We still have a lot of unsettled cases
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 4:13pm On Mar 16, 2007
The civil service only recognized Technical and Higher Technical Officers.
This Engineering Technologists is still strange to the civil service,
Technologists cannot go any further, and this places some kind of
disadvantage not only on the HND holders and COREN but on the country as
well.

HND holders ordinarily should have much more contributed to our development
and we feel that the COREN should review its policy with the presidential
directive.
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 4:15pm On Mar 16, 2007
It should be noted that HND holders studied in polytechnics not as a result
of academic incompetence, but owing largely to frustration (resulting from
continued delay in securing university admission) and sometimes on financial
grounds. In fact, HND holders are not in any way inferior to university
degree holders. At the primary and secondary school levels, the same lessons
are taught, and the same examinations are set for them.
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 4:26pm On Mar 16, 2007
Why pegging
HND holders progress? Even in the university, there is an institutional
organ called the congregation or the convocation, to be a member of the
congregation, you should be a graduate  (which is not a right of
Polytechnics graduate) and by the interpretation of the graduate, you have
to be a degree holder. Because of that in the appointment of, say the
Engineering personnel some  with HND who are very good with a n Msc degree
is sill regarded as inferior, can not be place in the position even with
COREN engineering Technologists Certificate, because if you do, you are no
more qualified to be a member of the congregation. So such things are there

hi folks,
I appreciate the position of all those that have contributed to this issue. It is known fact that descrimination is the order of the day if you have HND.
One thing is obvious,we (HND Graduates) have been proving them wrong by our assertions when on level plane field with our counterparts from the university.
Let us continue in this stride and i am sure the descrimination will be a thing of the past.
Please prove the worth of your certificate always.

Infact we are going to give government one last chance. If they fail to make to meet to the demands of polytechnics and polytechnic graduates, we will mobolize all poly graduates and poly staff to carryout a national demonstration and campaign for the closure of all polytechnics in nigeria. We will no longer need polytechnics again; let everybody go to university and get any degree he/she wants. Why should polytechnics exist in nigeria when they are of no significance??

Let call all HND holder to join us giving thanks to Nairaland. we are able to educate Nigerian on the issue.

Education: Task before Yar’Adua
By Sulaimon Olanrewaju
http://www.tribune.com.ng/05062007/edu.html

Goodluck and Yar'Adua President Umar Yar’Adua is coming into office at a critical time in the history of education in Nigeria.
The previous administration commenced a reform programme that was not fully fine tuned before the expiration of its tenure.
Lecturers and students in polytechnics and colleges of education are unsure of their fate because of the reform programme, which called for the merging of some of them with universities.
It is still unclear which of the polytechnics and the colleges will be merged with universities and which ones will stay on their own.

Parents of primary school children are uncertain whether their wards will spend six years at that level of education or have a stretch of nine years as recommended by the immediate past administration. Since March 14, university students have been out of school because members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been on strike. It still in the air when academic work will resume in the universities as ASUU is adamant that the strike will continue until its demands are met by the government. Similarly, the nation’s universities lack the basic facilities that promote learning. For this reason, none of the 81 universities was able to make the list of the best 1,000 universities in the world.

@Hnd-holder
Poly students are even more confused now because they don't even know whether polytechnics still exist in the country or if they've been completely turned into universities as proposed by the former Education Minister. Those with ND do not know whether they are to buy D.E. forms for 200 levels into universities that are still on strike, or to wait for the Polytechnics to start selling abolished HND forms or proposed BTech forms. What is their fate please??

When will this HND vs Bsc issue be settled even when it is known that HND holders do better in their various fields??
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 7:49am On Jul 05, 2007
If ASUP want it ended.

The consolidation has come to stay anyway. HND=Degree by policy, so let them say.----

Has it been documented?? When??
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 8:19am On Jul 10, 2007
Officialy documented. Confirmed QED.

But Engineering Technology is not the same as Engineering.

Accountancy is not the same as Accounting

Polytechnics are not the same as university
ASUP ( Some with a PASS grade in university) not the same as ASUU ( PhD/Prof)

These are the facts
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by zebra(m): 2:10pm On Sep 08, 2007
When will polytechnic HND graduates start smiling in Nigeria?? I just hope Yar'adua will look into this isue of discrimination against holders of HND certificate in Nigeria.
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 9:07am On Sep 10, 2007
Please note that the degree holders who are bureaucrats want the HND to stay at all cost. Because they have the feeling that it is a grade for the NON well to do.

Do not go to polytechnic we now have more university.
if you go to polytechnic you will blame yourself

HND holder will never enjoy if all the facts i have now are true
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by zebra(m): 11:48am On Sep 10, 2007
@HND-holder

What facts do u have?? Tell us please!!
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 1:04pm On Sep 10, 2007
From: VIEWS & COMMENTS OF FG ON THE COMMISSION FOR THE REVIEW OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN NIGERIA.

Pg 6
section 4.0
says "Polytechnic should concentrate on the traing of middle level manpower for direct employment in industry as a support for university high level manpower.
The fact that some other countries provide the facility for the award of degreeis not reason for nigeria to review the polytechnic programm"
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by zebra(m): 9:24am On Sep 11, 2007
if that is what they want polytechnics to be doing (i.e. producing middle-level manpower), then they should stop polytechnics from going ahead to do HND after the ND program. Let HND be stopped then.
Re: B. Sc. vs HND: An Unsettled Case? by Hndholder(m): 9:37am On Sep 11, 2007
They said there will be a GAP so they want the HND to stay as their slave.
Engr Ezeh President Nigeria Society of Engineers want HND to stay as slave to Degree holders through the message he sent Via Engr Olusegun Adebisi MD Briscoe motors to Ilaro poly recently.

NSE July 2007 News letter.
