It has nothing to do with the bible or superstition.
It is just an act of denying yourself some pleasure which you enjoy regularly (self mortification) to align your self with the suffering of Jesus on good friday. Some people abstain every Wednesday and Friday, some throughout lent. may just not be on good Friday alone. Some people abstain from alcohol or s.ex or some other activities which they enjoy.

OP.must you question everything? In this age of freedom of speech we should try and apply discretion and wisdom on how we exercise it. If eating meat today is not biblical will you institute a court action on the Mother Church? How does knowing the answer help you? Be guided!

Well I believe most of this dos and don'ts are man made traditions that have come to be accepted. Whatever denomination you belong to., try and follow their rules and regulations so far it does not contradict the Bible. If the rules contradict biblical principles then you are not expected to follow it
