I thought I was the only one in this mess. I did not know my wifes salary for the 8 years she worked but she know mine until we divorced. The reason is that if you know her salary she feels you may not give her enough money anymore.

Many reasons. Your friends might be seeing you as a big boy/girl until they see how much you're earning. Others would turn you to their Jehovah Jireh if they knew how much you earned. Some men could become irresponsible if they found out their wives are equal to the task & vice versa. Plus other echetram echetram reasons.
However, spouses are NOT allowed to hide their salaries, it's wrong.

If I were you, honestly, I won't bother at all, in as much I can run my home in a manly manner. I will even be giving her pocket money in respect of her salaries.
