Political Cloning should be discouraged In Nigeria and Africa. If Cloning of politicians and celebrities are encouraged, it will lead to National disaster in countries and high level impersonations.

It will encouraged the assassination of politicians and celebrities: those who do such evils will have nothing to fear because they feel they can deceive the public by creating a clone of any assassinated politicians or celebrities. Political cloning refers to creating an identical politicians, celebrities and government workers of a country for conspiracy purpose, and for high risk level impersonation.

Taming menace of sexual abuse in schools:

There are claims that sexual abuse is on the rise in Nigeria. And these abuses also commonly happen in schools. Interestingly, these claims are supported with statistics. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in its report explained that one in four girls and one in 10 boys in Nigeria had experienced sexual violence before the age of 18. In addition, six out of 10 children in Nigeria experience emotional, physical or sexual abuse before the age of 18, with many experiencing physical violence.

Similarly, a survey by a non-governmental organisation, Positive Action for Treatment Access, indicated that over 31 per cent of girls in Nigeria reported that their first sexual encounter was rape or forced sex.

The media is awash with sordid tales of rape, abuse and harassment of pupils in both primary and secondary schools. One of the most popular cases was that of 11-year-old boy, allegedly molested by fellow students at Deeper Life High School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The centre where the boy was taken for medical examination said it had treated 10 sexually abused boys in the last three years.


Two years ago, a teacher at the FCT School for the Blind, Abuja, was suspended indefinitely for habitually raping two visually impaired students. Reports said the teacher drugged the students and lure them to a hotel before perpetuating the dastardly act.

Also, in February last year, Ekiti State Government dismissed three public secondary school teachers for sexually harassing their female students. The State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) said the board dismissed the erring teachers for sexual molestation and bringing the state into disrepute.

Earlier, Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools Board also suspended the principal of Comprehensive Secondary School, Ngo, for having canal knowledge of a 17-year-old female student of the school.

A group, Cece Yara Foundation, in one of its reports, said in a quarter, the group received 1,437 calls from their child helpline, which culminated in 1,298 cases of abuse, with child abuse most prevalent. “Till date, 54 children have accessed justice through the foundation’s forensic interview model with more referrals from law enforcement agencies. The legal team has facilitated arrest of 136 suspects and filed 72 cases in court with two ending up in conviction.”

Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Olawale Fapohunda, had decried the high prevalence of sexual offences in the state. Fapohunda said of the 273 criminal cases filed in Ekiti State between January 2019 and March 2021, 59 were sexually related offences, which cover 21 per cent of the total cases filed as against 12 per cent of same between 2016 and 2018. He suggested urgent need to fast-track prosecution of sexual offenders.

Worried by the alarming rate of abuse, molestation, harassment and defilement of pupils, government has vowed to prosecute teachers involved and get their unions to ensure they do not condone or abet these crimes. Currently, Fapohunda said the state government was investigating over 45 of such cases.

In Ogun State, a private secondary school teacher, Mathew Adebayo, was arrested on September 2020 by men of the Ogun State Police Command for forcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 15-year-old student of the school.


The spokesman of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the teacher was arrested following a report that he raped her repeatedly.

Similarly, in Katsina State, the state police command arraigned Hamisu Galadima, an alleged randy primary school teacher, before a senior magistrate court for having carnal knowledge of teenage girls in Faskari council of the state. The police prosecutor, ASP Hashimu Musa, said the suspect was picked up following complaints by victims’ parents.

But the situation is not limited to basic and secondary schools alone, Recently in Bayelsa State, the first female first-class law graduate of Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Ebizi Eradiri, claimed that some randy lecturers almost scuttled her ambition of making first class.

Eradiri, who repeated the same first-class feat at the Nigerian Law School, during a homecoming reception, said the lowest grade she had during her university days was a ‘C’, which was awarded to her by a lecturer who insisted on having sexual intercourse with her.

Also, in March this year, a lecturer in the Department of Business Management at the Covenant University, Ota, Dr Stephen Ukenna, was apprehended by the police in Ogun State, for forcefully having carnal knowledge of a 17-year old student of the school.

The 41-year-old lecturer was arrested following complaints by parents of the victim that their daughter was molested by one of her lecturers in his office.


Recently, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) dismissed two of its lecturers caught on tape, sexually molesting an undercover reporter who posed as 17-year-old admission seeker. Boniface Igbeneghu and Samuel Omoniyi Oladipo were exposed in the BBC Investigative Series, Africa Eye.

Speaking on what schools should do to protect students from sexual predators, Alumni Director, Grace School, Adesope Edun, said schools should conduct due diligence on teachers before employing them, so that if they have a history of being sexual offenders, they won’t be employed.

“School administrators must make sure that they keep an open-door policy to be able to listen to children should they have a teacher to report for behaving inappropriately to them,” he said.

To encourage students to speak out about abuse and sexual harassment, Edun said students must be made to understand that they should speak out when touched inappropriately.

“Students must be encouraged at all times to speak out once they notice such among their classmates. They should also be educated about their rights to learn in an environment free from sexual abuse and harassment and where such rights are infringed upon, schools must ensure that there are channels for students to air their grievances,” he said.

National Coordinator, Education Rights Campaign (ERC) Taiwo Soweto, said there should be a constituted body or control commission comprising elected students representatives and staff unions, where victims could report such abuses without fear of victimisation.

But the Dean, School of Transport, Lagos State University, Prof. Samuel Odewumi, said the best way to guarantee protection for students is to ensure that those apprehended are dealt with timely and firmly. He said once the randy folks become aware that they cannot get away with such atrocities, especially having seen the scapegoats, they would be deterred.


He said: “To encourage students to speak, there must be a reasonable assurance that they will get justice. This can be assured if there is a massive campaign on how to get and preserve evidence. Female students must be taught how to use their phone to collect watertight evidence. They should know how to record randy lecturer’s threats and intimidation and possibly take covert video evidence when they are cornered in a trap set up.

“In the extreme case of rape, they should be told not to rush to take their bath, which most of them will instinctively want to do. The semen evidence must be preserved by approaching the nearest hospital, police station or institution’s health centre. Once the DNA material is preserved, justice is firmly assured. Most of the cases where the survivors get justice are where evidence is preserved.”

An education consultant, Dr. Adewale Adeniyi, said indecent dressing encourage randy teachers to assault students. He said there are teachers that cannot suppress their carnal desires, thereby falling to their willful desires. He also cited ignorance on the part of teachers, saying some of them fail to grasp the implication of engaging in sexual abuse as they assume they will go scot-free without attracting any punishment.

He advised students to report randy teachers bent on sexually harassing them to appropriate quarters, while advocating capital punishment for randy teachers. He equally called on parents to educate their female children on how to dress decently and urged teachers to do same for students.

A Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Gender Mobile Initiative (GMI), said on Tuesday that 70 per cent of the female population in the country’s school system have experienced sexual harassment.


The Executive Director of GMI, Ms Omowumi Ogunrotimi, said this in Abuja at a summit on “Anti-Sexual Harassment in Educational Institutions,” co-convened by the group and the Independent Corrupt Practice and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

Ogunrotimi said the collaboration with the ICPC was based on its zero-tolerance to sexual harassment and ensuring government’s participation in achieving the desired systems change through policy engagement.


“Perhaps the recent statistics quoted by the World Bank Group on women, law and business on the prevalence of campus sexual harassment needs to be re-echoed for us to understand the urgency required in addressing sexual harassment,” she said.

Ogunrotimi said that the past few years witnessed a global reckoning for perpetrators of sexual harassment, especially by abusers who wield significant power over the abused.


She noted that more stakeholders were needed on the frontline to fight the scourge and stem the tide of sexual harassment in the country.

“That 70 per cent of female students experience sexual harassment is an affront to our shared humanity and values as individuals and as a nation.


“While Nigerian tertiary institutions have become the centre ports for power-driven gender-based violence and harassment, the challenge has not received the required corresponding level of attention.

“This spate of violence has been mainly attributed to lack of a comprehensive anti-sexual harassment policy, lack of confidentiality-driven reporting channels and poor institutional response,” Ogunrotimi said.


According to her, investigations by prominent media organisations including the BBC Sex for Grade’s documentary elevated conversations on a pragmatic policy framework that should address emerging issues bothering social relations and integrity grading system among others, in our schools.

“We are not oblivious of the complexities of the systemic challenge we seek to address; we have all been working to nip sexual harassment in the bud before now.

“We know that different organisations are addressing different aspects of the problem,” she added.

Reacting, the Chairman of ICPC, Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, said that the culture of silence out of fear of reprisal and stigmatisation had allowed sexual harassment to thrive in some quarters.

Owasanoye noted that with sensitisation and appropriate policy implementation things would gradually change.

“It is a deviation from the norm for an official of an institution to use his office or position to demand, receive, obtain or attempt to obtain any form of sexual gratification in order to execute his or her duties or as a reward for doing his or her duties.

“The ideal thing is for official duties to be done with integrity, good conscience and diligence without the expectation of any unlawful benefit, but it seems the reverse has almost become the norm.


“It has become quite common for teaching and non-teaching staff to demand or expect sexual gratification from their students to whom they are supposed to serve as parents,” he said.

Owasanoye explained that the purpose of the event was to brainstorm and review the draft documents which the Commission and Gender Mobile had drafted.


He expressed the hope that the documents would eventually be adopted as templates for educational institutions when drafting individual organisational sexual harassment policies.
Owasanoye said the Commission had done a lot in the area of prevention and prosecution of sexual harassment in the country.

“The Commission has carried out about seven training and re-training programmes for its officers in Operations, Prosecution and Education and Public Enlightenment Departments and the officers trained also conducted training for their colleagues.

“The Commission has also partnered with some CSOs to carry out training for students while the Education and Public Enlightenment Department has taken up the task of including talks on sexual harassment in its different engagements.”

The ICPC boss noted that the commission had received about 17 reports relating to sexual harassment with one conviction via plea bargain.

“One resulted in system study, as one criminal case was recently filed in court, while some other cases are still under investigation,” he said.

The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, promised that his ministry would ensure the distribution of the sexual harassment template to the concerned regulatory agencies in the country.

Adamu who was represented by Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, said that the ministry would ensure that teachers present the policy document to students at the end of each academic year.

He added that the purpose was for emphasis and assimilation as “each employee shall be given copies of workplace policy on sexual harassment.
“I must commend the ICPC and its partners on this programme for this laudable contribution to the education sector.
“The ministry on its part promises to ensure that the policy document when fully approved, will be implemented through the provision of the enabling environment and ensuring compliance,” Adamu said.

On his part, the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr Otive Igbuzor, enumerated some of the initiatives that the National Assembly had done in support of the war against sexual harassment.
According to him, the National Assembly through the deputy Senate President has worked on bills to tackle sexual harassment.

Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, the ICPC-FORD Project Consultant, while presenting the Anti-Harassment Policies for Education Institutions in Nigeria, urged state governments to create policies on sexual harassment and ensure adequate consequences were provided for offenders.

Atsenuwa noted that the value of education in the country would be greatly affected if sexual harassment persist.
She commended the ICPC for driving institutional based policies on sexual harassment.

Ikire, an ancient town, was founded by a prince from Ile-Ife
who was a renowned Elephant hunter. His name was Akinrere. Prince Akinrere sought the permission of his father, a Grandson of Oduduwa to undertake the adventure of founding a town and establishing a Kingdom over which he would reign as a King. As it was the tradition at the
time, Ifa Oracle was consulted before permission sought was granted.
Prince Akinrere later settled a few kilometers off old Ife/
Ibadan road. At the time, the place was called “ODI-AYAN-N-
NAGI” (Ayan, nnagi trench). This was because “Ayan-n-nagi Omo Oba nla” was the pet name given to prince Akinrere by the
admirers of His Ruggedness and Military prowess. Odi-Ayan-n-nagi is now called Oko Adesile.
On the day Akinrere fell a mysterious elephant, his wife
gave birth to a baby boy. The boy was named Olaberinjo. On
growing up, Olaberinjo took
after his father as a wonderful archer. He had the reputation of
killing elephants at a very tender age. He distinguished himself as a great hunter within a short time. He got married when he was of age.
Akinrere died on-the day Olaberinjo's wife gave birth to a baby boy who was later named KUJEMILAYO (Death deprived me
of joy) the gift of a baby boy was a thing of joy but the death of
one's father was a great sorrow. Kujemilayo also grew up to become a great elephant hunter.
Over the years, things had become very difficult for the inhabitants of Odi-Ayan-Nnagi owing to acute shortage of
water, Olaberinjo already well advanced in age, instructed his
son, Kuje, to intensify his search for water and this led him to
the bank of River osun where he settled with his children and people. The new settlement was known as IKIRE-OMI (Ikire by water side). The place is now called MOOSA and it lies within the vicinity of the present Ikire.
Kuje's children were Disamu, Oladekan, Olambeloye, and
Onsokan. These four Children consequently became the four
ruling families in Ikire. the current Oba Olatunde Falabi
Olambeloye III is from
Olambeloye family.
