what I meant is that many will not meet up for admission due to the pandemic. we will secure the scholarship but some will start next year due the pandemic.

With the way things are now, PTDF scholarship is next year.

As far as I know. The result for the interview I attended at the University of Ibadan on 20th of March 2020 WILL NOT be delayed till next year. It WILL be released and utilised for 2020/2021 session.

Just thinking loud though. Why are we not seeing people applying to German and Chinese universities? Almost everybody I know is opting for UK or France.
Germany and China got some good schools. Moreso, the standard if living is quite high in Germany.
My quiet thinking though.

How can you pay 20,000 to 35000 pounds fees in without going to the field and practical work. That is insane. You can always get same quality in any online course. The main reason PTDF spnsors scholars is to obtain practical expertise and exposure to give back to Nigeria. So dont blame PTDF. How can you go abroad and live in lockdown. Many student and sponsors have also deferred.

PTDF sponsors hundreds for scholarship every year unlike Mobil, Total or NLNG which sponsor maximum of 10 people in a year or every other year. So dont even compare at all.

Those who chose Germany and France in which PTDF wont pay school fees have a chance to be called.

The number of courses in the UK where they go for field and practical experience during a one-year masters is quite minuscule.

I know of people who went to the UK for masters in engineering and they never told me they went for field work. With the exception. of friends who studied petroleum geoscience and pet engr at Imperial. Most of them only engaged in classes, coursework, seminars, exams and lab work.

Your analysis is quite insightful though but I don't know why that should paralysed everything.

If that is a concern PTDF can liase with the school and request for discount. Furthermore, the remote and online classes should not go beyond first semester which coincides with the end of the year. Full academic rituals should resume by next January.

Maybe this will affect PhDs, but then again the first couple of months into the PhD programme is usually a planning phase. They rarely do serious execution during this period.

Who told you that and how did you arrive at these hypothesis? The results for 2016 or so was not released until September? A lot can still be done this year.People should just ensure that they are ready with necessary documentations

It's been confirmed by Campus France, from July 1st, international students will be allowed into the Schengen region and the European Zone. Visa processing of students travel documents will be prioritized by Campus France.

Thanks Mr Physics for the update. This is a good development particularly for intending scholars wanting to study in France. We will hear good report from PTDF too very soon.

Ptdf is a statutory and independent agency run by budget. They don't need any special approval from Buhari.

Presidency does not have to be Buhari. It includes the president and all those working for him. The letter may be addressed to the task force as you mentioned or Minister of state for petroleum. Perhaps, it may be addressed to Buhari himself since he unofficially doubles as the Minister of petroleum. The issue of Covid -19 may have introduced a number of anomalies. I believe it will end for a greater good

Like seriously, this coronavirus is really affecting so many things like I said.
Even, if PTDF releases the final result today, higher percentage of successful scholars (most especially scholars going to Germany) will not go abroad this year (that is the fact,it is not to discourage anyone).
Last year, successful scholars got success email on June 10th, and by then most German Universities have closed Winter intake admission,that forced most of the German scholars to look for 2020 summer admission, and as i am talking to you guys,most German scholars are still in Nigeria, which I am one of them.
Even, we were asked (those Interested) to change country to either France, Malaysia or China,I was able to get admission in France, hoping to travel this year October before Oga coro arrived to scatter the arrangement.
Unfortunately,the school that gave me admission sent me email few weeks ago to inform me that my admission is reported to next year 2021-2022 due to this coronavirus situation, meaning I need to wait again till next year. My intending course is not a course that can easily be taken online because it has a lot of practicals.
Guys, let us continue to keep the hope alive.

Is your intended institution a grand ecole or mainstream university?
Additionally, which region or city is it located?

This is because what I read from French government specified that Universities will not resume earlier than summer. That means some can resume immediately after summer or much later. I guess that universities are allowed to lay their own rules as it suits them.

Trends from the last couple of years shows that PTDF do release the result after Ramadan celebration. Ramadan for this year falls on the 23rd of May 2020.
Most likely the result will be released after that date and not before it.
However, whenever they release the result let us be found prepared by securing valid admission from respective universities.

I don't think PTDF scholarship is a recurrent expenditure, I could be wrong. PTDF scholarship is for developing manpower for the oil and gas industry, I don't think that will pass as a recurrent expense, it looks more like a capital project. For the previous scholars already awarded, modalities must have been put in place to pay scholars as at the time of the award, it could be monthly, quarterly, or lump sum.....so basically they will not be affected by the economic crunch.

Apparently, they get their monies from budgetary allocation to them via ministry of petroleum.

The scholarship is undoubtedly Recurrent and not Capex.

Capex can be defined as money spent to buy improve or maintain fixed assets such as roads, bridges, buildings vehicles and equipment etc. For example if the legislative are buying new sets of official cars, that can be classified as fixed assets. Human can not be classified as fixed assets.

Recurrent expenditure refers mainly to expenditure on operations, wages and salaries, purchases of goods and services, and current grants and subsidies.

Let us think of the scholarship as a fixed term contract with the Federal Government-similar to Nysc-where your remuneration or wage or salary covers your tuition,flight tickets and living expenses during your studies.

Once again it falls under Recurrent and not Capex .

Yeah!!. I see. However let us simplify the whole scenario this way:
1)Germany and China bears the tuition and living expenses of scholars. I think PTDF only contribute their flight tickets or so. Correct me if my facts are wrong. It will be unfortunate if PTDF batters away their slots for this year for flimsy reasons;
2) Tuition in France and Malaysia are really cheap. This should not be a burden
3) UK universities are the real money guzzlers. Sometime I wish PTDF stop patronising them. These might be where the challenge might be.
4) Oil price is around 30 dollars or so presently and might continue to increase as most western nation have reportedly passed their peaks and economies are being kickstarted.

I still believe strongly that the exercise will not be aborted. It wil continue shortly.

I strongly don't think so. The issue of Covid-19 has largely been contained in most of the destination countries and life is gradually returning to normal. Maybe with the exception of UK. Germany is opening, China has opened up and France is easing down from May 11. Furthermore, it is said that Nigeria will reach the peak sometimes in July or so. So why would they disrupt the process for a whole year. Infact I CANNOT see otherwise. PTDF will conclude everything soon,. You just wait and see

It depends on the university in question. A number of them allow 2 choices or so. Check with university to be sure though

Ptdf should please expedite action to release the Msc list. Many universities will soon close their applications for September enteries. They should not wait for PhD interviews to be concluded because PhD candidates have a free hand in choosing when to start their program ( From September to June), depending on the arrangement with their supervisors.

Yeah!!. I see your point in that and quite agree to the flexibility of PhD start when compared with rigid structure of masters programme globally. In the mean time, I think we should all ensure that we have a standing and valid admission for 2020 ready. This will reduce processes involved when the list is finally released.

Guys let us please don't lose hope. Last year was realesed in June while 2018 was released also in June.We are still in the first week of May. Moreso PhD are yet to be interviewed. What ever, happens I know and I know that it will end for my good.

As Abokii 8 has rightly pointed PTDF has a history of releasing the result (PhD and Msc) shortly after Ramadan celebration. If we are to go by happenings in the past couple of years, the latter is strongly favoured.
However, in life anything is possible. Maybe this year might signal a break from tradition.

NB: The school must be PTDF approved schools.

That sounds great. I also think it is sound wisdom if one secure admissions independently as the timing of result may be well after the application window of most European universities.

For which course? I have friends who have gone to france and landing internships has been extremely difficult - especially since they went there to gain great internship experience. And they went to reputable schools in france

I am looking at material science and engineering.
I quite see the experiences of your friends. Obviously, businesses won't dole out internships like charities. One has to work and compete for it.However. for the mere fact that the school included it in their curriculum piques my interest.

I have carefully checked through one of the schools in France-Grenoboe to specific- and am highly impressed by the rigourous nature of the programme which includes 5 months internships, strong emphasis on research, opportunity to work with good companies just within the neighbourhood of the university and chance to specialise e.t.c. This and much more appears better than what Imperial, Birmingham is offering. Yes Imperial and Birmingham have the world class name but I am looking well beyond the programme.

I don't want to make decision base on name of the school or opportunity to live in UK only.
