Lordlexyy: Why Yobe, why not Kaduna or bauchi or even katsina? Beside, data from examination body do not hold credence to the true state of things or reflect on the quality of pupils. We have seen very educated northerners that one begins to wonder if the education ministry hasn't made the mistake of lowering their cut off mark. Provide a level playing field and these people will still excel.

Firstly, this thread clearly points out that there are few mega rich northerners who are also smart & intelligent. There is no doubt about that. The real question is why are there not so many of such people whose talents/intelligence is being harnessed through MASSIVELY provided education by their states and LGAs who are responsible for primary, VOCATIONAL, secondary and TECHNICAL schools.
The few INDIVIDUAL billionaires that are being highlighted on this thread, should also complement the state & LGA governments' efforts by donations to the education sector including scholarships.
That is what feeds into the cut off mark for national exams so they can have a quota in federal matters.

Lordlexyy: And all the stolen crude oil, ransome for kidnap, militancy, government patronage, fat budget, 13% derivation has failed to transformed the Niger Delta making it look like one hell of a cisse pit. That's one features of failures, making excuses and looking for whom to blame for their backwardness. Better management and judicious used of these allocations to the south south would have made Abuja look like one country home, but no, the leaders, typical of Nigerian opportunist are more concern about self than the general well being of the people. You will do well to direct your grievance to them.

Dude, the South is still better than the North a million times!! Given ALL the opportunities they've had from time immemorial. Small land space etc..but the South is still better!!

Kajuru castle, Kaduna

About 45 kilometres from Kaduna on the Southern Kachia road is the Local Government of Kajuru if you take the road at the right, in the centre of the town and drive past the Local Government Headquarters, for about 5-7 km you will see on the left a strange sight on a mountain ridge; a European castle in Africa!.

Kajuru Castle is not an ancient monument it was built in 1978 by a controversial German expatriate living in Kaduna , the style is very European and clearly German with a baronial hall, complete with suits of armour.

There are bedrooms looking like dungeons and several towers with crenulated walls. Beware the crocodiles in a pit protecting the huge castle like gates!, the road up is not for the fain hearted, nor vehicles without plenty of HP under the bonnet.

The views of the surrounding mountains and fascinating Inselbergs, are terrific and obviously why it was sited here.

There is a magnificent large stainless steel swimming pool, well equipped kitchens (it is self-catering for those who can gain entry)

Private Property, and entry to this place is not so easy, you will need permission from a German lady (some say a dragon!) who looks after the place.

The cost: 600 euros per night!!

Do you need another thread naming INDIVIDUAL educated northerners that are manning the various Schools, Hospitals, Universities(Public and Private), Industries, Research Institutes, Farms and Offices (Govt. And Private) etc. in the entire 19 states of the North?

The idea that the north is populated by nothing but illiterate almajiri's with nothing better to do than catwalk with bombs is pure propaganda and to be honest, we can't be bothered. Remember in America, just like anywhere in the world, there are destitutes. Don't let the actions of a disgruntled minority in the north becloud your objectivity.

Unfortunately that's the sad truth but the truth remains that if not for religious extremism, the North would be the best place to live in Nigeria. An average Northerner is loyal in friendship until religion comes up.

My dear, the objective measure will be what RATIO of Americans are destitute compared to those who are not.
What is the same ratio in northern Nigeria

Of course ther are some northerners who are also in the education sector but what is there ratio to the population of the North? And how has that affected the COMPARATIVELY low cut-off mark for northerners in national exams as posted earlier
As I said there are always INDIVIDUAL stars in each society, what is more important is to have MANY stars in the society such that the whole community/group/society/nation is BRIGHTENED by the CRITICAL MASS of these shiny elements.

Can you please show the CRITICAL MASS grin of shiny elements in your area? Is the poverty rate where you're from not 61%? Critical mass indeed.

Only a silly thinking person would believe that any Unity School would admit a student that scored 2 in the common entrance exams.

Kaduna Tomato Factory

The company, which was established about 33 years ago in Ikara, Ikara Local Government Area, has a capacity to process16,950 tons of tomato, 5,760 tons of mangos, 5,120 tons of oranges and 780 tons of pineapple annually.
Daily Trust gathered that the company which also has 700 hectares of land for tomato farming, was abandoned due to poor funding and mismanagement.

Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, who reopened the company, said it will soon commence production, adding that it was leased to an Indian firm, Messrs Springfield Agro Limited under Public Private Partnership.
Yero said: “Talks have reached advanced stages with potential partners towards reopening the state owned Makarfi Sugar Company, the Kachia Ginger Processing Company, the Zaria Pharmaceutical Company and Kafanchan Flour Mills. Our administration remains focused in achieving the objective of boosting investment by encouraging private sector participation in the economic growth and development of the state. As you may be aware, the state government is fashioning out a policy framework on investment, commerce and industry tailored towards providing the much needed enabling environment for private investors to do business with ease”.

Managing Director of Kewalram Group, owners of Springfield Agro Limited, Mr. Tarun K. Das, said the company will function at full capacity.

Nice piece.

However, please note that all these baby gains in the north that has taken many years can be blown up by a religious zealot in a second.
Therefore, i will advise all una northerners to ensure that you educate your children properly in order to build the future on today's gains. Sustainable growth and development is key.

The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics puts the percentage of the southern population living in absolute poverty at 61% and a population of 64.9 million puts the number of southerners living in absolute poverty at 39,650,000 as at 2012. That is about 40 million in the south going to bed hungry this night.

Thank you.
Massive education of ALL children is the key to SUSTAINABLE development of the SOCIETY as opposed to having a few rich INDIVIDUALS here & there or some infrastructure that will go to rot because the SKILLED manpower to adopt & adapt as well as maintain them is not WIDELY & generally available in the populace!

This is an hysterical lion's den.

When your population is in tens of millions, and there are only a handful of achievements, then you should be worried.

Apart from the few rich folks, those who achieved excellence via academics are mediocre. Heck, I saw a guy doing postgrad programme at middlesex uni on the list - shameful.

It seems other Nigerians have infected the Northerners with the art of celebrating mediocrity, this is so unlike them.

You lot need to rally around one another, and develop your region. Your folks are way behind others, despite the fact that "others" are also mediocre achievers - mostly book readers, and not critical thinkers.

Sad thread! undecided

The problem with the North as it is with Nigeria and black people as a whole is not that we do not have INDIVIDUAL bright spots & stars.
Rather it is that we do not have the CRITICAL MASS of people to make us relevant in the comity of NATIONS.
A tree does NOT make a forest.

These INDIVIDUAL stars of the North will do well to ensure their people are educated MASSIVELY and in good health.
Just as ONE example, it is very SHAMEFUL that a Bill Gates will be funding the eradication of polio and other diseases in the north & Nigeria when we have these "Lions" shocked shocked

So why is the north using marginalization as a reason for terrorism. Dan banza , duri uwar ka. The truth is that the highlighted wealth circulates among a privileged few, while in the south wealth is more evenly distributed. Ask yourself, with the likes of Dangote ( Africa's richest man) poverty on the northern streets is alarming. So keep deceiving yourself with those pictures, the reality is the reality.

9jacrip: The Northerners are gradually making statements after statements, this is one. I can predict that some folks from a section of the country would begin to feel very un-comfy with how Northerners are beginning to drop their passive toga on NL. In a nutshell, expect this thread to hurt some emotional creatures who will soon begin throwing tirades to provea point (where there's none) of being better off.

Honestly, I was hoping to see a lot of things because you can't ready get that much information about Northerners on the web, since most of you don't really travel to the west. And apart from the car designer guy, Jelani, and a next nuclear physicist that's a visiting professor in one of the top unis in America - I don't really see Northerners anywhere on the web.

I came on the thread to see if I could see a few achievers I can do a background check on, and follow their careers. However, I'm utterly disappointed. That's the truth.

Anyway, have fun. wink
