@Guddy,
Welcome to the forum. If you had actually gone through previous posts, you'll find that I had already given enough info about myself and where I practice plus other vital info.
Nevertheless, to serve as a bonus for you, I currently practice at Unilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin. My area of specialization is histopathology.
Cheers.

@Olly256,
Your question has already been treated in an earlier post in this forum.
Nevertheless, you will need to go to the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria to register for a graduate internship program which takes two years.
I am aware that School Of Medical Laboratory Sciences, O.A.U.T.H.C., Ife and Federal School of Medical Laboratory Sciences Jos still admit graduates for this purpose. You'll decide where to go once you  register with the council.
The MLSCN is situated at No 8, Harvey Rd. Yaba, Lagos behind Yaba Orthopaedic Hospital.

Cheers.

Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by Nobody: 2:48am On Aug 24, 2010
hi, can anyone plz tel me what d internship year is like in Nigeria. I graduated from a uni in SA and over there the internship year comes after graduation and is when u ar basically trained in all lab departments, after which u get licensed and then specialise.

I want to know how it works in Nigeria. Are interns given more trainings like how to read plates, slides etc as well or are they now left to do things by themselves with minimum supervision during intern year?

tnx!
Re: Medical Laboratory Scientists Forum by chynenye(f): 8:15pm On Aug 29, 2010
@ Zingy, Its about the same thing here in Nigeria. The interns are given a provissional lisence to practise for one year after which a full lisence will be given to them during their registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) at the completion of internship .

They will be trained by the Scientists in the various departments of the laboratory and are expected to carry out certain laboratory procedures under their supervision. This means you will be expected to read plates, slides and so on after you must have been trained. You will also take calls in the different departments but will have another scientist on call as a supervisor.

In essence you are expected to perfect in carrying out all laboratory procedures on completion of internship after which you can specialize in your area.

This is wonderful information. It’s great having my own people to interact with in Nairaland. I call on my colleagues in the academia to collaborate with our council and University administrations to ensure that Medical Laboratory Science is offered by all the Universities in the country. This will increase the awareness for this noble profession of ours in Nigeria.
