Okocha reveals reason for early retirement

The former midfield maestro stated that not getting enough minutes on the pitch hastened his decision to quit the round leather game.

Austin Jay Jay Okocha has attributed his decision to retire active football early to lack of enough playing time.

The ex-Nigeria international who dazzled the footballing world with his sizzling skills and breathtaking performances made the shock decision to leave the game in 2008. According to the Olympic Gold medallist, reduced minutes on the pitch of play triggered his exile from the round leather game, at the age of 34.

“I must confess that [not getting a lot of playing time] was one of the main reasons why I retired from playing at a very young age,” Okocha told media men at a press conference organised by Star Times.

“I believe that it is not worth it to train from Monday to Friday just to have 20 minutes on the pitch or sit on the bench on Saturday. I am very competitive.”

The midfielder who last represented Nigeria in 2006, appeared for the Super Eagles 75 times with 14 goals to his name.

EXCLUSIVE – Monaco Make Etebo Their Prime January Target As Replacement For Want-Away Pair

Owngoalnigeria.com understands that French giants Monaco will swoop for Nigerian midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo once the pair of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Djibril Sidibe are sold.

We gathered that Monaco have been tracking Etebo for a while, and the expected departure of Bakayoko could see them firm up their interest in the Nigeria international.

Etebo is viewed as a like for like replacement for Bakayoko by Monaco, and a bid in the region of £10m could seal his capture according to an intermediary close to the player.

”I got a call from Monaco’s man in Portugal about Etebo, especially as the departure of Bakayoko looks likely in January. I told them what I think he will cost, around £10m precisely. So let see”, he told Owngoalnigeria.com on the condition of anonymity.

Bakayoko and Sidibe are reportedly high on the wish list of Chelsea coach Antonio Conte who is very eager to bolster his squad despite the fact that they are leading the pile in the English Premier League.

As reported by various media outlet, the Blues are prepared to use the £60m windfall due to them from the sale of Oscar to Shanghai SIPG as a bait to lure Monaco into selling the coveted duo, with a blow your mind bid when the transfer window opens in January.

EXCLUSIVE : FIFA Won’t Let Nigeria Captain Mikel Leave Chelsea On Loan In January, Unless…..

Chelsea current second longest serving player John Obi Mikel won’t be leaving Chelsea on loan this January, Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The Nigerian has been frozen out of the first team set up at Chelsea by coach Antonio Conte, but even though he will most definitely leave the team in January, a loan move won’t be the case.

Per FIFA regulations a player in the final six months of his deal can’t leave on loan to another team, and Mikel is in the final six months of his contact at Chelsea after 11 years at the club.

Mikel can only leave on a permanent transfer which best explains the reason why the Super Eagles captain is weighing up offers properly before committing to any of the clubs intrested in his services.

Inter-Milan, Marseille and three teams in China namely Shanghai SIPG, Hebei Fortune and Shanghai Shenhua have all enquire about his availability this winter, when the transfer window opens.

It is however believed that Mikel wants to remain in Europe, due to family reasons instead of a move to China where he will definitely earn more.

ChisomEgbuchulam still hopes to join Etoile despite Rangers u-turn - source

Chisom Egbuchulam - Rangers star

by Samm Audu

Rangers may have raised several red flags for Chisom Egbuchulam to join Etoile du Sahel, but the star striker has fallen in love with the Tunisian champions and will very much wish to sign for them.

It appears transfer negotiations between Rangers and Etoile have broken down after the Nigeria champions claimed their Tunisian counterparts were trying to poach the player and that they never gave their blessing for him to fly out to Tunisia.

However, the player himself is eager to play for Etoile because he has been offered a very financially rewarding deal, which could also be a springboard to a move to a bigger club and a bigger league.
“Chisom wants to play for Etoile,” said a source who is familiar with the entire negotiations.

“They have offered him a very lucrative three and half year deal and at 24 he knows he has to make the move outside Nigeria now.”

The Tunisians are expected to reopen transfer discussions later this month as they are not deterred in their pursuit of the star forward, who fired 16 goals last season as Rangers won the Nigeria league.

Turkishleague leaders insist they won't sell 'growing' Musa Mohammed

Musa Mohammed carried shoulder high by fans of his Turkish club

by Samm Audu

High-flying Turkish league leaders Istanbul Basaksehir have made it very clear they will not be selling Nigeria international Musa Mohammed in January.

Defender Musa has enjoyed a decent run in the Turkish cup with the Istanbul outfit and manager Abdullah Avci, who was a former Turkey national team coach, has said he has been very satisfied the right back is growing very quickly and well.

“Musa’s club have made it very clear they are not interested in selling him because he is growing very well and quickly too according to the coach,” a top source informed.

“That is not to say he may not go on a loan so as to get more game time and experience.”

The former Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets skipper has yet to make his league debut for IBB, but top club officials have maintained he still has a future at the club.

At 20, he is the youngest defender at the club with the oldest being Yalcin Ayhan, who is 34 years.

His club are top of the Turkish Super Lig with 35 points after 15 rounds of matches, three points clear of champions Besiktas.

They are also cruising in the cup after winning three straight games in the group phase.

In the last two seasons they have featured in the UEFA Europa League after finishing within the top-4 in Turkey.

Mickael2:

One of them has to start. And seriously Oxlade isn't a great option at all, they are just managing him because he peaked at a time when Iwobi was declining, but he isn't top quality. Ramsey is out and he isn't even a LMF, the only other option would be to switch Alexis back to LMF but that would limit his current form. So Iwobi has to start and he needs to learn how to last the entire game else they might be looking for an upgrade come January.

Akpom should be joining the first team come January, but breaking into the team is another thing entirely

Iwobi declining? At such a young age? I guess u meant suffered a dip in form, which is normal with every young kid who just broke out. Rashford comes to mind, he has been abysmal lately. They will get their MOJO back, besides Ramsey once passed through this stage of loss in form before and after his career threatening injury(when he broke out) . It happens to some kids and their growth stalls while in some, their growth continues after that stage. I wouldn't say Berahino is declining neither would I say Balde etc are declining. They may end up not fulfilling their potentials as they once looked very promising. But remember in every Keita Balde, there is an Adama Traore, and inversely, in every Vieto, there is a Cuenca. Plz Iwobi ain't declining just yet, just a dip in form. He was awesome against City though he needs to be mindful of his weight.

Agent Confirms Inter Milan, Spanish Team Are Interested In Mikel But Leaves Out Marseille

John Obi Mikel’s agent John Shittu has confirmed that his client is attracting interest from Inter Milan and a number of teams based in England, Germany, Spain and China ahead of the opening of the transfer window.

It has been widely reported that Marseille are studying the possibility of signing the Nigerian captain but his English-based intermediary did not mention France as one of his possible destinations next month.

“It’s very likely he will leave Chelsea in January. There are many teams interested in the player, ” Shittu told The Sun UK.

“In the past we spoke with Inter Milan but now there are a lot of Italian clubs that want him. I will not reveal the names, but there are other Italians teams on his trail.

“And beware: even in UK, Spain, Germany and even in China know the value of the player and requested information about him.”

Mikel has played 376 games for the Blues and has netted six goals.

forgiveness:

Considering the huge sum of money the government has invested and is about to, on infrastructures recently. Especially, the constructions and renovations of 5 international airports and few local airports, Construction of new airport in Lekki Lagos, constructions of standard gauge railway across the country, building of new dams, Construction of Mono rails in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Calabar etc I expected the government to use this opportunity to host big events like the world cup or the Olympics to showcase our development to the world and recoup the funds extended in these investments but.......

However, I think if we succeed in executing these projects or at least prove to FIFA that we are committed to these projects, we will have only few areas to address which are the stadiums.

To host the world cup we need 12 stadiums with at least 40,000 seating capacity for the group stages to the quarter finals, at least 60,000 for the Semi-finals and 80,000 capacity for the final.

But we only have one 60,000 capacity stadium in Abuja and two above 40,000 capacity in Jos (44,000) and Lagos(45,000).

Though the National stadium Lagos has been abandoned for 12 years, It can be reconstructed or renovated to have 80,000 capacity.

Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium is 38,000 capacity while Muhammadu Dikko stadium Kastina, MKO Abiola stadium Abeokuta and Tesilim Balogun stadium Lagos are 35,000 capacity.

Good cities like Calabar, Kano and Kaduna only have stadiums with 16,000 while Enugu and Ibadan has stadiums with the capacity of 22,000 and 25,000 respectively.

Akwa Ibom stadium seating capacity is just 30,000 and I think it can be adjusted to 40,000.

What this means is that we have to build at least 5 stadiums in those 5 good cities, upgrade Lagos, Uyo, Port Harcourt stadiums to 80,000 and 40,000 and renovate Jos, Abuja and Tesilim Balogun stadiums to international standards.

The remaining one stadium can be chosen from Abeokuta, Kastina or Warri grin provided they are able to fulfill the other criteria like standard of hotels, transportation and security.

If we want to do it together with Ghana, I don't think it is a bad idea. But Ghana only has two stadiums with 40,000 capacity in Accra and Kumasi. Meaning they have to build 2 or 3 new stadiums. grin

We will be contending with Canada if we want to host the world cup. shocked grin

I think this is a welcome development.

But the sport minister we have no get vision. grin

On point
If we co-host with Ghana, the Ghanaians may even agree to Naija holding both semifinals and the final because Nigeria is a much bigger country cheesy

If Nigeria were to go it alone, I'll add Calabar, Abeokuta, and Jos.

Lagos will have two venues. Like you said, the National stadium could be demolished, and in its place, a 75,000 seater football-specific stadium could be built (whose capacity can be reduced to 40k after the WC). The other Lagos venue would be the proposed stadium to be built in Lekki by private developers, which can have a 30k capacity.

Bear in mind that FIFA may likely expand the World Cup to 40 teams, so that might lead to a reduction in the minimum stadium capacity required to host the event.

Nigeria as of now don't have enough stadium, only Abuja and maybe uyo are up to that level for now. Nigeria should instead bid for the Fifa women world cup
is it not to upgrade the other stadiums?

Between 2017-2022 can't we upgrade six or so stadiums?

Etebo Responds To Spurious Monaco Link : I Have Not Been Contacted

Shortly after stepping out of the Estádio Marcolino de Castro pitch on Thursday night, Super Eagles rising star Oghenekaro Etebo responded to spurious speculation linking him with a transfer to Monaco in the January transfer.

Anderson Esiti Takes Walk Of Shame In Gent Loss To Anderlecht

Anderson Esiti was shown a straight red card in Gent’s 3-2 loss toAnderlecht in a Belgian First Division match held at the Ghelamco Arena on Thursday night.

Gent were reduced to ten men after the defensive midfielder was sent off for a tackle on Bram Nuytinck, though replays suggested that referee Lambrechts was conned by the Dutch defender into dismissing the Nigeria international.

Known for his physicality, Esiti last took the walk of shame in a league match back in February 2015 while defending the colours of Estoril versus Benfica, prior to today’s meeting.

Lukasz Teodorczyk (2) and Alexandru Chipciu registered their names on the score sheet for Anderlecht, while
Danijel Milicevic bagged a brace for the home team.

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon was the other Nigerian player on parade at Ghelamco Arena.

The Nigeria international is oozing confidence ahead of the visit of the Cherries to Stamford Bridge on December 26.

“Good training session today, working hard ahead of our next big game against Bournemouth ” tweeted Victor Moses.

Do you really believe that Iwobi is better than the Ox

there is absolutely ZERO comparison there. Beside speed(and most Arsenal players don't even need that, Ozil, Giroud,Ramsey...) Oxlade has got NOTHING on Iwobi, I mean nothing as in NO THING!

You are being biased.

So you think speed is just a mere minor attribute, take away speed from Walcot, Martel, Vardy and our guy Musa and what's left, not much. In the premiership pace is a game changer. I could add Sanchez but he has pace and so much more a whole lot more.

Ox has scored 6 and Iwobi has scored 2 hmmm Compare then game time, the Ox has played 12 and Iwobi 13.

You still think your being objective and balanced

Iwobi class above Oxlaide Chamberlain is too wide. Oxlaide might be older but they are not mates.

I be Naija but now this is real Naija bias.

Right now if these players were to be put on the open market what would be thier prices tags and who would be the most expensive.

Let's examine the issue rationally and objectively if possible statistically. Did you consider the very basic statistical comparism I made between them At the end of the day end product is and will always be a defining factor for overall quality.

My objective opinion is that there are far fewer players around like the Ox as opposed to Iwobi.
