Expecting attacks in the coming days. MNJTF, SF and air assets gearing up. This current state of weather is not helping.

I do not know about the ISR plan or offensive being planned at the theater command.

NAF SHOWCASES NEW RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT BREAKTHROUGHS AS AIR FORCE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GRADUATES 257 STUDENTS

The Nigerian Air Force has recorded more Research and Development (R&D) breakthroughs, which were showcased during the 47th convocation ceremony of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna yesterday, 27 July 2018. The projects included a prototype Oleo-Pneumatic Shock Absorber for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), an Automatic Solar Tracking System and a Rocket Launcher Circuit Test Box. Others were a prototype of Light Weight Helicopter, an Unmanned Hexacopter as well as the adaptation and installation of BO-105 Helicopter guns on the Bell 412 Helicopters recently handed over to the NAF by the Federal Government. The convocation ceremony also featured the award of diplomas and degree certificates to 257 graduating students comprising 102 NAF personnel, 2 Nigerian Army personnel, 3 Nigerian Navy personnel and 150 civilians.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Barrister Boss Mustapha, who was the Special Guest of Honour, was taken on a guided tour of the exhibition stand for the new R&D breakthroughs. During the tour, he was informed that the Oleo-Pneumatic Shock Absorber was designed and produced by AFIT students, using entirely locally sourced materials. The system has been comprehensively tested and would be used on UAVs that would be subsequently produced by the NAF. Furthermore, the Automatic Solar Tracker was designed by AFIT students to maximize the harvest of solar energy while the Rocket Launcher Circuit Test Box was developed to test continuity in rocket launchers in aid of maintenance activities on NAF’s fighter aircraft.

The SGF and other dignitaries were also briefed that an R&D Team from AFIT had also successfully weaponized the Bell 412 Helicopters by adapting the guns that were procured in the 1970s for the now de-commissioned BO-105 Helicopters. Two pods, comprising 2 guns each, have already been installed on one of the Bell 412 Helicopters and successfully test fired, both on the ground and in the air, thereby saving the nation considerable foreign exchange that would have otherwise been expended in purchasing and installing new guns. Another significant breakthrough on display was the multipurpose Unmanned Hexacopter, which was designed and constructed in-house by a team of AFIT staff and students led by Flight Lieutenant Nkemdilim Ofodile. The Hexacopter, which was again successfully demonstrated yesterday, is designed for both military and civilian applications such as aerial surveillance, mapping, policing operations and pipeline monitoring, among others.

Speaking during the ceremony, the SGF expressed delight with the giant strides made by the NAF in the areas of human capacity development and R&D. He commended the NAF leadership for the progress in AFIT, especially the synergy of effort between military and civilian institutions. He noted that this type of synergy exemplified one of the policies of President Muhammadu Buhari, which is to create indigenous technological capacity in the military and civilian spaces in Nigeria towards engendering joint research efforts. He noted that AFIT was well positioned to continue to provide a pool of qualified manpower that would ensure sustainability of the Nigeria Air project. He then charged the graduating students to aim to be globally competitive and gear up to conquer the world.
Earlier, while declaring the convocation ceremony open, the Chairman of the AFIT Governing Council and Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, specially thanked President Buhari, for assenting to the Bill, which effectively transformed AFIT to the status of a degree awarding university. He equally thanked the National Assembly for the passage of the Bill. He noted that there is the need for private sector participation with a view to mass producing the R&D products to enable the nation maximally benefit from NAF’s R&D efforts. In his welcome address, the AFIT Commandant, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Cletus Udeagulu, thanked the SGF for accepting to grace the occasion and also appreciated the CAS for being the focal point of support that had enabled the Institute to record such remarkable achievements. He further revealed that the Institute was poised to commence degree programmes with effect from the 2018/2019 Academic Session.

Heads of other academic institutions as well as the Executive Secretaries of the NUC and NBTE delivered goodwill messages during the ceremony while prizes were presented to the best graduating students in the various departments. The event also featured the ground-breaking ceremony of the Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar Way, which would serve as the new entrance to the Institute.

One of the soldiers who died in Boko Haram terrorists ambush yesterday.

He was killed when Boko Haram attacked soldiers of 156 Task Force Battalion under 29 Task Force Brigade on Friday 27 July 2018 in a clearance operation.Unfortunately they lost (6) Six soldiers while 18 others sustain serious injuries

May their souls rest in perfect peace.Death is an obstacle every body must cross. They fought  gallantly with the last drop of their blood.

Once more the NAF assets are expected to come in as the game changer. It is still painful that we signed a billion dollar deal for the A29s which will be delivered in three years. Who does that?

Arm a couple of light attack helicopters with GSh-6-23 guns (manned by gunners on both sides and pod),hand them over to the various regiments in the front. Lets see if this wont be a game changer. The war at this time of the year can only be won with lethal air asset support in the sky for the boys.

If i had that One billion dollar embarassed

My opinion, we in the northeast need to change our deployment status. You cant have 30 soldiers here and 15 around 10km away, etc. Military hardware are being expended that way.

Bokoharam comes for a unit of 15 soldiers who are armed with their hilux and riffle with AA guns. This is one of the reason why we have been taking huge casualty.

We need to adapt the tactics of securing areas and then allowing internal security to be incharge of the police, NSCDC and DSS. They have men with COIN qualification. We need to be able to respond with our own fire power when needed.

Imagine when you're under an attack and your IFV Is 50-70km away. Your t72 is 30km away. Bht operates with HUMINT so except we're going to track every single communication in the northeast and filter out the useless ones then we will do well in thwarting their plan.

I also have this same opinion too.
What I usually do then was moving across different locations where my men were when I am not rolling in the iron to beef off the numbers and also stay informed. this was dangerous as we kept encountering IEDs.
I also tell those around me to not always rely on official channels for intel alone, dress like the locals go into their means as well as other extras I can't say here.
God keep you buddy's safe and show no mercy.

It's high time the NPF MOPOL'S are deeply involved in these fight, the NSCDC are better trained and equipped.

For me I will advice the federal government to turn the NSCDC into a more modern force like the; NATIONAL GUARD. They will be responsible and be deployable units during natural disasters, internal criss like what we have in Zamfara,Jos and Kaduna etc and be a support unit to the army in wars/COIN.

Armed bandits have killed at least 42 people when they launched onslaught on 18 villages under Mashema, Kwashabawa and Birane districts of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Friday.

Sources said the death toll could be up to 100 as hundreds of people were declared missing.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that many villages were razed down by the attackers.

A witness who survived the attack, Lawwali Mashema, said thousands of residents displaced by the attack have fled to Zurmi town, some 50 kilometers away from their communities.

He said many other survivors are seeking refuge in Katsina state, while others in Niger Republic.

“Women, children and aged died on their way seeking refuge in Zurmi town while many others were seen in devastating condition,” he said.
Deputy governor of Zamfara State, Ibrahim Wakkala, in a visit to Zurmi town described the attack as barbaric.
Mr Wakkala, who represented the governor, vowed to take drastic action on the matter.
Chairman of the state Damage Assessment and Relief Committee, who is the speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, Sanusi Rikiji, called for improvement of security around the area.
Police spokesman in the state, Mohammed Shehu, did not answer DAILY NIGERIAN call.

I remember several years ago stating that a nation the size, complexity and importance of Nigeria would require at least a million man military given the prospective threath level in Africa. Somone, not unreasonabley, replied, "what are we going to feed them, Sand?" And I replied that we had better feed them Sand because we are going to need a military that large.

I fear even w/ 1m it wouldn't change much we need to spend much more in equipping our armed force. More APC, MRAPS, TANKS, AIRCRAFTS, HELI'S. More men w/o an increase in equipment would be a waste money. Besides there's a weakness on the side of the government to prosecute those behind the recent killings.

I am happy to be another SOMEONE to tell you your statement is UNREASONABLE

Go & check how countries the world over handled their terrorist/insurgent/bandit infiltration & influence, increasing Military numbers wasn't part of it. It may work in your fantasies but this is the real world

We had better maintain an efficient paramilitary force in the MOPOL & Civil defence

Intelligence agencies are stretched. I put a very huge blame on the department of state security services tho.

the problem with intelligence agency in Nigeria is that most intel equipments end up being deployed from Abuja to other states when needed. This gives them a very minimal capability. State HQs are acting as just operational staging ground. Deployment of a full spectrum SIGINT coverage of Nigeria by each state command is extremely needed for a safer Nigeria.
