Arsenal have confirmed that manager Arsene Wenger will leave his role as Arsenal manager at the end of the season.

Wenger, who has come under increasing pressure as a result of Arsenal’s poor Premier League record in recent seasons, announced that he would be leaving the club in an emotional statement on the club’s official website.

Arsène Wenger has issued the following statement:

“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season.

“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.

“I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.

“I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special.

“I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high.

“To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club.

“My love and support for ever.”

Wenger was appointed as Arsenal manager in 1996 and has won three Premier League titles and a record seven FA Cups during his time in charge of the club. A European trophy has always eluded him but Arsenal are in the semi-finals of the Europa League, where they face Atletico Madrid.



The Frenchman joined Arsenal after a spell with Grampus Eight in Japan and set about revolutionising Arsenal, and English football, with new coaching and preparatory approaches, allied with a highly successful scouting and recruitment strategy, which propelled Arsenal to the double in 1997-98.





Two more league titles followed, including one unbeaten in 2003-04, but a lean decade following the move to Emirates Stadium left fans frustrated. Three FA Cups in four years between 2014 and 2017 helped to stave off some criticism but underperformance in the Premier League saw his authority come into question.

Majority club owner Stan Kroenke said: “This is one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport. One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsène has brought to the club on and off the pitch. His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched.



“Arsène has unparalleled class and we will always be grateful to him. Everyone who loves Arsenal and everyone who loves football owes him a debt of gratitude. Three Premier League titles, including an entire season unbeaten, seven FA Cup triumphs and 20 successive years in the Champions League is an exceptional record. He has also transformed the identity of our club and of English football with his vision for how the game can be played.



“We have high ambitions to build on Arsène’s remarkable tenure and to honour his vision by ensuring that Arsenal competes for and wins the biggest and most important prizes in the game.



“We must now focus on making a strong finish to the season and ask our millions of fans around the world to join us in paying appropriate tribute to one of the greats of Arsenal’s history and one of the greats of the game.”

Arsène will lead the team to the end of the season and we will make an appointment as soon as possible. The club will not be making any further comment on the selection process until an appointment is made.

NEWS TORTURED! Home help loses her reproductive system after her boss inserted sticks in her private part

The reproductive system of a 12-year-old home help, Faith Nwanja, has reportedly been damaged after her mistress, Mrs Nkechi Bartholomew, inserted sticks inside her private part while torturing her for being too stubborn.

The incident which happened in Ebonyi state, was made known on Tuesday, by the Head of Department, Child Development of the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Godwin Igwe.

He said Mrs Bartholomew who is a childless woman and seamstress who adopted the young girl when she was eight-years-old and took her to Onitsha, Anambra State to learn trade.

Igwe said the woman while torturing the girl, inserted sticks inside her private part, a development that had caused serious damage to her reproductive system.

He said the victim which has scars and injuries all over her body also lost one of her hands, noting that her health condition has worsened.

He said,

“The child has been undergoing medical examination by team of expert gynaecologists, a team of orthopaedic doctors, a team of expert opmologists because of serious harm inflicted on her reproductive system, her hand, her ear, her teeth all over her body.

“Last week, her medical examination was concluded and the hospital management said the report will be released to the police as soon as it is demanded.”

Meanwhile, Igwe has accused the state police command of refusing to arraign the suspect.

President Muhammadu Buhari says a lot.of Nigerian youths just want to sit down and do nothing, banking on the notion that Nigerian is an oil-rich nation.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, Uk, the president said a lot of Nigerian youths have not been to school at any level and they want everything free.

“About the economy, we have a very young population, our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. This is a very conservative one,” Buhari said.

“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education for free.”

There was a mild drama at the senate on Wednesday after Ovie Omo-Agege, suspended senator from Delta state, stormed the senate with suspected thugs, carting away the mace. .
He was said to have sneaked in through one of the glass barricades within the national assembly before the mace was seized with the support of the men who accompanied him.
Security operatives ran to the senator and the “thugs” to get hold of the mace but were unsuccessful.



There is a serious uproar within the national assembly at the moment.



Shortly after the sitting has commenced, Ike Ekweremadu, depute senate president, raised an alarm that some persons had invaded the senate.



The light also went off amid the confusion but was restored shortly after



Security operatives then ran towards where the mace was kept but the senator and those he had came with had already lifted the instrument.

Amid the uproar, they overpowered the national assembly security and ran outside into waiting vehicles numbering three, including two jeeps.

They immediately drove away and were said to have left through the gate behind the national assembly

It is still unclear how the senator made his way into the chambers despite being suspended but TheCable learnt he was permitted entrance by the seargent-at-arms at the entrance door.TheCable also learnt that the clerk of the national assembly has summoned the divisional police officer to explain how the senator made his way into the chambers.

Today, some armed hoodlums led by suspended Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, walked into the Senate plenary and seized the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber, the mace.

This action is an act of treason, as it is an attempt to overthrow a branch of the Federal Government of Nigeria by force, and it must be treated as such. All Security agencies must stand on the side of due process and immediately mobilize their personnel to retrieve the mace and apprehend the mastermind and the perpetrators of this act.

This action is also an affront on the legislature, and the Leadership of the House has come to express their support against this action.

The Senate is now in an Executive session.An updated statement will be released immediately after the closed door session.

Nadinne Bruna, 32, wanted light grey eyes instead of hazel, but ended up losing 80 per cent of her vision in her right eye and 50 per cent in her left eye.

She lives in Miami but flew to Colombia for the surgery as it is not approved in the US.

It cost around $3,000 to have silicone implants inserted into her eyes, a discounted price offered on the condition that she posted about it on social media.

But Argentinian model Nadinne immediately began experiencing serious problems.

Nadinne claims her vision was constantly blurry as a result of the pressure placed on her optic nerve by the implant and her eyes were red and painful for months.



She returned to Colombia in March and June 2017 for two further procedures to attempt to repair the damage but was forced to seek medical attention at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.



Ophthalmologist Dr Ranya Habash led a team of medics to remove the dangerous implants in September and Nadinne underwent emergency sight-saving surgery to treat glaucoma in November.



As a result, the model has lost 80 per cent of vision in her right eye and 50 per cent in her left eye, and will have to deal with the consequences of the surgery for the rest of her life.

Nadinne and her twin sister Danna have forged a career on Instagram, where they share images of the cosmetic procedures they have undergone.



The twins regularly have their surgeries compensated and are often paid to feature medical practices on their accounts which have more than one million combined followers.

Nadinne said: ‘Before this surgery my eyes were completely healthy. I was so naïve.



‘Ever since this surgery I have had blurry vision. For about a year my eyes were constantly red and itchy.



‘My pupils, they can’t adjust to light anymore so I’m very photosensitive now too.



‘This surgery completely f***ed up my life.

‘After this surgery I went into a deep depression. I’m a very strong person, usually very brave and very smart, but with this I was completely stupid. I trusted the wrong pebrave

MAINZ’s Bundesliga clash with Freiburg has been thrown into chaos tonight after a freak VAR decision DURING half time – and then a massive fan protest.

Mainz was given a penalty about five minutes after the ref has blown for half-time!
Mainz had penalty appeal for handball denied them just seconds before the halftime whistle, with the scores locked at 0-0.



Both sets of players went off the field for the break – only to be called back on following a VAR decision.

It has emerged the video referee spotted a handball from a corner in the dying stages of the first half – but the decision was only given after the whistle.

The Freiburg players had to be called out of their dressing room and back onto the pitch so Mainz could take their penalty.

Only then – seven minutes into first-half stoppage time – was the spot-kick taken and then the whistle blown for the break.

Chief Uche Ogar, a former governorship candidate under the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State said that Igbos will benefit more than any other ethnic group under President Muhammadu Buhari if he emerges in 2019.

Ogar told said in Enugu on Saturday that the president had revived some projects abandoned by the immediate past administration (Goodluck Jonathan) in the South East zone.

According to him, President Buhari’s declaration for presidency in 2019 is good news especially for Igbos and They should be very happy about it.

“What he has done in the South East zone is quite remarkable despite the fact that we did not support him or never wanted him in 2015.

“He gave us substantive ministers, Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressways are all under construction including the 2nd Niger Bridge in Onitsha.

“Most importantly, his emergence will give the zone the opportunity to produce the President in 2023,” he said.

Ogar urged people of the Enugu to support the president’s intention and vote for him massively when the time comes.

On plans to rerun in 2019, the political chieftain said he had not made up his mind adding that he would speak at the appropriate time.

Ogar, who was in Enugu to attend the 43rd Annual Synod of the Methodist Church Nigeria, preached for peace in families and the country at large.

Speaking on the theme of the synod, `Strive for Peace and Holiness’, the business magnate noted that the world presently was in crisis as nowhere on earth was safe ‘ he said.

“We hear constantly about wars and rumours of war around the world. Our world is in trouble and the United Nations as a body is helpless in the face of it all.

“I believe it will require reconciliation between man and his maker to bring or enthrone peace on earth.

Reality television star Khloe Kardashian gave birth to her first child on Thursday, according to U.S. media reports, after years of documenting her fertility struggles on her family’s U.S. television show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.”



Celebrity website TMZ, television show Entertainment Tonight and the New York Post’s Page Six column reported that Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl in a hospital outside Cleveland, Ohio, early on Thursday morning.



Kardashian’s representatives did not immediately return a request for comment.

The baby girl is the third child born into the reality television family this year following older sister Kim Kardashian’s daughter Chicago in January, by a surrogate, and younger half-sister Kylie Jenner’s daughter Stormi with rapper Travis Scott in February.



Kardashian, 33, who has documented her pregnancy on Instagram where she has more than 74 million followers, announced in December that she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Tristan Thompson, who plays basketball for the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.



Kardashian gave birth days after multiple media reports that Thompson had been caught on video kissing other women as recently as a few days ago, and also last autumn.



Neither Kardashian nor Thompson have commented on those reports.

In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound.”



But the room isn’t just for torturing people. Companies test their products in it to find out just how loud they are. And NASA has sent astronauts to help them adapt to the silence of space. For you and me, however, the room is a deeply disorienting place. Not only do people hear their heartbeat, they have trouble orienting themselves and even standing. “How you orient yourself is through sounds you hear when you walk. In the anechnoic chamber, you don’t have any cues,” Orfield told the Daily Mail. “You take away the perceptual cues that allow you to balance and manoeuvre. If you’re in there for half an hour, you have to be in a chair.”

They also state the services they are willing to provide.

According to a report on People’s Daily online, rental princes are up to 60 yuan (£7.13) per hour or 1,500 yuan (£178) per day.

Some male candidates offer free service as they say to have no one to spend the holidays or weekend with anyway.

The list of services are flexible and are mainly decided by the men alone.

They can include meeting the parents, having dinners with them, watching films, kissing and spending the night.

Some men require the women to pay for all the expenses, including the train tickets , meals and drinks.

To attract more customers, some candidates offer what they call a ‘green lease’ , which is an agreement signed by both parties to make sure there are no grey-areas or violation of rules.

‘Green lease’ holders are not allowed to sleep with the woman in the same room.

The Chinese tradition often see marriage in a very high priority and single women aged 27 and over are considered as Shengnu, the ‘leftover women’.

Some Chinese single men see that as a chance to earn quick money and rent themselves out to the desperate women and soon it becomes a trend.

Single women also see it as a way to stop their parents pestering them about their love life and pressuring them to have babies.

The Blues boss has been angry all season with speculation linking him with leaving Stamford Bridge, as he once again debunk the latest rumours.

The Commander of the United States’ Special Operations Command Africa, Maj. Gen. Marcus Hicks has described Boko Haram as the most lethal terror organisation in the world despite claims by the federal government that the extremist group had been significantly degraded and technically defeated which seems like a lie.

There issue of Boko Haram’s power came up at a press briefing held in the US on Thursday on anti-terror efforts of the US government and made available to THISDAY yesterday by the US embassy.

The military commander spoke on US efforts to reinforce development, diplomacy, and defence, including the Flintlock, an annual exercise in Africa, and noted that the US had shifted its focus of training from tactical proficiency of small units to command and control of joint forces in Africa



“Likewise, we have participants from the Multinational Joint Headquarters in N’Djamena that address the threats of ISIS West Africa, which is really in North-eastern Nigeria, and Boko Haram, its predecessor….which is the most lethal terrorist organisation in the world, in Lake Chad,” General Hicks remarked.



When asked why Nigeria and other African nations are so important to the US, the American Ambassador to Niger, Eric Whitaker, at the conference said: “I think Africa is important to US’ national security for a variety of reasons. We have a long, historic relationship with the African continent and its 54 countries, keeping in mind that no less than 13 per cent of our US population derives from the mother continent. Africa, a continent of over 1 billion residents, is a continent with which we have important relationships, whether it’s in diplomacy, development, or defence for several decades now.

“We wish to expand trade with these countries, including through the AGOA, the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act, to help countries develop their economies through trade and Security. We also have humanitarian assistance to help countries who have food insecurity situations, for example.”

Hicks added that the training focused on members of the G5 Sahel and the Multinational Joint Task Force, around Lake Chad with eye on Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa.

Speaking further, he said: “We hope and plan to exercise command and control over tactical units at the joint multinational headquarters, which will be located in Agadez, and this will be the first year that Flintlock’s training audience will actually exercise command and control over tactical units in a scenario.

“The scenarios will be based on real-world threats of the violent extremist organisations currently threatening our partner nations in the greater Sahel…. We also believe in the D3 approach, and as we bring a defence aspect to enable diplomacy and development, we also bring in training our African partners in military information support operations in order to counter the extremist messaging and to promote defection from extremist organisations.” Let’s all hope Book haram are fully defeated and prosecution he added

NEW YORK CITY — In handcuffs, UFC superstar Conor McGregor stepped in front of a judge on Friday afternoon in Brooklyn.

The Irishman had a hearing on Friday afternoon at the Kings County Criminal Court. Heading into the hearing, the 29-year-old McGregor faced three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief due to his UFC 223 bus attack on Thursday.

The judge issued an order of protection in favor of Michael Chiesa, Ozzy Arias, Ray Borg, Ricardo Chico on both Conor McGregor and his SBG teammate Cian Cowley, who was also involved in the attack.

The judge also set a $50,000 bail on Conor McGregor and a $25,000 bail on Cowley. Both fighters will be allowed to travel. McGregor’s next hearing is set for June 14.

The news comes after McGregor and his entourage, composed of 15 to 20 people according to several reports, attacked a bus at the garage of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn with metal barriers, chairs, trash cans and other objects on Thursday afternoon.

The bus was transporting several athletes from the UFC 223 media day back to the fighters’ hotel. Although the attack targeted top UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov, several of the UFC 223 competitors on the bus were affected. Shattered glass from a broken window caused Chiesa to suffer cuts on his face. Borg also suffered corneal abrasions after shards of glass went in his eyes.

Both Chiesa and Borg were withdrawn from their respective UFC 223 bouts, as they weren’t medically cleared to compete on Saturday night.

Following the incident at the Barclays Center, “The Notorious” turned himself into police custody on Thursday night.

While McGregor’s legal issues were addressed by the Kings County Criminal Court, McGregor’s future in the UFC and the sport of MMA remains to be seen. UFC president Dana White called the Irishman’s attack the most “disgusting” thing he’s ever seen in the company’s history. The MMA promotion has yet to sanction or punish the former two-division world champion for his antics in Brooklyn.

A South Korean court on Friday sentenced former President Park Geun Hye to 24 years imprisonment for corruption, Straitstimes reports.

Hye was found guilty on multiple criminal charges, including bribery and abuse of power after a trial that lasted more than 10 months.

Judge Kim Se Yoon ruled that the convict colluded with her long-time confidante, Choi Soon Sil, to receive tens of billions won from major conglomerates like; Samsung; the world’s top smartphone maker and retail giant Lotte to help Choi’s family as well as fund a non-profit foundation owned by her.

Judge Kim Se Yoon said,

“The amount of bribery the accused received or demanded in collaboration with Choi amounts to more than 23 billion won (S$28.6 million). I sentence the accused to 24 years in prison and 18 billion won in fines.”

“The President abused the power which was given to her by the citizens,” the judge said, adding a tough sentence was needed to send a firm message to the country’s future leaders.”

The 66-year-old Hye, who is the daughter of a former dictator, was ousted from power in March 2017 following months of street protests.

She was the country’s first woman leader but later became a figure of public fury and ridicule after she was arrested and kept in police custody for almost a year over corruption scandal that exposed shady links between big business and politics.

Now, if you don’t know the story about Sir Isaac Newton’s apple tree and his theory on gravity, we’ll lay it out quickly for you here. In the late summer of 1666, Newton reportedly saw an apple fall from a tree. There are a few rumors that it struck him on the head, but there’s no firm evidence of which to go by on that specific claim.



The falling of the apple from the tree spurned his interest in what makes things fall to the ground. What this magical property is, and why it’s relatively easy to break it, even if momentarily, such as jumping or throwing items into the air. This single moment in scientific history became one of the most defining moments, ranking up there with Albert Einstein and his theories and those of Charles Darwin. It was a cornerstone of science as we know it today.



Anyway, back to our original fact that Sir Isaac Newton’s apple tree is still growing today. This incident happened way back in 1666. That’s an incredible 350 years ago. Now, we know that trees can grow for a very long time, but this is pretty mind-boggling. That tree would not have been a mere sapling at the time, it would have been at the very least a decade old. That would make it even closer to the four hundred year old mark than before. EVen more remarkably, it’s still bearing fruit to this very day, and is regularly pruned to keep it healthy.

How do we know that tree is the one that inspired him? Alas, at the time there was but only one apple tree growing in his garden, so it was not hard to spot, and it’s still growing in the very same spot today.

There are some interesting and some quite weird laws around the world. For example, trying to break out of prison is actually not illegal in Germany or Austria. This may seem strange but the authorities in these two countries consider it “basic human instinct” for an imprisoned person to seek their own freedom. This law was introduced back in 1880.

This legal fact means that a prisoner in one of these two countries will not be punished if they get caught while trying to escape from incarceration. Of course, this doesn’t mean that if a prisoner is caught trying to escape from jail the guards would just let them go. In fact, in those two countries it is punishable to assist someone in escaping from prison. A person caught helping a prisoner plan and perform their escape can be sentenced to up to 5 years in jail.

Prison outbreaks and other offences by prisoners in Germany and Austria do not go by unpunished either. So, even though trying to escape may go unpunished, this doesn’t mean that there is a tide of escaped prisoners in these two European countries.

The Lagos state ministry of environment says it has reached an agreement with private sector participant (PSP) operators which will see the latter return as waste collectors.

According to a statement released on its Twitter page on Thursday, Visionscape Sanitation will now oversee waste management infrastructural reforms.

“Following the previous fallout between PSP operators and the Lagos state government over the reshuffling of residential waste collection responsibilities under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative, a progressive consensus has now been reached between both parties,” the statement read.

“This new development contains an agreement which will see PSP operators, now referred to as waste collection operators under the scheme, return to their former role as residential waste collectors, while Visionscape oversees waste management infrastructural reforms in the state.”

Oladipo Egbeyemi, chairman of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAM), said Lagos state residents should expect an uplift in the city’s waste management system with the official resumption of door-to-door residential waste collection by the PSPs.

The ministry said Visionscape has refurbished three dilapidated transfer loading stations previously managed by LAWMA in Simpson, Agege, and Oshodi.

It also said the company is working on completing an engineered sanitary landfill in Epe, which will serve as an alternative to Olusosun dumpsite, which was shut down by the state government after a fire outbreak.

The Kaduna State Government says it will need up to $65.5 billion dollars to address the state’s infrastructure challenges over the next 30 years.

Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i stated this on Wednesday at the unveiling of the infrastructure master plan, 2018-2050, during the 3rd edition of the state investment forum in Kaduna.

He stressed that the long term infrastructure master plan summarised the infrastructure target of the state aimed at providing job opportunities and making lives better for the people.

“The breakdown of the future infrastructural developments between now to 2050, include, the transportation sector which would require N8 trillion while N5.1 billion would be required annually in the education sector to build about 9,006 schools including tertiary institutions.

“Other sectors include, the health system which would require N158 billion, while N100 billion yearly is targeted for the water sector; agriculture would require N53 billion, and 5,000 housing units would be developed annually all within the time frame of 2018-2050,’’ the governor said.

According to him, the administration had attracted investments into the state in the last two years, with 79 percent coming from outside the country.

“Due to the low percentage of domestic investment, we have decided to focus more on domestic investment, we need to attract businesses in Kaduna by providing skilled workforce,’’ he said.

According to the governor, “to encourage domestic investment in the state, government’s first priority is to build human capital by engaging in different activities where the young people are willing to be employed in businesses.’’

Mr. El-Rufa’i said that the government expects that some of the investments would bear fNigerian newsruits before the next edition of the summit.

He listed the investments to include Vilisco Textile Park, Arfa Dairy Farms and Ranches, Kaduna Automobile village, Green Economic Zone, Solar Power Project, Dangote-PAN Assembly Plant and others.

The governor later inaugurated the Springfield Mahindra tractor assembly plant in the state during which he assured prospective investors of his administration’s support in realising their investment target.

According to him, the state is being positioned to be an investors destination by providing an enabling environment.

He said that the tractor that would be assembled in the plant would not only empower farmers in the state but enable the state boost its food production.

“With this Kaduna state will be able to produce a lot of food. These tractors will go a long way in ensuring that we have more mechanised farming,’’ the governor said.

Mr. El-rufai said there were not more than 30,000 tractors in the whole of the country,

“What this plant will be producing will be more than 10 per cent of what is already in the country which means in a few years we will be able to double the figure,” he said

Earlier in his address, Tarun Das, Managing Director Springfield Mahindra tractor Assembly plant, said the plant was expected to produce 3000 tractors per annum

According to Mr. Das, 20 million U.S. Dollars had been invested in the project which would create 200 jobs when fully operational within the next two to three months.

Meanwhile, Gov. El-Rufai also performed groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of the Kaduna Hilton Hotel.

He said the hotel when completed would have 200 luxury rooms, conference rooms and be located along Muhammadu Buhari Way, Kaduna.

A 30-year-old banker, Chidi Agu, has been accused of drugging and impregnating a 13-year-old orphan in SSS Quarters, Jikwoyi, Abuja.



Agu was alleged to have taken advantage of the victim while his in-law, a pastor, whom the victim served as a maid, travelled out sometime in 2017.



A neighbour was reported to have observed the victim’s bulging stomach and called the attention of the pastor and his wife to it.

The victim was taken to a hospital where it was confirmed that she was five months’ pregnant.

The minor was interrogated, she alleged said that Agu was responsible for the pregnancy.

Her uncle, John Inyang, said he reported the case to the police at the Jikwoyi division, adding that he was shocked by the pastor’s family’s response to the incident.

He said his niece had been living with him since her parents died.

He said, “I was approached by a member of my church that the pastor’s wife needed someone to help her around the house. He asked me to give them my niece and promised to take care of her.



“I released her to the pastor and his family took care of her as they promised. But Chidi (Agu), who is the pastor’s wife’s brother, usually visited them. He started to take advantage of her whenever they travelled.



“The girl told me that each time Chidi gave her a drink, she would sleep off. By the time she woke up, she would see blood all over her private parts. She said she could not explain what happened to her until it happened the second time.





“She said when she asked Chidi if he did it, he threatened to deal with her if she told anyone. She said he also threatened to kill me and her. The girl was in fear and could not speak out. She is always indoors; they don’t allow her to go out.

This continued until she became pregnant. The girl said he even attempted to abort for her by giving her drugs which she refused to take.”



The uncle claimed that he had a meeting with the pastor’s family during which the victim recounted the story, which was not denied by Agu.



He said for the past one week, efforts to resolve the matter amicably with the family had been abortive, adding that the pastor and his wife asked him to take his niece back to her hometown in Akwa Ibom State.



Inyang said the family promised to send money into his bank account for her upkeep.



“But I refused the proposal. I told them that was not the way I took her to their house. I thought I could handle it alone, but when I saw their plan, I decided to bring in some more family members.



“We tried to reach some terms of settlements, but the pastor has refused to sign the agreement. He said the thing did not happen in his house and he cannot be a party to it. His wife also said she did not want anything that will tarnish their reputation. Meanwhile, I did not hand over the girl to Chidi. It was the pastor and his wife that took her from me,” he added.

He said he was aware that the suspect and his family had taken the victim to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, without his approval.



A resident, Samantha Joseph, said the suspect had also refused to pay N10,000 per month for the upkeep of the victim until she was delivered of the baby.



She explained that the victim, according to a scan result, was billed to be delivered of the baby between August and September.



“The problem is that the guy said he cannot pay the girl N10,000 per month for her upkeep because he cannot afford it,” she added.



A legal practitioner and human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, urged the police to arrest the suspect and charge the matter to court.



“The man should be arrested first. If there will be any settlement, let the court decide. It should not be a private arrangement,” he said.



When our correspondent contacted the suspect, he claimed to be in transit and promised to call back after reaching his destination.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told a former governor of Lagos State, Mr Bola Tinubu, that Nigerians have accepted its apology.



The party said this in a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, hours after the former governor called on Nigerian’s not to accept the apology of the party.

PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, had on Monday apologised to Nigerians for what he called that mistakes of the party prior to the 2015 general elections.



In his reaction at a colloquium, Tinubu, who is the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said, “Dear Nigerians, don’t take their (PDP) apology. They lied, they falsified for 16 years, they made fake promises.”



The PDP spokesman, however, cautioned the APC chieftain to stop playing god, saying Nigerians have the faculty and freedom to determine the leadership that best suit their desires.

He also advised him not to allow himself to be used a second time, claiming Tinubu still bears a gross part of the blame for the enthronement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Ologbondiyan noted further that rather than being a damage of the PDP, the remarks of the APC leader at the colloquium ended up amplifying an admittance of the failure of the present administration.



He said without listening to the prompting of any politician, Nigerians across have taken the liberty to accept PDP’s apology which was made patriotically in the overall interest of national healing, reconciliation, unity and cohesion.



The statement read, “The PDP watched with amusement as Asiwaju Tinubu struggled with words to appease President Buhari and give him assurances that he can win a second term election in the face of mass failure, both in governance and in their discredited, rejected and troubled platform.



“It was a direct admittance of failure and indictment on President Buhari’s administration, when Asiwaju pointedly told the President that the ship of the nation, under his (Buhari’s) watch, still needs to be rescued, almost three years down the line.



“It is tragic that Asiwaju had to tutor his visitor, who had no policy direction since his election in 2015, by engaging in a revision of the programmes and policies of the PDP, such as the leasing system, the mortgage and pension schemes which boosted the economy and directly impacted on the lives of Nigerians.”



Ahead of the general elections in 2019, the PDP maintained that the APC government is incompetent and lacks the ideas of how to move the nation forward.


While the party congratulates Tinubu on his birthday, it asked him to study the current atmosphere of Nigerian politics, stressing that Nigerians have since rejected the APC government.
