Bro. are you sure that it's a taboo in Yoruba culture? Cos I saw many Yoruba men living in a house that was shared to their wife by their parent.

These end time friends you have that just keep having marital problems up and down all over the globe. I pray it doesn't reach you ooo. Just joking.

Are you saying you think arranged marriages are better?

Lol. When you get to a certain age, an average sociable African can easily have 50-100 married friends & acquaintances. And truly scattered across the globe, though you said it jokingly but actually spot on. Considering that around 50% of marriages fail for many reasons, I actually have more stories to tell.

Well, Asians practice arranged marriages a lot. While it's not all perfect with them, they seem to be quite successful.

The idea of falling in love and marrying, from separation & divorce figures, is not working.

Some say women stayed in unhappy marriages in the past because they had little options.
While that may be partly true, I think people increasingly go into marriage with the wrong notion.

People think it's all going to be lovely, romantic, easy and a fairytail. Love will see us through they claim. But bad news is that people do fall out of love.

Well, a large number would turn out to be the opposite.

No amount of "That shall not be my portion IJN" can change the fact that one should prepare for various permutations, many unexpected stuff, challenges and more in marriage.
When the going gets tough, lot of people just "check out" like Andrew. grin cheesy

For me I don't see anything wrong living in a house built by your humble, respectful and well cultured wife.

But for the selfish wife without manners please don't live in a house built by her, because she will always frustrate your life with the "this house is my hard earned money", forgetting that wives are helpmates to their husbands.
Sorry o. But don't you men do/say the same thing to your wives?

My father did an elaborate foundation on our family house. The piece of land was bought with money belonging to my late brother. The building was raised by mum and occasionally by my dad. My mum now claims full ownership of the house. Recently my dad did keep some of his stuffs in a spare uncompleted bathroom of the house. My mum asked him to remove them and when he refused...hmmmmm. My mum and younger brother got up at 4am and removed the things. When my dad tried to protest he was vandalised. I have seen enough to live in house built by a woman. Not even if that woman was half angel, half human...

Of course do men have a choice now that they don't have any useful job to do, they should settle so their wives can house them.

Correction, history has proven that our ancestors were wiser than the whites when it came to issues of the family.so there for i would want to assure you that nothing was done without a reason.you either are not familiar with your native culture or just didn't care to find out why?

so many things were a taboo for no reason during old days, things has changed now so there's nothing wrong with that. so far the wife still has all the respect for her hubby.

I like your mindset. At the same time, I think a woman should be able to say that she built her house by herself. There's nothing wrong with that. Better still, she can say it belongs to you both. Personally, I'd like to feel fulfilled as a woman too especially when crossing major milestones. But it's still her choice though.

It's not about not wanting a better life/world for your wife. Note- no matter how humble a woman is, she would still exhibit the woeman in her in one way or the other. They are naturally wired to act so.
Youre paranoid bro, to generalize is to be an eediot.

I can't deny the fact that men do say such also, but for a real man that is the last thing he will say.
Even God who created man and woman identified the existence of NAGGING WIVES. Living in a house built by a nagging wife will nail you life forever.

Wonderful, lovely, caring, motherly, wife materials are still existing, if I see such I will live with her with joy.

My Mum is a wonderful woman......
Re: Can You Live In A House Built By Your Wife? by Memejem: 5:21pm On Mar 31, 2016
Yea I agree with you. But whether the marriage is arranged or through love I beleive both parties should be willing to marry each other. Because whether you love your spouse or not, if you don't get along with them the marriage will collapse. People in this day and age will not endure being unhappy in a union for years where there are options available to to them to be happier outside of marriage.

This isn't limited to problems of infidelity or domestic abuse. Sometimes people are just incompatible together. They just don't get along or like each other. Or they change as the years pass. I don't agree with divorce but if people are not followers of religion. They will separate. And many separate amicably. It doesn't have to be a big drama.

I don't look down on people who engage in arranged marriages as per thier culture if they are willing participants. But as for me, I wouldn't engage in such.

I guess some men will rather live in a face me I face you than live in a house built by their wife just because of ego. Your wife building a house doesn't mean you are poor. I know a rich man who never built a house any where in Lagos but was paying huge rent (one storey with boys quarters)in Lekki. After begging her husband to stop wasting money to no avail, his wife is now building a house for them without the man's support. Meanwhile this man has building in other parts of the country. His problem is that he 'hates' Lagos.

I am getting a house before I get married, if my wife gets another house it's fine with me, I am definitely not gonna have one house too. if I have a house in Abuja and others in other states, while she has some too in Abuja and I have to sell off one of my houses to run something. what's wrong in staying in her house till I get my stuff done.

To ladies out there, run your life to the fullest. buy the best of cars, buy houses, have investments, go on vacations. break out of this mentality that your life depends on marriage to one rich guy out there. become rich on your own, run things and be in charge of your life.

that way, you don't attract losers and insecure folks that think all they need to get a lady is money.

and lastly, never give in to pressure of marriage and marry below your level. don't marry someone you gonna bankroll the rest of your life. marry someone you can build and empire with.

that's my type of lady, that's what I am gonna train my daughter to be.

I think the scenerio here is not living in the house built by ur wife but the complexities that folows it.

A house built by a humble, respectful and submisive can acomodate the entire household. Hence, it is a family house. The wife would neither allow her relatives to humiliate her husband because she built the house. In this case, why wont i live in the house built by my wife.

On the other hand, an arrogant, boastful, disrespectful and querelsome wife will the opposite of the above. In this case, its a turn off to me. My two cent
