DRC could be disqualified as they made 4 substitutions at four different stoppage in the 2nd half.

Benin has appealed and a DQ could be imminent.

Benin have themselves to blame! Only needed a draw or a win at home to Tanzania but lost. Only needed a draw against us to qualify for AFCON lost too. Too much to take for the fans!

How CAF WCQ rules could prevent Africa from being represented by its best 5 nations at the World Cup
PhysioTEA

The second round of the CAF FIFA World Cup Qualifiers is almost over with four African teams already advancing to the third round of the qualification process.

According to the rules, the 10 nations who top their respective groups in the second round will be drawn against each other in the third round with the 5 highest ranked teams according to the official FIFA rankings playing against the 5 least highest ranked teams. The 5 teams who emerge victorious in the playoff games will seal their qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup holding in Qatar.

This qualifying process is very different from that of the 2018 FIFA World Cup where the first two rounds involved a knockout procedure with the final 20 nations competing in 5 groups of 4 nations each. The nation that finished top in each of the groups qualified for Russia 2018.

**Nigeria finished as group leaders and qualified for the 2018 FWC where they played against Iceland

This time around, Africa is ultimately putting the fate if its 5 representatives at the World Cup in the hands of just two matches (with the lower ranked teams playing the first leg at home). This means that if any of the best teams fail to turn up for one game (say, the first leg), their World Cup dreams could end with that single match.

To put this into perspective, no other major continent in the world is deciding their top representatives at the World Cup based on a single two-legged tie.

In Europe, all nations are drawn into different groups with the nations that finish top qualifying automatically for the tournament. The best losers are then given a second chance with knockout matches.

In South America, all teams play each other in a single group with the top four teams qualifying and the fifth-placed team going into an intercontinental playoff.

**The South America WC qualifying process ensures that Brazil and Argentina can both qualify for every tournament

In the CONCACAF region (North America, Central America and Caribbean), the final round sees the best 8 teams all playing each other home and away with the top top three nations qualifying automatically and the fourth playing in the intercontinental playoff.

In Asia, the final round involves two groups of six nations each with the top two in each group making it to the World Cup. The third teams get a second chance in the playoffs.

The only exception, Oceania is a small continent which does not have an automatic slot and the best nation in the continent has to play in the intercontiational playoffs to get a chance of booking a ticket to Qatar.

The other continents try to ensure all (or as many of) their best teams qualify for the World Cup by creating a qualification process whereby their representatives that automatically qualify do so from groups and not just single two-legged ties. This means that even if the best teams slip up in one or two games, they still have other chances (group games) to show that they deserve to be at the World Cup.

To further elaborate on this, imagine Argentina (in South America) having to play against, say, Chile in a single knockout tie and Brazil had to play, probably, Uruguay. It means only two of these top four South American teams would be able to qualify for the World Cup instead of all four possibly qualifying through the group system.

In Europe, Italy are currently top of their group but second-place Switzerland have a better head-to-head record than the European champions. If it were to be a single two-legged tie determining who qualifies for the World Cup, the European champions would be out.

As it stands now in Africa, if Nigeria is able to seal qualification for the third round, the nation could face Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast or even Cameroon based on the rules (depending on which of the teams qualify). The top ranked team in Africa, Senegal (who have already sealed qualification for the third round), could also face any of these teams.

**Nigeria could face Egypt or Cameroon in the third round of the FIFA WCQ

Africa will have 5 representatives at the World Cup, but with the qualification process, those 5 teams may not necessarily be the 5 best teams in Africa. Hopefully, the qualification process for the 2026 World Cup will be more like that of the 2018 World Cup where the Africa's representatives were decided directly from group matches in the final round.

I completely disagree with this write up. Africa is on course to producing its best possible 5 teams. From the outcomes of the matches from the different groups, thus Far, the top teams have emerged winners or are in pole positions to top.
FIFA'S ranking matrix in the last few years has ensured that the ranking of each team is close to their actual strength. From the African qualifies so far, the top 10 are actually the top 10 in Africa, and pairing the top 5 ranked teams against the other 5 will definitely produce 5 strong African teams.

Lord Luxembourg cannot do well against well drilled teams anymore. That's because he's old and not because he lacks the quality.

Serbians are so tall and well drilled. They played Portugal as if they were at home. In fact they played like the world champions, purpose possession with intention to kill the game.

Someone said Nigeria can win the world cup. Can we beat this Serbian team? LMAO.

Gavi; I watched the Spanish game after Por vs Serbia game. I watched till the very end Gavi is so good, too good for a 17 year old. Even the Spanish crowd chanted his name damn

Spain needs a striker or finisher. They are sometimes toothless in attack.

Pedri and Gavi under Xavi....Lol!!!
