The love of my life asked me to marry him on the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. It was an 8-mile hike up 5,000 vertical ft -- by the time we got to.the top I was so overwhelmed, exhausted and ecstatic we had made it! We walked to.the "diving board" to get a photo, and he
got down on one knee! I was completely surprised and his brother was there to snap the perfect picture. A moment I will never forget.




‘Our story begins in April 2013 when we went on
vacation to visit my best friend Ann in the small
Caribbean island of Dominica. Ann (aka soon to be Matron of Honor) and her husband Jay have been living there for a couple of years while he is attending medical school. Sunday we drove through the rainforest and hiked up 45 minutes through Middleham Forest. It was pouring
rain the whole entire hike up and we were all soaked to the bone!! The scenery and the sounds of the birds in the forest were incredible.
We finally reached the top of the hike, a perfect view of Middleham Falls. I handed Ann my camera and asked her to take a picture of Sergio and I. As soon as she snapped the picture, Sergio turned me around to.face him. He looked me straight in the eyes and said,.“It’s been a journey to get here and I want to.continue this journey with you, I love you”. He then.got down on his knee, pulled out a ring, and asked me.to spend the rest of my life with him. I was so amazingly shocked! I had no idea he had even bought
a ring, let alone thought that he would have left the
country with it.

▶ From the slums to Cinderella: Teenage girls from Rio's favelas attend their very own debutante ball.
Eleven girls from one of Brazil's poorest favelas were treated to a debutante ball organised by local police and a team of volunteers.
The girls were given makeovers and dressed up in gowns that were loaned to them from nearby shops to provide a fairytale evening.

Emotional: Two young women embrace after arriving at the venue for their debutante ball, put on by local police who are hoping to rebuild trust in communities and break up gangs who had taken control.

Some of the girls are reduced to teas after arriving at an upmarket tennis club in Rio that volunteered its premises for their ball.


Many of these girls' families will survive on $30 or less a week, meaning even a modest party is far beyond their reach.

This favela used to be run by a brutal drug cartel, with the police occasionally raiding their stongholds before retreating. Now a local force lives and works there 24/7, and helps to organise events such as this one.


Girls sit around in a nearby hotel while a team of volunteers help them into their dresses and do their hair and makeup for them.
