The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna on Monday, December 7 dismissed the appeal of Aminu Sule Lamido, the 34 year old son of former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, following the decision of the Federal High Court, Kano which found him guilty of the charge of money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Aminu Sule Lamido was arrested on the 11th of December 2012 by operatives of the EFCC, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on his way to Egypt for failure to declare the sum of $40,000 in the Customs Currency Declaration Form after initially declaring the statutory $10,000 to the Nigeria Custom Service.
Aminu, a 2010 graduate of Mass a Communication from the Bayero University Kano, was subsequently arraigned on February 4, 2013, on one count charge of false declaration of foreign currency.

Aminu was tried and consequently convicted on July 12, 2015 by a Federal High Court sitting in Kano and ordered to forfeit 25 percent of the undeclared sum. Dissatisfied with the judgment of the trial court, Aminu filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, Kaduna Division, praying the Appellate court to set aside the judgment of the lower court.

The Appellate court in its judgment delivered by Justice H.A.O Abiru upheld the decision of the lower court and resolved all issues raised against the appellant.

An American daily evening television show, The PBS NewsHour, recently invited ex CBN governor, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi to speak on a topic titled: ‘How a cancer of corruption steals Nigerian oil, weapons and lives’,

During the show, the US television show quoted United States and UK authorities as saying that Alison-Madueke might have “personally overseen the stealing of $6bn.

"The most common method is awarding oil contracts to companies owned by friends," it said.

It alleged that the second most common method of stealing oil was to make oil ships disappear mysteriously.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two of its five staff involved in the November 20 robbery of N310 million from a Bureau De Change, in Abuja.
While two DSS staff have been arrested, the three remaining gang of robbers are at large.
According to Tony Opuiyo, DSS spokesperson, “the Military Authorities have commenced a detailed investigation of five (5) of its personnel involved in the crime.”

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that Abdulrasheed Ahmadu Maigari of the DSS, conspired with four other colleagues of his namely: Solomon Inusa, Peter Okoye, Patrick Ishaya and George Mwatapwa Ibbi, to carry out this reprehensible act.
The five military personnel were led by one Capt. Hussein Ishaku MSHELIA. Meanwhile, the Service has arrested Maigari and Ibbi and Mshelia equally arrested by the Army authorities. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend those still at large.”
“A total of Sixty-Six Million Four Hundred and Thirty Seven Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty-five Naira (N66,437,445.00) and Six Thousand Two Hundred Dollars ($6,200) have so far been recovered, while efforts are being made to recover the remaining amounts. It is to be noted that security agencies now act in concert, thus the joint investigation
undertaken with the Police, Army and the DSS.”

According to INEC, James Faleke remains Kogi deputy governor elect despite the latter publicly withdrawing his participation in the elections.

INEC during the early hours of the day declared Yahaya Bello governor elect after his victory in the state's supplementary governorship elections.

Amina Zakari, the INEC national commissioner, declared that Faleke remained Bello’s deputy because his party, the APC, had not withdrawn his nomination even though he had written to the electoral umpire informing it of his intention to pull out of the race.

“Unless the party withdraws a candidate, his letter is not enough, and unless the proper channel is followed which is through the party,” she said.

Faleke was running mate to late Abubakar Audu, and had asked to be declared governor-elect after Audu’s death. He'd also filed a suit against conducting the supplementary elections. The suit had been rejected.

Tanker drivers heading to Apapa petroleum depot in search for petrol have once again parked recklessly on top of major bridges in Lagos causing serious traffic gridlock. Lagos state residents leaving the mainland to the Island are having a hard time driving as the traffic is really very serious. Some residents of the state who are on twitter say they have been out of their homes since 6.15am and have not been able to leave their neighborhood at about this time.

Some thugs alleged to have a link with APC attacked some members of PDP on Sunday, November 22, at Agudama-Ekpetiama in Yenagoa local government area, leaving two of its members critically injured. In a statement made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, yesterday, the Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign Organization Hon. Jonathan Obuebite who condemned the attack, described it as barbaric and most unacceptable.

Obuebite, in the statement disclosed that the APC thugs were led by one Weri Digifa, a well known thug in the area loyal to the former deputy governor, Werinipre Seibarugu. Digifa allegedly mobilized his thugs under the cover of darkness supported by three armed soldiers who acted as his bodyguards, as they pounced on the defenseless members of the PDP, shortly after the campaign team of the governor left the community at the weekend.

The injured members are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital

This month, Funmi Iyanda will receive what is for her, the latest in a long line of awards, but this time from an English university that has recognised her significant global contribution to human rights and sustainability. At a University of Cumbria graduation ceremony in the historic Carlisle Cathedral on Wednesday 25 November, Funmi will receive an honorary fellowship from the institution in acknowledgment of her outstanding and high profile work.

Funmi is the first African woman to receive this award. An award winning Nigerian media entrepreneur, producer, talk show host, journalist and activist, Funmi is best known for independently producing and hosting Nigeria’s most popular and ground-breaking talk show New Dawn with Funmi, which ran on the national network for eight years.

She is a Director at Creation television, a film production company in the United Kingdom, acquiring classic African literary content for film adaptation to a global audience. She is also the founder of the Change-A-Life Foundation, a social service non-profit organization that acts as a bridge between exceptional but indigent youth and women and the individuals, agencies and organizations with the capacity and willingness to meet these people’s needs.

Funmi has worked closely with the University of Cumbria for a number of years, in particular with its Institute for Leadership and Sustainability (IFLAS), where her achievements and inspiration make her a role model to the growing contingent of African students who enrol on the MBA. She has been recognised by the World Economic Forum making her a Young Global Leader (YGL) and by Forbes magazine naming her one of Africa’s most powerful and influential women, and is a Fellow of the Aspen Institute World Global Leaders Programme.

Speaking on receiving the award, Funmi said, “I am truly honoured to have my work and career recognised by such a historic institution and thankful for a great space to contribute to a diverse body of knowledge.” IFLAS Founder and Professor of Sustainability Leadership, Jem Bendell, says of Funmi, “She demonstrates how celebrity and media can be used to raise the level of debate about what kind of society, politics and economy we want.

“Given the gossip and squabbling in much mainstream media, it is important that our cultural leaders call us to consider what really matters in life, like poverty, equality, and the environment. We look forward to working further with Funmi on a range of our activities in both the UK and Africa.”

The University of Cumbria teaches leadership and sustainability to hundreds of senior executives from across Africa, through its MBA programmes with the Robert Kennedy College. IFLAS has over 500 African MBA students.

This time, the former Chief of Staff of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is to supervise three ministries in the President Mohammadu Buhari administration.

The Supreme Court will this morning rule on the appeal filed by the Senate President Bukola Saraki challenging the ruling of the Appeal court which upheld the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to try him over allegations of false assets declaration while he was governor of Kwara state.

The Appeal court on October 30th dismissed an appeal filed by Saraki challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct tribunal, stating that his appeal lacked merit. The Supreme Court will this morning decide whether or not the judgement of the appeal court should be dismissed or upheld.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has congratulated former Governor of the State & his predecessor, Kayode Fayemi over his appointment as Solid Mineral Minister, urging him to use his position for the commercial exploitation of the abundant solid mineral resources in his homestate, Ekiti. Fayose expressed his congratulations in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka.

He stated that President Buhari must have considered the need for commercial exploitation of the solid minerals spread across towns and villages in Ekiti State before arriving at the choice of Fayemi as Solid Minerals Minister.

“Ekiti has solid minerals like clay kaolin, cassiterite, tin ore, columbite, bauxite (Alluminium Ore), foundry sand and charconite granite. Even in Isan-Ekiti, Fayemi’s hometown, there is clay kaolin that can be used for abrasive, plastics, ceramics ware, pharmaceuticals, textiles, fertilizers, white tiles and insulator wares pencils. Now that the Federal Government is talking about diversification of the economy, Fayemi should use his position to assist Ekiti State in harnessing its solid mineral resources for the economic benefit of the State and Nigeria. I therefore congratulate Fayemi for this appointment and thank President Buhari for the appointment. It is my prayers that God, in His infinite mercies will grant him (Fayemi) the wisdom and strength to use the new position for the betterment of Ekiti State in particular and Nigeria in general,” he said.

HIS EXCELLENCY, NYESOM EZENWO WIKE, CON, GOVERNOR OF RIVERS STATE’S BROADCAST TO THE STATE ON THE DISRUPTIVE ACTIVITIES IN PORT HARCOURT BY UNAUTHORIZED GROUPS


My dear people of Rivers State

For the second time within a month individuals and groups purporting to represent the indigenous people of Biafra have held unauthorized protests on the streets in Port Harcourt.

2. Majority of these individuals have come from neighbouring States and in the course of these protests, disrupted social and economic activities, damaged properties, assaulted and inflicted injuries on other citizens going about their lawful endeavours.

3. While individuals and groups are free to exercise their freedom of expression, they must do so peacefully and strictly within the bounds of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. No individual or group has the right, whatsoever, to disturb public peace and order, threaten the safety of the public and create fear and an atmosphere of insecurity in the State or any part thereof.

4. The right of any group of persons to agitate for their perceived rights cannot be allowed to infringed on the rights of other Nigerians, especially the people of Rivers State to remain an integral component of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

5. Our government was elected on a mandate, and has sworn to an oath, to defend the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Therefore, the Rivers State Government will not fold its arms and allow members of the indigenous people of Biafra or any other group to turn the State or any part thereof into a hotbed of unlawful protests against the unity and peaceful co-existence of the various peoples and ethnic groups within the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

6. Consequently, after due consultations with the members of the State Security Council, and in exercise of my constitutional responsibility to preserve the safety, security and corporate integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is hereby ordered that all forms of street protests, demonstrations, rallies or unlawful gatherings associated with the agitations for the secession of any group from the Federal Republic of Nigeria are banned in Rivers State.

7. Any person or group who violates this ban or acts in any manner prejudicial to the interest of peace and security would be arrested and prosecuted.

8. While we commend the security agencies for their maturity in handling the situation foisted on us, I call on the people and residents of Rivers State to be more vigilant and report any further activities that threaten public peace, order, safety and security to any of the law enforcement agencies for immediate action.

9. Finally, let no one be in doubt of the resolve of the Rivers State Government and the security agencies to maintain law and order at all cost within the State and preserve the unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Popular Nollywood Star Actress Iyabo Ojo has made her first debut in a Hollywood movie. She took her first step in a movie titled - ‘The Mask’, which reflects on the private life of pastors and what they face when the lights go off, and some of the domestic challenges they go through.

she is currently on set of the movie where she is playing alongside Hollywood Star Dorien Wilson.

The movie which is been directed by Nigerian Hollywood based movie director Pascal Atuma, was written by Pastor Promise Adeyemi who is also the movie producer.

Speaking with Golden Icons, Pascal disclosed that Iyabo is a very talented actress and a very good ambassador of Nollywood. He added that working with her is ‘just fantastic’.

In his words: “Fantastic, just fantastic. Her talent level is A+ and her acting depth and range is phenomenal. She takes direction very well and is very easy to work with. Her onscreen chemistry with Dorian Wilson is electric, and she showed Dorien that Nollywood is not a joke, she brought the best out of Dorien. Very good ambassador and export for Nollywood, she is representing very well. I am 100% sure that I will cast her again, and very soon. 100% endorsed, she will do very well in Hollywood”

The Rivers State Government has dissociated itself from the protests by members of pro-Biafra groups.

The Rivers State Government takes exception to the disruption of commercial activities by the protesters. .

The Rivers State Government believes in one indivisible Nigeria.

In as much as people have the right to peaceful protest, it should not be at the detriment of other members of the public.

If the protesters have any misgivings, they should channel same to the appropriate authorities.

Miss Heritage Nigeria 2015 Benedicta Akpana, just reached out to www.metroparrot.net to explain how she was robbed in South Africa yesterday. According to Benedicta, she was waiting to be checked into her room at 7:00am when three armed men robbed her of my belongings and travel documents at gun point, just at the reception right before the receptionist and the security men, who couldn't help.

The distraught Benedicta says she's traumatized and fear this experience may affect her performance at the grand finale. She says she doesn't know how to replace her stolen costumes, documents, shoes and accessories.

The former presidential spokesperson turned 50 yesterday and his wife Omolara in collaboration with close friends, threw him a surprise birthday party. Explaining how he was surprised, Abati said;
