This is my sixth year working offshore, it's ok but a very risky job. Planning seriously about something else which is not going to keep me away from my family. |

okito: As an Engineer, offshore work is like a dream come true especially on your first visit to the rig or production platform, however as the realities of the associated dangers begin to set in, you ask yourself if this is really what you want to do. Flying to location is just as risky as being on location itself especially when you are drilling an exploratory well and prognosis suggests highly pressured reservoirs. Food is served 5-7am/pm & 11 -1am/pm. ofcourse you have the best of local & continental dishes but after a while you just get tired of the food & become home sick. Working offshore when everything goes well can be boring, it gets interesting when you have a technical challenge to resolve, however you would rather everything goes smoothly (my opinion). Hey! I remember once flying out of location and 10 mins into the flight, the chopper starts acting funny, being the only passenger, I peeped to see the reaction on the faces of the pilots; tense. Worse still I saw them flipping through the pages of a manual and the contents of the manual were stuff like hydraulic failure, mechanical failure etc. My worst fear was confirmed! thankfully, they found a solution to the problem and 35 mins later, we landed safely at NAF base. In all, it is a beautiful experience. okito: As an Engineer, offshore work is like a dream come true especially on your first visit to the rig or production platform, however as the realities of the associated dangers begin to set in, you ask yourself if this is really what you want to do. Offshore rigs are a fun place to meet and make new friends. You learn a lot about life generally and other cultures aside yours. Its a place where you can have deep introspection and if not careful driven towards depression and brain damaging habits such as porn and other addictions. To survive here, cheerfulness is essential. Do not take life too seriously. Have an open mind and above all you can really appreciate the wonders of God and His creation as the chopper chops through cloudy skies for over a hundred kilometers in some cases to a remote drilling rig. Personally, its a beautiful life staying away from the hustle and bustle of town to go and make some dough...more days...more dollars...QED 3 Likes |

EMEKA1MILLION: my friend what are u even saying, 80% of sea truck vessels are service boats of not more than 100m LOA... Am a 3rd officer on board Mt diddi (that's if you've heard of her) and what do u know about thrusters? So na MT Diddi you dey? , I go come block you when you berth for NOJ tonight, make you leggo me some kegs.. Lol just kidding bro |

poiZon:Since you have a valid stcw and tanker familiarization, adding Huet can be an added advantage, but it's all for low level ratings... Since the crowd is booming up now in the maritime sector, things av gotten pretty harder for new comers, new laws are added everyday, requirements for a low level rating is seriously becoming harder to get... You should just target a vessel, maybe a service boat and just knock up your experience and gather up sea time which will help u in the long run... |
