Whao! Delusional much? Amnesty international exposes everyone, including the “evil USA" that you Nigerians can kill to obtain its visa.
You know, the willful ignorance displayed by these knee-jerkers whose first reaction is "what about USA?" is actually what surprises me the most. Amnesty International has been complaining about the death penalty and other sundry issues in the USA since I was born. They keep going on about the US Army and co - whenever there are credible allegations there they are investigated and soldiers have been sent to prison for human rights violation in Iraq. In Nigeria you don't get any investigation but instant blanket denials from defence spokesmen telling you that AI is trying to derail them from doing their job. Soldiers descend on BRT buses and burn them on the streets and the Army spokesman comes out soon after to say hoodlums were responsible - no investigations, nothing. Stone Age country.

~~~"The Nigerian government is aware of the problem and has set up at least five Presidential Committees and working groups over the last decade on reforming the criminal justice system and eradicating torture. However, the implementation of these recommendations has been painfully slow."~~~
And in the end, the only people getting compensated for their time and troubles will be the presidential committee members who are already fat spoiled and possibly guilty themselves of ordering torture and elimination of people who disagree with their political position...
Pass that law to make torture a serious criminal offense..
Do you know how many soldiers have been jailed for things they did in Iraq? Who has been investigated or tried for anything in Nigeria? Is it not only blanket denials you get? Bad things happen everywhere - it is the way the society reacts to it that makes it human. Robbery, rape, murder, etc, happens in LA as well as Lagos. It's the official responses that are different.
[quote
author=lastpage]Thing is, the US is responsible for half of the war and
violence world over.
It creates wars, then sell weapons to both parties and then goes to the
U.N to secure a bogus resolution to finish-off the party it does not
like.
Take the issue of ISIL (Islamic state in Iraq and Levant).
These guys started off as small crooks with an Islamic agenda. In Syria,
U.S gave them support and weapons, to topple Assad, calling them
"moderate terrorist"! A terrorist is a terrorist, there is no
in-between, but the U.S never learns!
Since they cant bomb Syria directly, (they ran out of options and
support) they are hell-bent on toppling the man, using proxies.
In Libya, they supplied weapons to the same terrorists, just to get rid
of Ghadafi.
Now, with American weapons awash all over the place and the ones the
terrorist captured from fleeing Iraqi Army (same U.S arming Shite
against Sunnis), these ISIL guys have more than enough weapons, more
than so many countries military.
Now, America does not want to endanger its own citizens and it is saying
"No Boots on the Ground", waiting for some foolish leaders (l did not
say Naija o!) to push their own military men forward to fight and die on
the ground!
Again, as if the signs on the wall were not bold enough, America has
voted yesterday to send further weapons to "moderate terrorist" to fight
the ISIL, ignoring the fact that Syria and Iranian Armies are in the
best position to do this!
All in an effort to give weapons to some group so they can topple Asad!
The major terror-financing and terror-supporting countries like Saudi
Arabia, Quatar, Kuwait, Turkey are America's allies for now.
If you ask me, the coalition will fail (you cant win a war by just
aerial bombing alone, someone has got to do the "clean-up" on ground
otherwise they will regroup very quickly!) and those terrorist would
simply get stronger and emboldened.
America MUST STOP flooding the terrorist with more weapons.
Same failed policy is playing out in Ukraine! Always more weapons!
Amnesty International and some of these NGO's are sponsored by the
CIA/Pentagon so dont expect that they would not dance to their tune.
Our own Govt has to do what it has to do to tackle Boko haram though, l
agree that the Nigerian Police is crude, inefficient and uses torture to
extract information but who doesn't?
America does it in Guantanamo bay, Abu Graib prison and some of its
hidden cells all over Eastern Europe
Israel does it, Britain does it and we can go on and on.
Nigerian Govt needs to strike a good balance between Human rights and
Security.
We need more of Intelligence-led police operations as opposed to brute
force!
Here are some torture techniques carried out in Guantanamo bay.
this was said by one of d failed 9/11 hijacker
" Water is poured over the detainee. Interrogations start at Midnight, and last 12 hours. When he falls asleep, he is woken up by American pop music and water. Female personnel tries to humiliate and upset him, which is successful. A military dog is used to intimidate him. The soldiers play the American anthem and force him to salute. They stick pictures of 9/11 victims to him. He is forced to bark like a dog and his beard and hair are shaved. He is stripped nude. Fake menstrual blood is smeared at him and he is forced to wear a women's bra"
The police torture part is very true, I hav seen a lot of cases were d police in a bid to show dat dey r working will torture innocent people to agree to d crimes dey neva commit. However d part of nigerian army torturing BH suspected members is again not so true. I tink wen u r dealing wit terrorist organisation like BH, u don't consider human right cos those guyz ain't human.
cococandy: Truth needs to be told. Police and army brutality is rampant in this country.
Anyone can become a victim by just walking by an area that a crime was commited.
No reliable database.
No finger print technology
No DNA technology
Nothing nothing by which to at least start a trace of criminals should a crime happen.
All they rely on is torture and victimization of anyone unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,to force them to admit to crimes they didn't commit. So they can pass off as an efficient force doing their jobs well.
Meanwhile the real criminals go scot free.
An officer in the police informed us that there is something called "Judges Rule 2" that guides the Nigerian police, it basically stipulates that anyone found at or around a crime scene is a suspect to be arrested.
This is a ready-made tool for corrupt police officers to arrest, abuse and extort money from people whether or not they are guilty.
LOL...... you are trying to compare the torture techniques in GITMO to the ones used in SARS. Stop it oo. GITMO does not even come close at all. Soldiers in GITMO still fear being caught a little. But SARS, i repeat SARS....... They aim to kill.
Here anywhere is crime scene. I remember random raids on our hostel street during my school days. They would just arrest young men and sometimes women under the pretext that there was a reported robbery in the area.
Before the unfortunate one could bail themselves out they would have spent like 20-30k. Imagine if they arrested 10 persons per raid. They just embark on such missions when they are running low on weed money.
Vagabonds angry
kadas01: Do the police just "barge" into you or carry out "raids" without any crime committed around that "vicinity"?? shocked. Maybe you reside around where we term "black spots"!!
You don't know Nigerian police. My younger brother was picked up in one of their random raids in Enugu. The boy was chilling in front of his house with neighbours when the police showed up, packed everyone and took them to cell. No crime was committed in that vicinity. Police just needed weekend money.
If your people have money they come and bail you. No money you stay in cell. When they are tired of you they take you to the back and kill you. That's the Nigerian police force for you.
