Hello all, for those travelling with toddlers and grandmas, please remember to buy travel insurance for them... just in case, usually not very expensive, but saves a lot should it be required.

Only a few countries like saudi/Jordan/Pakistan/egypt and ghana I think get 5 year visa. Others get 10 years, others a year or even less. And some, like us 2 years.

He said he is in the UAE
I have a friend from Lebanon that is domiciled here and she got 5 years along side her husband and kids

[quote author=demiiii post=33848730][But i need to apply online first? Fill and post to the embassy.I am applying for a passport and not a visa.
Did you fill any form before going to the embassy
. Or you just walked into the embassy and filled the form

From the responses from Shelly I thought you were applying for a nigerian visa. Yes you need to apply first online, fill the nessesary documents and go to the embassy.

Exactly. To my knowledge Abu Dhabi citizens get 10years and not 5. He may be from another African country like Ghana. Ghanaians also get 5year visiting visas.

Hello All

please I need information abeg

all past, present and future Atlanta mamas, for US passport processing I read on the site that what is needed is two means of ID for both parents if issued outside the states

is this really the case as I only have international passport in my new surname. do I need to process this fake ass drivers license before leaving too or is there any way around it when I get there?

thanksss

This made absolute sense...one of the best things anyone has said to me,people are constantly talking if the negatives of relocation .

You don't need to start from scratch with your degrees.
All you need to do is get in touch with an accredited credential evaluation service and as the name implies they will help evaluate your degrees for higher education or employment purposes. You can then seat for MCAT,GMAT, LSAT, or GRE. I have friends who have successfully completed their Masters degree after having their naija ones evaluated and writing one of these exams. Another is working in a bank after her Degree in banking and finance was evaluated. She is now combining both work and a higher degree. So, my dear you definitely don't have to start from scratch if you don't want to.

The lifestyle and earning power of a nurse in the United States cannot even be compared to that of a Bank Mgr in Nigeria excluding stolen funds of course. Do we even realize how much taxes these people pay compared to the peanuts some pay back home? If we were made to pay for the real value of services in Nigeria the poverty rate would be close to 98%. Let's face the obvious...if Nigeria was better we would not be subjecting ourselves to Insults by overzealous CBP officers at POE. Until we are able to stem systemic corruption, build world class infrastructures and provide security for life and property Nigeria cannot be compared in anyway, shape or form with the United States with all her flaws. I would love to live in a country where my husband could change his flat tire on third mainland bridge without being robbed, kidnapped or shot.I hope with these few points of mine I have been able to convince you distinguished panelists that it naija we still can't call the police for an emergency but they are sure to be around when it's checkpoint time grin

Hi Moms, Moms to be and few papas in the house,

I have roughly 6 weeks to port, although i have started feeling home sick cause i have never been apart from my hubby and I am not traveling with my son (he will shuttle between my mom and my mother inlaw, he will be on holidas then).

My main question, I have since bought my PTA $4,000 @ N200 and I also have some other funds. In all I have a total of $6,975 in my dorm account. I plan to buy $25 to make it up to $7000 for POE. I dey fear to buy dollar a@ N222. Also I plan to pay my hospital bill using InterBank (Form A using Medical Travel Allowance) they exchange rate is about N197 - N200

1. Is $7,000 enough for POE?
2. I also plan to print my statement in my naira account and also go with both my VISA and Master cards
3. Has anyone paid their medical bills using Medical Travel Allowance? I plan using this oh, then open a BOA account and save my $7,000 also I plan to shop with my cards.

For those interested in the Medical Travel Allowance, the requirements are;
1. Duly completed Form A
2. Letter of reference from Specialist hospital in Nigeria
3. Ticket, Passport, Valid Visa (Travel documents)
4. Letter from Doctor overseas stating the cost of treatment and account number
5. Instruction letter to debit your account or a cheque.

Please note that the funds will be remitted to the Doctor or Hospitals account directly.

Please go easy on her grin. Not everyone know these things. 2 different people in the US took turns to convince me to drop the identity of my child for tax returns but i said [b]mba
. They promised to share the proceeds of the returns with me, imagine getting paid like $1000-$1500 on a child per annum. That is mouthwatering but I still said mba.

@OP.....This matter bothers on conscience and morality. The money your sister may promise to share with you will be paid with the sweat of tax paying americans. Dont reap where you didnt sow. Your child is not in the US and no one should claim returns on him or her. Cheers
[b][quote author=Tvegas post=33740806]

@Tvegas: God Bless you. When you dont know something you'll ask people. And everyone please everything is not illegal, ther are specific situations where you can claim your nephews and neices on your tax returns.

@OP: Everything you need to know is here http://www.irs.gov/publications/p501/ar02.html#en_US_2014_publink1000220868. Questions asked are; did the child live with your sister for up to 6 months, if not there are exemptions read details at the link above. Bottom line is has your sister in anyway FINANCIALLY contributed toward the upkeep of that child. If your answer is no I will not encourage to cheat the system as so many have done in the past.

God Bless

Yes she will pay her own bill not for the baby? As long a baby papa is a citizen and pay tax.The baby can be on medicaid. Mother needs to sort herself separate.
Medicaid is automatic even if the baby papa is bill gate or Obama. Medicaid is for children from 0-19 years. On your 19 birthday , Medicaid is over. Medicaid is free health care for children and it varies by states to state in USA
Medicaid is only a venom to people that are not citizen or residence because funds from Medicaid comes for our tax. So that makes a non-residence a cheat

Currently in Texas, the state give CHIp (children Heath insurance program) this is for low income parent, it will take care of both mother and baby during birth, this one is from the state. Medicaid is federal.

I beg to differ as well. If Medicaid was automatic why do we still have people filling for bankruptcy after having their kids stay in the NICU for months or why all the frustartions on Obamacare and it not being fair to some classes of people. Medicaid as i know it from someone who has done extensive research in 2 different states is that: If you are low income, yes you can file for Medicaid for your kids and at that time it is automatic. If not i wont be paying for insurance for my kids at my job and will use Medicaid for them and save me $ monthly. Everything you need is here: http://www.medicaid.gov/medicaid-chip-program-information/by-topics/eligibility/eligibility.html

So yes if your husband's income is within the income limits specified in the link above the child is eligible for medicaid. The mother however as you correctly stated is not eligible for any assistance unless she is able to adjust her status before childbirth, file for the health insurance and prove that her and her husbands joint income qualifies them for any state or federal health insurance programs.

God Bless!!

I really appreciate all your responses, I do not intend to relocate from Nigeria yet that's the reason I cherish my visiting visa so I can always travel. Just like someone said the insurance did not accept because I don't have social security no. (By usc I mean us citizen ) am just being careful because hubby wants me to relocate even though I still have the fear of the unknown reservation .can I take some cash to be on the safe side and let them know am paying the bills at the poe and avoid the question of my hubby being a usc or just tell them short vacation instead of child birth .Am making this personal enquiries for my selfish interest because I still have sentimental attachment to my Nigeria .

Have you considered that a child born to a USC abroad can obtain USC status. Not sure if your going was solely to get better healthcare or to make sure husband is there for the birthing or just to get the citizenship worked out. I know some people have indicated that if they birth in Nigeria they have company insurance that covers all costs in VERY good hospitals.

Info you need on acquiring status for a child born to a USC are here: http://travel.state.gov/content/travel/english/legal-considerations/us-citizenship-laws-policies/citizenship-child-born-abroad.html and http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/abroad/events-and-records/birth.html. Side note this will require you going to the embassy and filling paperwork since you are plannig on keeping your visitors visa that might be an issue. Cos you are going to report yourself :-)
