Some dredging may be required before very large ships can navigate that river for 30 - 40 miles. The advantages of such a project cannot be overstated - shame on our leaders for ignoring projects such as this and the reconstruction of the second Niger bridge.

This project shouldnt be looked at as an unattainable project. I have been preaching this for many months now and it is time we look into this issue so as the dependency of the east will be reduce and the real performance of the east will be brought to light.

this shouldnt be politicised because it is strictly an economic capital project which we need to undertake so that the future of the eastern region will be safeguarded.

i am imploring on all easterners worldwide and around the country to see through their nose and do the right thing. some parts of imo and abia can get this thing done and this project will be fully-funded by easterners and create the required opportunities for the future.

it is time to think #east

And will this be before or after the peoples of the delta form their own countries?

I'm a non-igbo SS and have no qualms with the agitation of your peoples. The problem I've got is that in one move you guys want to work with the SS people (as you have implied in your post) and in another you blatantly insult us in our face ("AWA OYEL"wink. It's this type of double speak that most SS are worried about. Also your people's have to learn to be very very subtle. You acquire wealth in say Kano or Warri and blatantly live ostentatious lives. As Jews you guys need to learn from the Jews of Europe and America. Very rich, very powerful but never ever seen to be so.

What happens when the northerners decide to put a bigger dam on the river Niger? Are you going to supply this canal with borehole water?
This same scenario is playing out between Ethiopia and Egypt.

You don't reason well. You have based your argument on the assumption that if Igbos pull out of Nigeria then all the other tribes will remain in Nigeria. What you don't know is that if the Igbos are allowed to leave, the Niger Delta would also leave to form their own country. Even the MB might also quite and stay on their own. Then there would be ifferent countries living side by side and diplomacy will come into play. If the Igbos leave, the centre will crumble. Boko haram might even take over the NE and establish an islamic caliphate there.
This is why the unrest in the NE will never stop. Boko Haram want to take it over, so the killings must continue until the Igbos completely move out from the north to develop their own states

is it only ibos that are living along the coast line of dis imo river?

Exactly what i thought! Just because it is named "Imo" river does not mean it is only theirs! The source might be from Imo, but if it passes through some other SS regions like i think it does (not too familiar with the geography), then those communities can equally lay claim for the section that passes through their region! I am just saying......incase these wannabe biafrans think they will have access to the Ocean through this river, they better think twice

Ok so you want to dredge past Ijaw and Akwa Ibom land with monstrous environmental consequences for the indigenous people of those areas so as to keep your poor landlocked Biafra supplied.
Even the way the thread started is just typical. Just popping a map and drawing lines and voila Biafra port.
Everything simple because the other ethnic groups are stupid and they escorted Ibos to this world only to minister to their fulfilment.

Exactly my thought dude......theses mofos are completely deluded......They want to lay claim to the SS......Just because a river has a source in the SE but which flows through the SS before emptying into the ocean, they want to lay claim to the whole river. This to me is the definition of grand delusion!!!!. I support them having their Biafra.....but the greater Nigeria should crush any land grabbing antiques they might be cooking up regarding the SS which is still part of the so called Nigerian zoo!!!!

Deltagiant pointed out that the Port of New Orleans is reached through a river that's in a port that is further away from New Orleans, than some towns are from Abia State. I'm wondering, is the coast and the river itself suitable enough to take large container ships or even bigger to deliver goods directly to southern Abia State. There can be a proposed port around Azumini and an artificial lake similar to the Volta in Ghana plus river widening could be part of a proposed project if parties are serious enough.

Not trying to be bigotry o, just asking for clarity sake!

Are folks planning to build this as a independent Nation or while still part of the zoo?

Depending on your answer, be prepare to pay owo omo onile (oyinbo pple callam Right of Way Fees)

Please I will like to be a part of this project. Any project that involves driving investment in the heartland of Biafra, including sensitizing people on the urgent need to do so, I want to be part of it

this is great.

should we create a thread to sensitize people who will want to join in this project and achieve it. it will not be a mere NGO work but something that will really stand.

i have gotten some emails online and many other like minds offline. there is this drive in the heart of the young igbos and how to accomplish things like this.

I am just curious as heck, these biafrans are deluded! How can the SOUTH EAST HAVE A SEA PORT WHEN IT IS LAND LOCKED? DON'T THEY HAVE RESPECT FOR THE SS REGION? OR DO THEY THINK THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT HAVE THE RIGHT TO A REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA AND BY EXTENSION THE SOUTH SOUTH HAS NO SAY AND MOST BE PART OF THEIR SOUTH EAST? I CAN NOT WAIT TO SEE THEM TRY TO CONQUER SOUTH SOUTH....I TRUST THE NIGER DELTANS!!!

I also factored in the bends in the river. This is definitely possible. I believe this should be seriously considered by some "south east" (Igbo) investors and basically creating a new river on the Aba river which is like only a stream now, can you imagine a port in Aba directly connected to the coast.
How would revenue be generated to justify the project costs?
If it were to be handled by private investors, the government would come in with their taxes and cut into profits.
On the other hand, the government of present Nigeria would hardly consider executing a project of such magnitude.

Private investors can lobby HOR and Senate members to push it forward.

Just saying.
