Hmm that's a good one. Not sure about that but I can't think of any off the top of my head

Right off my head, Finidi against Bayern Munich in 1996.

Andrew baba,Yes coach and No coach.

Question to ask do we really have the synergies possessed by the teams our players features week in week out, check out our quality in the midfield and compare it to that of Villarreal or Leicester team.

Andrew, until we address the real issue which is our midfield,no coach will succeed with Ndidi,Etebo,Aribo formation .When Jay jay left Mikel was able to fit in though not as Okocha does it.Time to have real midfielder to dictate the pace....am not really sold on Aribo again cos he was damn too poor against Ghana and his performance in Afcon was average and Iwobi is on and off player cos on a good day by now Iwobi should be our real man in the midfield with Ndidi.

Check out,Calvin Bassey performance against Lyon,Iheanacho against man utd,Osimehn recent scoring spree,Awoniyi performance this season,Onuachu always on headlines,Sanusi doing it with Porto,Maduka good with Rotterdam,Iwobi recent form,Sadiq scintillating performance this season,Chuckwueze net a winning goal against Bayern but these guys and the rest performances in GWG always poor.

Imagine a team with Victor Osimehn,Paul Onuachu,Taiwo Awoniyi underperforming just due to bad midfield,no clear cut chances from our midfield, damn disjointed on the field, always playing like strange fellows.

In coming coach must sat down and find lasting solution to the sorry state of our midfield. How I wish Iwobi can come alive and shoulder the responsibility just like he is doing in Everton of late.

To rePair our midfield, we have to tolerate Players from obscure leageues and see what they can do.
Below are a list of midfielders that we should try in our friendlies. The next friendlies should be used to exPeriment with our midfield

1. Ovie Ejaria
2. Kelechi nwakali
3. Rabiu Ibrahim
4. Alhassan yusuf
5. Iyayi Believe Atiemwen
6. Jack IPalibo
7. James Igbekeme

etc and others i dont know or remember
We dont have many good midfielders in the toP leagues of euroPe but
that does not neccesarily mean they are not good.
in Particular Alhassan Yusuf must be considers as he is doing wll for royal antwerP in Belgium

Excellent points Sir.

Mikel appeared on the scene at the twilight of Okocha's career just like the Ikeme and Enyeama situation.

Even if Pep or Klopp opt to coach the SE today, there will be very limited improvements. We don't have the right distribution of talented players at the moment. The CAM or CM role is still void. Goalkeepers are struggling.

There should be extensive and transparent scouting for the next U-17s and U-20s unlike what we saw the last time. The next Okocha or Mikel will most likely be homegrown.

So we should invite a clubless nwakali that hasn't had up to 180 minutes of first team football this year, a 31 year old Rabiu Ibrahim, relatively unknown Ipabilo, iyayi and whatever to the Super Eagles as what?

The record is plausible. We haven't had a good number of Nigerian players play Champions league football over the past 15years.

Well, it is better to manage a second hand car than to be walking around.
They are the best we have now.
At least Rabiu Ibrahim plays regularly for his clu andis a natural AM.
Also, Iyayi was part of the dinamo zagreb team that reached the europa later stages and had an assist against totenham.

How the heck do we have these folks banging in goals week in, week out but fail to secure a simple win over Ghana in 2 legs?

We are slowly turning into another Ivory Coast.

wingers not crossing especially moses simon and chukwueze...

strikers trying to score extravagant goals instead of simple goals especially Osimhen.

strikers and wingers who don't drop deep to help the midfield and defense especially simon, dennis, chukwueze for the S.E.

strikers who don't drop deeper than the opposition defense line and fail to beat the offside trap especially Osimhen.
e.t.c.

there were counter-attacking situations in the Ghana match where Moses Simon could just run and cross or pass into the box but he always chose to slow down or stop so that he can try to dribble the Ghanaian or opposition defenders which stops the S.E counter attacking opportunities.

the goal Chukwueze scored against Bayern, If Moses Simon was in Gerard Moreno's shoes Moses Simon will not cross or pass into the box for Chukwueze to score. Moses Simon would have waited for the opposition defenders to catch up and regroup before losing possession to the opposition..

then bad coaching from E:guavoen...

First leg really hurt them bad.

A competent team should be able to make light work of Madrid. Too many chinks in the armor of Real that a good team can exploit.

You are right about Moses Simon being on Gerard Moreno shoes and won’t pass that ball ,but another question you should ask if which of our midfielders can do that brilliant build up like Dani Parejo deceiving more than a player

Ndidi , onyeka , Nwakwali , iwobi, aribo and any midfielder who has other midfielders or forward players who drop deep around him can have brilliant build up like Dani Parejo..

that goal started with Estupinan to Parejo to Lo celso to Moreno to Chukwueze.

Another thing to note is Gerard Moreno drops deeper than the opposition defense line and sometimes to midfield then runs with the ball with the intention to pass or cross into the box or shoot at the goalkeeper..

Another thing to note is that the Super Eagles formation has less midfielders than Villareal's formation and build-up for the S.E is usually from the full-backs or defenders to the wingers to the strikers or the wingers take the shots and NOT from the full-backs to midfielders to another midfielder to winger to striker to another winger then winger or striker takes the shot..

Villareal had four midfielders on the pitch Capoue, Lo Celso , Parejo and Coquelin, In their formation, Lo Celso can also make forward runs and temporarily play as a winger or right wing forward role and Parejo also makes forward runs and plays a central forward role.

for the Chukwueze goal, Coquelin had been substituted for Pedraza who is a winger but can also play as a left back this also means he can play as a left midfielder and even if he wasn't involved in the build up to the goal.. Villareal still technically had 4 midfielders on the pitch or at least 3 midfielders on the pitch..

these 4 Villareal midfielders drop deep to help the defense that's why they could build up like that, If it was in the Super Eagles there will be nobody in Lo Celso's position to receive the ball then pass to Moreno , so Dani parejo ( or the S.E midfielder ) will have to use a long ball over the opposition midfield and defense to get the ball to Moreno's position and since its a long ball it means the opposition defenders can head the ball away..

what the Dani Parejo pass to Lo Celso means is that at least one opposition player will be drawn out of position to get the ball from Lo Celso and there were 3 Bayern players on Dani Parejo so that pass alone took out 3 Bayern players.

you're making me write essay. grin grin grin grin

. You nailed it bro. The issue is midfield simple. Forget sentiment , our players aren't that bad. Just get a good midfield combination( at least someone that can dictate play even if the person Is in obscure league)and a SOUND COACH that can make do with what we have. We lost because of bad coaching not personnel PERIOD.

It's not just about intelligence it's also about if there are other players around him making forward runs he can pass to.

If it was S.E under Eguavoen and his coaching crew there will be no other player to pass to or the players won't make forward runs they'll just stand by parejo side waiting for him to pass.

And most of the forward players will already be in front waiting for the ball to magically reach them.

So we should invite a clubless nwakali that hasn't had up to 180 minutes of first team football, a 31 year old Rabiu Ibrahim, relatively unknown Ipabilo, iyayi and whatever to the Super Eagles as what?

To waste another 4 years trying to build a team? Una really deserve Eguavoen. Smh
Sir,during afcon I was of opinion that Aribo was better but watching Ghana match again.....Nwakili just need to shake up his career or he forget it.Alex Iwobi should have been a sure bet based on his pedigree but only Ndidi looked convincing.

Nigeria midfield presently is an eyesore and the worst in super eagles history....this is a country that produced Henry Nwosu,Etim Esin,Austin Okocha,Wilson Oruma,Mikel Obi and like of James Obiorah,Emma Ebiede,Dodo Avaa,Duke Udi,Christian Obodo,Haruna Lookman then what is the issue now, something must be wrong somewhere and we must fix it ASAP.

To be fixed urgently, goalkeeping and midfield....a good goalkeeper trainer to psyche Okoye and Uzoho up and give us at least two talented keepers to compete with the duo.....our midfield need massive reenforcement.
