Iwobi takes his first corner for Arsenal grin

I think with Iwobi's technique he should be taking corners and free kicks

The only decent dead ball kicker we have is Etebo and he's not even a first teamer. Being easily the tallest team in Africa, corners and free kick is what we should capitalize on

FIFA rankings started in 1993 and between 1993 and 1994, we qualified for the WC and won the nations cup. That is why we were 5th. The ranking started in the middle of a good period. Even if we win the nations cup and qualify for the WC now, we will not be 5th.

Defenders these days are more versatile. Attack and defend... Defenders then, mainly defended. Today's defenders offer more.

I never rated Eguavoen to be honest and he broke my heart in the Italy game. I liked Iroha but he hardly crossed the ball in his career. A right footed left back.

Icon4s come and save me o. Which defenders in those days, Keshi was a defender in those days aND was versatile going forward, Iroha was a good attacking left back, that sweet 94 goal against CIV always a joy to watch. Yes eguavoen broke our hearts but what have we had since then? uche the gentle giant was a rock for fenerbache for several years. That team sweet die, the wc finalists saw hell in our hands. We should have played 10 against 11 for the most part of the game even though naivety cost us too. The best Nigerian team by far.

Iroha was never an attacking left back biko. That ivory coast goal was once in a blue moon venture forward. Iroha was a hard tackling defender.

The Italy we faced just finished from a disastrous group outing where they finished third. Beating us gave them the boost to reach the final.

The 1998 team was better than 1994 in terms of quality.

Please let's not get carried away. Right now, I would still rate the likes of Morocco, Senegal, and even Egypt ahead of us. I think the AFCON will expose us.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

I agree with you on the opinion that the AFCON would expose us. My "wanting us yo win" wouldn't make us win. Rather, hardworking, good tactics, excellent man-management and the right player selection with luck on our aide should increase our chances of success.

It will be sad if we don't win or at least reach the semis because this team has received unprecedented support compared to the other teams (historically).

Who,in your own opinion among the current super eagles (let's say from 2013 to now) has the quality to play with the class of ’94 and who would he bench in the first eleven??

Quality that ended in a 4 to 1 bashing. Have you forgotten that the best performers in the 98 team were in the 94 team. Mutiu, okocha, oliseh, finidi etc. Is it mobi oparaku that is better, or the aged rufai of 98 better than the younger and more agile rufai. Even ukechukwu in 98 was slower and older, yekini himself of 98 not the same.

Okechukwu was good but not great. Our 1994 side should have beaten Italy comfortably. That Italian side only managed to qualify from the group stages. They were 3rd in their group.
We should have win the match if we took our chances and injury to Amokachi and Amuneke crippled the attack front line ,however the Italian played in the final means they were good side but struggle to qualify from group stage .

I am not talking down on the team. That was our best opportunity to reach the WC final. If we had beaten Italy, the way to the final was very feasible. The Italy team was not that great.

The 1998 WC had more teams and was a tougher tournament to win. Even at that, Denmark that beat us did not have better individual players.

The only player that would have made the starting 11 of the 94 Team was Vincent Enyeama. I see people mentioning Mikel and Victor Moses. Who Moses wan bench? Finidi or Amuneke? Even the Maestro Okocha did not get his starting position on a platter of Gold, due to the presence of Thompson Oliha, e come be Mikel?
