Really? He(They) insulted me first, so I should overlook them because they are men, right?.

I stated my opinion that i'm not scared of any man, rather they choose to descend on me instead of facing the topic. So, I should be scared of them or what? Men are equally not scared of any human likewise me. Any man that descends on me will get his own cup of bitter medicine.

On this thread so far, Chimamanda has both male and female supporters likewise El-nathan, so it's not related to feminism but "Madam and her boy". In school, if a Male or Female lecturer call me their girl, I won't get mad unlike someone i'm not related to. Chimamanda stated that anybody working in her workshop is equally her boy i.e she will still address her female worker anyhow. Whether she was condenscending or not is none of my business as she equally opined that he said it jokingly.

El-nathan could have sent her an E-mail stating his disastifaction instead of going to twitter ranting like a sissy. He used a cocoyam analogy for/on Adichie and she struck back.
I don't care about who's wrong.
They did insult you alright and that's not even really what my post to you is about, you started by hailing ms Adiche and saying you don't fear any man, you already made it about gender by using the term "man", acting like you are happy about the issue because it involves a man, this is basically what triggered the responses you got. I'm not saying you should be scared of men, it should be that you aren't scared of anyone, not only men.

Then you went further to write how your handbag is way better than them(men), that's totally uncalled for.

On Amanda and John, John is not a kid, it was a workshop and if you decide it's cool to be referred to as "one of my girls" by your lecturer, then that's your prerogative, it doesn't mean I should be cool with it, neither does it mean it's the standard way of referring to people under your tutelage, you can call it pride but that in itself is not a bad thing, as long as you don't hurt anyone with it, if she wasn't being proud in a bad way, she should have apologized and then also call john out on his analogy, instead of trying to justify her actions, she's coming across as someone who knows it all, however, while I agree that it would have been best, if Elnathan had contacted her privately, but then, she didn't say what she said privately, did she?

I don't quite get what you mean about not caring who is wrong, so I'm assuming you mean you aren't here to take sides, but that's exactly what you did, I stand to be corrected on that.

P.S, Feminism got involved because Adiche, is a feminist and wears it like a badge, therefore it comes up in many things related to her, more so cases like this

Oh, please stop grin.

Jargon can be a count, uncountable or plural noun. The rule states that if you are using a determiner directly with an uncountable noun, your determiner must be in the singular since ordinarily you cannot count an uncountable noun.

Jargon can also be a countable noun. I explained this earlier and even gave an example.
Provide a link to proove it like you did to the former.! grin

You keep saying Adichie's criticism of the Caine prize is petty and you are magisterial as to why: she is bitter because she failed to win it. And asked you without still receiving an answer: Is Caine prize winner Wainana also petty for criticizing the Caine Prize? And what do you say to those others beyond Adichie and Wainana who say the Caine prize is all about Africa Porn and nothing more? Are those critics also being petty?

You clearly have not understood me. Why would a writer think some works she has not seen are below those in her mailbox.

I can criticize the Caine Prize all I want but I shouldn't demean a work I have not even seen or a writer I have not even met because a Prize I don't like has shortlisted them. The Caine Prize doesn't have fixed judges so the stories are not always judged based on the taste of a set of judges all the time.

People have criticized the Prize but I am yet to see anyhow who took theirs this petty, demeaning works you have not seen or writers you don't even know.

I made that comment comparing what's synonymous with Chimamanda and I.

Oh, this is really tiring embarassed If one says the sun rises in the east, folks like you would still ask for links. Really, I didn't get some of the rules from Google. I got them from extensive studies.

If you really want to help yourself, search for how to use determiners with uncountable nouns.

You can also check up on JARGON and see what type of noun it is.

Very well then. Point made. But I insist that Adchie has a right to criticise any prize she deems fit without some base emotions being attached to it. Afterall Achebe also criticised the Nobel without the heavens falling. I do believe and repeat that the animus against Adichie by some folks just found an outlet for its expression through the Caine Prize/ African Hair/ My Boy/ Feminism etc brouhaha. Literary spats are nothing new and this is even welcome.

By the way, I earlier meant to type Africa Poverty Porn in relation to what some say is the predominant theme of the Caine Prize rather than African Porn.

El-Nathan John was my course mate in Uni. I dare say that given half the oppurtunity that Chimamanda was given, he is a far better writer than she could ever hope to be.

She should give it a rest.

I 1oo% agree with you. Elnathan is absolutely a master piece.
In future his works will surpass hers and his fame will make soyinka seem like an amateur.mark my words

Lots of people don't like that woman she is arrogant. You can detect even in the otne of the responses she's giving in the interview in question

Lol, the fact still remains that Nairaland men love bashing women without us retaliating.

Really? Now let this son of Mark school you:
`Infamous' means ` being popular for a negative trait'.

'Ubiquity' means `being profoundly sighted everywhere'.

Corruption is an infamous ubiquity amongst Nigerians. Being silly and making unintelligent comments is an infamous ubiquity amongst Nairaland females.

You see? You ended up as the butt of your own snide remarks.

It's so unfortunate that you don't see what's wrong , that said I will rather put it this way "Nigeria is infamous for its ubiquity in corrupt practices. "

Dude, you are doing a piss-poor job of defending your assertions. `Infamous' is an adjective while `ubiquity' is a noun- they go together.
We could go on and on but the fact still remains that you're clutching at straws - your argument is weak.

Seems what most of you seeing nothing wrong with how Chimamanda addressed John, are saying is, is that, it's okay to be condescending because someone wants something from you.

So because John expects her to help him, he should shred whatever pride he has and take whatever is thrown at him happily? While this is how it usually works, does that make it okay?

Yet feminism is all about equality? I'm learning a lot.
