Wole Soyinka!
Dis is not an "English Proficiency" thread. if it was, u wouldn't even make it.

Lame excuse. When you go about daily life is it a sanity test? DO you need a sanity test before you act sanely? There is no way you would cause me any bother in any test either of English or any other language.
The reality is you do not come across as a "graduate" and so should not sneer at any offer of a cleaning job that you may get.

The cleaner at an oil firm, if smart, will be learning and observing and NETWORKING. Most jobs come through networking. So the cleaner at the oil firm has better career prospects if he/she works it right.
you nailed it my brother, with enough capital u can set up ur own cleaning company and employ people and with the right connections u will have your own clients.

The problem is being a graduate especially from a Nigerian university has zero value most of the time .

Look at your grammar e.g "As a graduate........

What kind of sentence starts like that. You are a typical example , poor English and a strong sense that having a bogus certificate entitles you to a life of Riley

Lol, obviously you're one of those ingratiated with the grammatical myth that conjunctions shouldn't begin sentences. Well, this probably would have been true decades back, but definitely not in recent times. There are myriads of erudite and professional articles where conjunctions have been used to begin sentences. An example of such usage can be found in the Newyorktimes article below.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/01/magazine/purvi-patel-could-be-just-the-beginning.html?_r=0

As with many far-flung grammatical myths, there are people who feel strongly about this one. However, I want to believe you aren't smarter than their editorial team, hence no cause for refutations of any sort. In your bid to cast censures, you made an unfounded claim & shot yourself in the foot. Even if he did make a mistake, your approach was cynical in the least. Nobody is above mistake, man. Likewise is anyone, an island of knowledge.

As a graduate, I'd rather work in an audit firm or a small company earning 30K per month than work as a cleaner in a multinational and earn 100K as long as I enjoy what I am doing and have a higher chance of growing career-wise in it.

You have a great point which can only move the less enlightened.

Let's put it this way: he earns 80k mopping floors while you earn 30k seated in an airconditioned office typing on a desktop computer.

Assuming the amount the both of you spend on transportation and feeding for every month is 20k each, he will have 60k left for savings while yours will be 10k.

60k x 12months= N720,000

10k x 12months= N120,000

What can you investments 120k in? I don't know for now. Probably something that produces little, not even up to the 30k you earn from being an auditor. I stand to be corrected.

As for his 720K, if he's not a spendthrift, he can invest in transport biz. Placing a danfo bus on the road in lagos can fetch him 80K per month asides the 60K he earns from mopping floors.

80K + 60K= N140,000

140K x 12months= N1,680,000

While he's saving N1,680,000 after 2yrs, you will only have N240K after 2yrs of your comfortable audit job.

In the 3rd year, if he's extra smart, he can add another bus to increase his margin of profit. He can continue the trend in the 4th and 5th year.

By the 5th year, he would have become an employer of labour with 4 danfo buses, each fetching an income of 80K per month asides his cleaner job of 80K per month. Don't forget about the amount he would have saved during those periods.

As for you, your sure believe of nabbing a job worth 300K might get dashed when reality hits you in the face. Even if you finally land the job, you are still going to remain a "yes sir" kind of person cos you've programmed yourself to work for others instead of employing people. Your mentality of comfort at work is one of the reasons why many youths are unemployed or not doing well in employment.

You laugh that I'd rather earn 30k as a graduate in a small company than 100k in an oil company working as a cleaner?

This is where young graduates get it wrong, everything isn't just about money, money, money. Do you agree with me that a young graduate with over 5 solid years experience in a small audit firm earning 30k has a better chance of earning 300k soon enough with his wealth of experience compared to his graduate counterpart that works as a cleaner in an oil company and has vast years of experience mopping floors and mixing detergents? He also has a higher career prospect as well.

It depends on the scenario: If as a graduate, I don't have any job at hand, I wouldn't Think twice before accepting the offer because to a job seeker N50K is big money.
But on a personal note, I wouldn't accept the Cleaning job offer even for 150K because I 've a job that pays..

There are so many graduates waiting tables and working as mailmen here in the states for little more than the minimum wage but their quality of life is still very very good. It's mind numbing work no doubt and mostly filled by people in their early twenties still unsure of the next step to take in their careers

As a graduate to work as a cleaner in an oil firm it's not bad unless the pay is above 100k. Then from been a cleaner I would try to look for a better job opportunity in the same place. Let's remember anything big starts small.

Some graduates need to bury their pride and know the worth of paper delivered to them at the end of 5 years of study. Having said that I av worked in a Bank where a driver rose to become head of transport due to his qualification good attitude, commitment and dedication. Even the bible say what soever your hand find to do do it with all your might.
Finally I remember the cycle of poverty low income 30K low saving, low investment, low return and the cycle continue.
