Ogun State Police Command said on Friday five police inspectors, seven sergeants and seven corporals were dismissed between July 2016 and June this year for various offences.

The Command added that two inspectors, five sergeants and two corporals were demoted while 11 others were seriously reprimanded within the same period.





The state Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, who stated these while briefing journalists at the Command’s Headquarters, Eleweran, also disclosed that four policemen were arraigned in court after dismissal.

Iliyasu said the disciplinary measures were taken against the affected officers to impress it further in the consciousness of people that “no erring police man will ever go unpunished.”

Taiwo Rasaq, who allegedly “bludgeoned” two undergraduate students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye, and buried them in a bush in a nearby Oru community ,was paraded.

The police also paraded a prophet, Akinlalu David who enlisted the service of another prophet, Idowu Alabi, Friday Salako and Nesto Fashehun to help him use his 13 year – old son, Peter Akinlalu, for money ritual.

Items recovered from some of the suspects included 15 Pump Action Guns, four AK 47 riffles, local shot guns and live cartridges.

Today, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki laid a wreath at the at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin Wall.


The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, is monumental grave that contains the remains of one soldier who died in December 1941 at Km41 of Leningradskoe sh – the nearest the Nazis came to Moscow.

Many countries now maintain such tombs to serve as memorials to all their war dead. The inscription on the Tomb in Russia reads: ‘Your name is unknown, your deeds immortal.’

Every hour on the hour, the guards perform a perfectly synchronised ceremony to change the guards on duty.

There’s an eternal flame, and other inscriptions listing the Soviet 'hero cities' of WWII – those that withstood the heaviest fighting – and honouring ‘those who fell for the motherland’ between 1941 and 1945.

South of the tomb, a row of red urns contains earth from the hero cities.

The Senate President’s wreath had a ribbon with the inscription: “With gratitude for your service to mankind in the pursuit of peace and justice for people everywhere.” Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

The Peoples Democratic Party has debunked claims that it asked presidential aspirants to pay N12million to pick up forms.

This was made via a statement signed by its National Organising Secretary, Austin Akobundu slamming a publication by a national newspaper titled ‘PDP list guidelines for presidential aspirants, demands N12m for forms.

“We wish to state categorically that the Party is still in the process of drawing up the guidelines for its presidential primary election. It is therefore misleading to claim that the party has ‘listed its guidelines’ not to talk of the cost of nomination forms.

At the appropriate time, the proposals will be presented to NEC of the Party which will approve as it deems fit. Only then can one say that it has the guidelines for the 2018 presidential primary election” Akobundu said

An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday remanded one Olaleye Suyi, 21, for allegedly stabbing his friend, Oladele Kayode, in the face while asleep.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 15 at about 11.30 am at Line 3, Aladanla Street, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused caused Kayode grievous harm by allegedly stabbing him with a knife in the face several times due to a misunderstanding.

He said that the offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of causing grievous harm.

The defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.

He promised that his client would not jump bail and would produce reliable sureties.

The Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode, however, directed the defence counsel to present a formal application for bail.

Ijiyode also ordered that the accused be remanded in Ile-Ife prison pending the hearing of the bail application.

He adjourned the case till July 13 for hearing.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has recounted how he became a born-again Christian.


He made the disclosure while addressing Benue stakeholders on Tuesday night in the state capital, Makurdi.

Osinbajo also said that the Vice Presidential position meant nothing to him and he was ready to give it up at a short notice.


Osinbajo, a Professor of Law, was reacting to statements by Catholic Bishop of Gboko, Most Rev. William Avenya, said that the vice president had been silent in the face of killings, oppression of smaller tribes and the palpable fear of an Islamic agenda by the Buhari administration that he is a part of .

The vice president said, “My Lord Bishop, you said you are not a politician, I am also not a politician. As a matter of fact, I am also a priest and I’m a Christian, a born again Christian. Because I am a born again Christian, my destiny is not determined by any man but by God who I serve.


“Let me assure you that under no circumstance, none whatsoever, will I give up my faith or refuse to stand up for my faith. You can take that to the bank.

“Even the position that I currently occupy, I did not ask for it and I’m prepared to leave it at a short notice. It doesn’t mean anything. I became a born again Christian after I became a professor, a professor of the law of evidence, a professor of proof.

“But when the Lord Jesus Christ met me, He persuaded me by showing me clearly that there is such a thing as the evidence of faith that are not seen.

“It is because of the evidence of things that are not seen, it is because you can make something out of nothing that I stand here today as vice president.

“How possible can anyone say that the killing of women and children doesn’t matter because he is vice president or because he is president? How is that possible?

“Certainly, it cannot be for a person who is born again. A renewed mind will know that there is justice, there is consequence even if there is no justice here on earth.”

The Central bank of Nigeria has urged Nigerians of their right to demand new notes from banks and reject dirty notes as the CBN continues its efforts to rid the country of dirty currency.

Isaac Okorafor, acting director, communications department of the of the CBN said this in a statement.

He also blamed the commercial banks of putting a spanner in the works in the CBN’s attempt to use cleaner notes.

Okorafor then spoke on some of the measures taken by the CBN to get cleaner notes in circulation, including, the reduction in the amount it charges banks for sorting the dirty notes for clean ones from N12,000 to N1,000 per box.

He said this reduction in charges was in a bid to encourage more banks to bring in dirty money and exchange it for clean notes which then go back into circulation.

Seeing that the move wasn’t working as planned, the CBN has started making moves to remove the monies from circulation themselves including engaging associations in various markets to encourage traders to change genuine dirty notes for new ones.

“The bank has already taken the new measure to Kano, Kaduna and Abuja and also intends to bring it to the south,” Okorafor said.
