EducationHow Do I Get Gov Fashola To Know This? by 2Mekus(op): 10:36am On Feb 14, 2012
I have kids in Lagos public Secondary schools. It is supposed to be free, but the extortions by Teachers through several coinages are alarming.

Everyday, the students are told to pay one form of levy or the other; failure which they are flogged like cows. When Inspectors are about to come visiting, the students are warned never to say anything about the levies or even speak to any of the inspectors. My Children have complained to no end.

Once, I got a phone number of a teacher in the school (Oshodi Comprehensive Junior High School) and threatened him and the following day a levy that was imposed on the pupils were cancelled. Yet, they never stop imposing another.

Some of the levies include payment for:

Internet connection in the school that does not have computer classes

Monthly payment for cleaning of toilets (whereas they have cleaners in the payroll of the government)

Payment for photocopies of documents that were never given to them

Payment for cutting of grass in and around the school (yet the students are forced to do it manually by themselves)

Payment for a send off party to teachers that were leaving the school

The list is endless and all are compulsory.

I have not confronted the Principal on this for fear of reprisal on my kids.

How do I bring this to the notice of Lagos State Education Board?

@2mekus,
I've not really been able to stop the menace, what I've only been able to do is to prevent a particular number (in their hundreds) from calling or flashing me again 'cos each number you add to the blacklist would never be able to either call or flash you any more.
Another way of reducing the the menace it to install this truecaller app on your phone. Go to m.truecaller.com on your phone to download/install it. After then, you can also use the app to block or filter any number, including those nonsensical flashers.
At last I've been able to decode the menace guys, hurray! If you are one us that they have been harassed to no end, just type STOP or OUT (in capital letters) and send to 547 and that's it. You will receive a message confirming that you've been removed from their list except you re-register with them. That's what I did and I have had my peace back ever after. Thank God

Sam_Ikenna:
I want to believe OBJ and some northern Emirs and ex-presidents know Nigeria and its inner workings, but for the rest of us I'm not sure we really know whats going on. Even GEJ may not completely know whats happening and the reason they're happening. Seems like the ones that know are playing some kind of mind game with us - today this person is arrested, tomorrow hes gone. The next thing they tell us the culprit went to the mosque to pray and fled from there or they tell us he went to pee and from there he evaporated. We never hear the real story no matter how deep the media dig, it seems like at some point they tell the media to shut up or face something. After all the culprit magical vanishings they set up a panel and we never get to hear their findings and for some reason we wont ask our Govt for it. Before you say Jack the same happens again and we're back to square one.

The above is why I doubt Al Mustapha would face the hangman's noose. They're going to dump him in Kirikiri and before we know it another Admin will come and release him through the backdoor and have him flown somewhere in Europe, US, or Arabia. You see sometimes we shout core north but some of our southern politicians are in a serious unholy cahoots with the power hungry ex-presidents and traditional rulers from up north if not why would it be this easy to blind all of us in broad day light. If not, why would it be only the people from core north that always disappear from maximum security detention and the rest of us are told to be calm. Think about it, if it were Yorubas or Igbos doing all the bombing do you think our villages would still have one tree left standing? How many times do you hear a southern police officer discharged his gun mistakenly or fired his gun and killed someone because pf checkpoint extortion?

I lived in Aba and I know this first hand. All the accidental police killings in Aba during my stay there came from officers from up north and one begins to wonder why its so. Our own officers from the south kill too but when you look at the stats it's crystal clear which section takes the chunk of the %. Each time these officers kill nothing happens, they're either tranfered or discharged with full benefits, I'm not even sure they're discharged. And today we're seeing the fruit of our nonchalant attitude in pursuing full justice - One arrest one disappearance. The culprits are usually from one section and the victims usually from other sections.

The culprits have come to believe the country is theirs therefore, how dare "others" prosecute them for what they did. If they're gracious enough they let us hold them for weeks in detention before the usual vanishing that has become the norm. I guess they feel like we should thank them for spending few weeks in detention before gracefully leaving. They dont take us seriously and I ask myself why should they? I mean if we were in there shoes, who knows, we would probably do the same after spending almost 2/3 of the life of this nation in leadership position.
Bros, I feeeeeeeeeeeeeeel you jare.  I agree completely but I also think that nothing lasts for ever.  One day the tide will change; just like they have been WITHOUT the so-called power for 8 - 9 years now.  It has never happend in the annals of this country and they are yet to come out of the shock.  The tide will change one day, be assured of that.

SSS good work sha.  But I do hope all these will not end up for nothing when someone will declare amnesty to these barbaric murderers.

Is it that they forged their entry papers (qualifications) or that they did not go through JAMB? What is the actual offence? Why did it take almost 4 yers to fish them out? If the entry was gained illegally, then some officials' heads must roll on the ground.

I used to think that I was the only one having this problem, not until I came across this thread. I've been battling with it for over 4 years now, only on my airtel line though. I normally add them to the Blacklist with Kaspersky Mobile Security, just like someone earlier suggested. I have hundreds of the numbers on my Black records. I wish there's another way to stop the menace, even though I don't know how it started.
So how did you solve the problem because I am still battling with mine and they getting more daring than ever? shocked shocked

Christianity EtcRe: Have You Ever Seen An Angel Before? by 2Mekus: 4:05pm On Feb 02, 2012
I haven't seen one knowingly, but I have had feelings of their presence around me.  One day, I came out of an office and as I opened my car door suddenly I started thanking Jesus.  I didn't really know why I was thanking Him because nothing extra ordinary happened to me at that moment.  So a voice said to me 'why are you thanking Him'.  I ignored that voice and continued thanking Him while I steered my car ready to join the traffic.

Now, I was to join the traffic by cutting across the busy road to be on the right side of the lane.  As I accelerated to avoid being hit by a vehicle from my left side and at same time avoid being hit also by a car coming behind, a young lady wanting to cross the road suddenly stepped in front of my car and became confused.  She couldn't cross and couldn't go back.  She was just fidgeting right in the middle of the road.  I slammed hard on my brake with both feet and the car came to a loud screech inches away from her legs.  People shouted and hurled insults at the obviously petrified woman.

But a voice filtered into me saying. "That was why you were thanking Jesus".  It sure feels good to have Him around you.

there's a software called SRS call blocker which can allow you to block numbers with a certain sequence of digits like your 234547. However, it seems you use a Samsung (as per the blacklist function) - this works well on Blackberry
Please how do I get this SRS and no my phone is iphone. I do not want to do away with the sim 'cos I have used this number since inception of GSM in this country. Most of my contacts both local and international reach me through it.

There is something about that house that bothers on mystic.

(1) The occupants of the former building on the site were forcefully ejected and their properties thrown out

(2) It is the second time that an uncompleted building would be collapsing on the same spot and the area is not waterlogged

(2) The ownership tussle over the land has been in court for over three years and when one of the parties won, he sold it to a new owner that erected the present collapsed building on the foundation laid before the tussle started

Imagine no ambulance,so they expect every trapped person to die there, what a hopeless country.

May the souls of the departed RIP and may GOD grant their families the fortitude to bear the loss.
There was an ambulance actually that was shuttling between the site and the hospital once a body was excavated.

To start with, they have a stable public power supply for years which stands them out as more realistic to achieve their target than Nigeria.

Two, we have heard stories of plans to make NEPA/PHCN work for years from successive Nigerian governments without success. So, what makes you think this companies licensed now will deliver in four years time. Obasanjo was banging his fist on the table in front of TV cameras swearing that "NEPA MUST WORK. I SAY NEPA MUST WORK'. That was in 1999 when he came on board. Where are we today?

Three, there are people licensed to build oil refineries here in Nigeria for the past 9 years and they are yet to clear any ground for any work to commence.

Ghana’s ruling government has concluded plans to begin export of electric power to Nigeria and other West African countries by 2015.
The country’s Vice President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, who unfolded the plan in Accra, on Tuesday, said the government has already embarked on extensive expansion of power infrastructure to enable them achieve the project.

Mahama explained that a key motivation for the investment was that Ghana presently has competitive advantage in the area of power supply over other neighbouring countries, including Nigeria, which is still grappling with massive power deficit for its estimated 150 million citizens.

The vice president, who spoke at a summit on Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Compact Two in Accra, said the country intends to consolidate on its existing energy infrastructures by exploring alternative sources of supply, including solar power and biomass resources, to ensure that the target of selling power to other West African countries was achieved by the next four years.

Mahama, who underscored the imperative of stable energy in the economic development of his country said Ghana was partnering the United States Government to realize the dream, stressing that raising the nation`s power generation would in addition create wealth and alleviate poverty among her citizens. It was in the light of that initiative that the Millennium Challenge Account Compact two was organized to seek ways of funding power generation and transmission and uninterrupted power supply.

Under the arrangement, the country intends to increase her current 2000 megawatts of electricity to 5000 megawatts with the hope of selling surpluses to needy countries including Nigeria. Also speaking, Ghana’s deputy minister of Energy, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini explained that the country would require about $1.7billion to meet its quest for universal access to power supply, pointing out the President Arthur Mills government had already received about $966.55million from bilateral and multilateral institutions in that regard.
Alhaji Fuseini said there was a` shortfall of about $729million against which background it considered MCA compact two was considered useful.

IT would be recalled that Ghana has one of the largest dams in the world had in 2009 celebrated her ten years of uninterrupted power supply. Authoritative sources say that the Akosombo Dam built by late President Kwame Nkrumah has the potential to supply the entire West Africa with electricity if fully utilized.

It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan had shortly after being sworn-in in May reviewed the nation’s power roadmap, raising fears that Nigeria may continue to live with power shortages in the foreseeable future.
