories he had of his father, stating that no one dared his father to stop smoking.

Omoruyi said his father, Sam Loco was planning his retirement by building a farm in Abakaliki before death took him away.

He told Vanguard: “Nobody could tell him to stop smoking because he was a very strict person. You couldn’t tell him something like that, so we didn’t see it as our business. However, we really miss him in the house because he had a very good sense of humour but he was a very busy person.

“We all expected him to retire so that we would have enough time to spend with him. He was also planning towards his retirement by building a farm in Abakaliki but death took him away suddenly,” he said.

The late actor’s son further disclosed that he admired his father especially as an actor, and Sam Loco hoped he would follow in his footsteps.

“I admired my daddy as an actor. All through my primary school days, I was into acting. He wanted me to go into acting after my WAEC before I got admission into the university and I was enrolled into the acting academy for a while before I gained admission into the university. I am very sure if I go into acting full time now, my dad would be very proud of me but I don’t think I would go back to acting anytime soon,” the late veteran’s son said.

In 2011, the Nigerian entertainment was thrown into mourning after the death of popular comic actor, Sam Loco Efe was announced. The veteran actor died of cardiac arrest.

Aside from being one of the funniest actors of his generation, Sam Loco was known to be a heavy smoker.

A 14 year old girl has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command on Friday, for allegedly killing her boss by smashing her head with a stone.

The girl who was identified as Anna Amos, a secondary school student murdered the 71-year-old Hellen Adodo, whom she had lived with since March, 2018, as a house-maid.

Anna, from Abuja, gave the step-by-step description of how she committed the murder, when she was paraded alongside 101 other criminal suspects arrested by the police.

The teenager who was in tears all thorough the period, narrated how her victim had treated her fairly all the years she lived with her.

She however blamed her dastardly act on influence of unseen voodoo spirit which possessed her.

According to the suspect, in the morning of that fateful day, she boiled water for the deceased to bathe, after which she served her her meal, before she killed her.

“After that?, I packed the dirty plates outside to wash them. As I opened the door and stepped on the veranda, something just came into my body as if possessing me. I no longer know what I was doing and I abandoned the plates? I was supposed to wash. I stood on the stone, and later took it, went inside with it and hit it on her head,” she narrated.
“I do not know what entered my body. It was a spirit. It told me to go and kill her. She did not offend me.” she added.

The deceased was initially reported to have died after her head was smashed with a stone by unknown persons who allegedly sneaked into her residence on Guobadia Street, in Benin, at about 7am. The assailants supposedly blindfolded the teenage suspect before killing the septuagenarian.

When asked why she earlier said some people came into their house, gagged her mouth before smashing the head of the late woman, Anna blamed her dastardly act on influence of unseen voodoo spirit which possessed her.

“The thing that entered into me was controlling me, it told me that if I expose it, it will kill me.”

She later confessed her crime to the son of the deceased, who handed her to the police operatives.

A clip obtained by journalists on Wednesday showed the teenager confessing to the crime in the presence of some residents in the area.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chidi Nwabuzor, had stated that the Command received a distress call over the matter at about 8:30 am.

Nwabuzor also disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

“At about 8:30 am, the Divisional Police Officer of New Etete Police Station received a distress call that the woman in question was murdered. The DPO went there and found her lifeless body in her house in a pool of blood from the head region and a stone close to the body. The (distress) caller said that two men came into the residence, murdered the woman and went away. The DPO went there with operatives only to find the body on the ground in a pool of blood from the head region.

Then on investigation, it was revealed today that a girl who was staying with her, named Anna Amos, who came from the North with the help of the daughter of the late woman, was the one that killed the woman.

Confession was made by this Anna Amos that she actually killed the woman. Anna Amos is 14 years old and by law, she is still a minor. But we will do all we can to see what we can do. We will not rely on the confession of that girl because she might not be the one responsible for the killing of that woman. According to investigation, the woman has been going through a lot of challenges with her health and before her death, she was down with a stroke. Perhaps somebody else did and asked this little girl to own up as the culprit. So, investigation in ongoing. We will try our best to unravel the situation and the report will be made public,” Nwabuzor said.

It was gathered that the suspect Steven Ogbodo, from Enugu State stole his friend's tricycle on November 7th, 2017, sold it and fled to Calabar for sometime.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari was planning to use dead persons and underage children to rig the 2019 election.

The Party said that this was the main reason the President had allegedly refused to sign the electoral act amendment.

In a series of tweets on Thursday evening, the main opposition party said that Buhari was holding the country to ransom to achieve his personal ambition.

PDP wrote, “Why @MBuhari is jittery, embattled over Electoral Act: President @MBuhari, in his desperation to achieve a personal ambition, is holding the nation to ransom by refusing to sign the Electoral Act Amendment bill, passed by @nassnigeria to check manipulations during elections.

“The amendment bill also provides for Instant Transmission of Results from polling to collation centers which ensures real-time results and reduces human interferences and election malpractices, thus effectively checking the alteration of results by the @APC.
