He doesn't need to go and spend money paying for tuition in the UK when plenty schools in the U.S will admit him with tuition waiver and monthly stipend to boot! Very good programmes too. It depends on it undergraduate CGPA though

He said he has a 2.2, does he still stand a chance with that?

U ar not a serious person honestly. U studied course for 4 or 5years still you don't know your prospect in that course., shame on you, you just wasted your parent money n efforts to send you to school. U lied that you have 2.2 and still want to go for Pgd. People like you are disgracefu to Nigeria system of education.

What's all this? The guy asked a simple question and you crucified him this much. Na wa o. You no fit teach o. You go kill all your students if they dare ask you questions.
Oga take it easy o. No one knows it all.

I just created UNION OF YOUNG PHYSICISTS - a WhatsApp group for undergraduates and graduates of Physics and the related sciences like Chemistry and Biology, Mathematics and engineering.
If you like to join, my WhatsApp number is 08168974531.
The group will afford us to share academic, research, employment and social ideas.
You are welcome!

I study electronics and computer technology under physics...what are the chances of enjoying same privilege with pure physics graduates?

I don't understand what you wrote up there. Did you major in Electronics and Computer Tech while studying Physics in school?

I ask because I've not heard of such major before.
Or the name of your course is Electronics and Computer Tech?

Please answer. Thanks

The course is electronics and computer technology under physics department. it's under physics department because we don't have engineering department.

Geophysical Field school is coming up this weekend from thursday to Saturday....

its an intensive training on the application and use of geophysical equipment and this time the focus will be on electrical and magnetic methods from acquisition through processing to interpretation.

its meant for young physicist, entrepreneurs in mining and hydro geology industry and anybody that have interest in geophysics.

Base camp is university of ibadan hotel and the application fee is a token of 17k at the venue ....

i hope this is an avenue to give someone a means of living.....try and be there.

Plentiful. My undergraduate major is Pure and Applied Physics. And I had no trouble getting a job in the Oil and Gas industry in Nigeria before I decided to leave and get a graduate degree in IT. I had no problem getting into graduate schools with my degree as well as I had plenty of the prerequisite plus the fact that Physics is considered the foundation of many physical sciences and engineering

My advise to you is not to limit yourself and feel free to diversify. Looking at my former classmates' LinkedIn, I found out that most of them have no problems fitting into the Communications, IT, Energy, Engineering or even Medical fields. Heck, one of them just got a masters in Petroleum Engineering. The opportunity to spread and adapt is limitless. As I said, don't limit yourself. A physics degree opens you to a whole new world.

You might even decide to get a PhD straight.... If you're intent on becoming a college professor. Plenty of schools here will accept you for a combined Masters/PhD programme in Physics. I know cos I have at least two friends who are doing that. It's fully funded with nice stipends and opportunity to publish nice papers

The key is to research, research and research. Find the right fit and the right career path for yourself and the gates of succes has just been flung open. All the best.

which country are you talking about dear?

If you can afford it, go for a masters in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Mechatronics at a very good university, e.g. abroad. I understand De Montfort University(DMU) in UK has a very good Mechatronics course at reasonable fee

am i going to write GCE exam?

Chai, my Almighty PHYSICS, my brother, try nd specialise in atmospheric physics, meteorology, many aviation industries are in need of dem. dnt bother going to medical, its populated. check astrophysics anoda area, bt am encouraging u if u r strong in quantum mechanics to come into MAGNETISM, few persons r into it in Nigeria nd it makes d cost of speakers nd many musical instruments costly, my dear, u r limitless as a PHYSICIST, when I talk geophysics, even geology students in UNN dnt make noise, they r a lot u can do as a physicist. we r d HIGH VOLTAGE COMMUNITY, always visit schools like UNN nd see what we do with PHYSICS, engineering students come to us for proper understanding of dia courses, I feel like pouring my hrt here bt u knw as a physicist, we don't hav d time to b wasting on social network, they r many problems d world z facing dat needs out urgent attention, I want to specialise in NANOTECHNOLOGY bt still considering GEOPHYSICS, let's set d pace while engineers follow .I hope dis helps

Thanks for this tip

I'd suggest you graduate with a good grader first. It's better and easier to get things done with a good grade. Next is to develop your self while at school. Improve your communication skills, computer skills and if possible go for some certifications. If you have time learn Electronics and Computer repairs from those "road side" technicians so that by the time you're graduating, school has passed through you and not the other way round. Then finally, do a thorough research about industries you'll like to work and go for it! And of its Masters, go for it too. Don't hesitate to pressure your dreams. Barak

As far as i know, physics is the only science and the others are rubber stamps, you should not make a decision to study physics becos you have no other option, but because you want to understand nature and unveil certain other mysteries.Physics is not for those that want to engage in a lucrative job, it is for those who are ready to sacrifice the wealth the world offers for a lifetime of endless search of answers to questions that nature keeps posing.I rest my case

The best thing for you is to get a higher degree in physics (Masters)..
These are most lucrative areas of physics you can specialize on..

- Radiation and Health physics (slightly different from medical physics but closely related.. The only university offering true medical physics in Nigeria is Unilag).

- Solid earth physics (closely related to geophysics)

- Atmospheric physics (also related to ionospheric physics)

- Theoretical physics

- etc

That radiation and health physics is a hot cake with numerous relevance.. It is also very related to Nuclear physics.

Addendum: Radiation and Health physics has broad application than medical physics.
Medical physics is only restricted to medical application (Diagnostic radiology, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine)..

While radiation and health physics fits in all areas of radiation application (Medical, industrial (nuclear gauges, well logging, NDT, construction, nuclear reactors, radiation protection, etc)
