For me I don't see anything wrong living in a house built by your humble, respectful and well cultured wife.

But for the selfish wife without manners please don't live in a house built by her, because she will always frustrate your life with the "this house is my hard earned money", forgetting that wives are helpmates to their husbands.

gospel cheesy

Every wife was once Humble, Respectful and well cultured. That is why you married her in the first place. To avoid unnecessary embarrassment in the future it is best you don't even live in the house built by her or if you must make sure you give her more than half the costs of the house. Never be indebted to any woman(Especially Nigerian women), They will use it to embarrass you in the future.

Even if she is respectful you will still see the slightest thing she does as her being disrespectful. Something you wouldn't care about if it was your house. And what helpmate has got to do with building house is what I don't get. Men and their ego.

Try living in a house your wife is paying the rent and see before living in house your wife built.

Even if the woman is a pastor, you will regret your life.

Its a super taboo for me. Dem dey live house weh we men build sef, dem wan use wahala kill person. A man's relative no go get peace for him brother house bcus of wife let alone living in a woman's house

Its not even to be heard of..its a wrong formation to me. Life has made a man higher in brain than a woman. They may be richer though, but there's just this thing about men they'll never seem to understand.

No matter how nice they are, they're still women and their best position is to have a man to look up to especially on shelter issue.

Higher in brain really? Upon all, dem still first you for class. In fact, from your write up alone, it is obvious you are not as sound as you think you are.

What if you have your own and she has her own, won't you live in her's if need be?

We live in my own and she can rent her own out or do whatever she likes. Women are terrible people no matter how sweet you look at marriage from the outside. When you are inside then you would understand what I am saying

Should I honestly tell you guys why you are so scared? It is because you make us feel indebted to you for the things you do for us too. So you automatically assume that you would be treated the same way if the case was reversed. Change your views on your woman first, it is then you'll start building your true confidence such that it is not linked to your financial capability and yes, she would respect you all the same. I think this issue has more to do with your ego as men than we being disrespectful as women. The truth is a disrespectful woman is a disrespectful woman whether in your house or in hers. What usually happens in this scenario is that, you pick on things she does that you'd have probably overlooked if it was your house and tag her as starting to be disrespectful. When in the real sense, she was always that way. It is more about insecurity on your part really.

Its only in Nigeria that dis mentality is mostly found. What the hell is wrong with living in a house built by ur wife.
Y is it that men always regard any normal thing done by a woman as unacceptable?
Nigeria, we have a longer way to go. No wonder dis country is still underdevelop, cos we aint giving women the chance 2 contribute 2 its development. SMH 4 all the men that can not do a thing and yet they still claim ego when women dose it. (y on earth will I live in a rented apartment with my hubby when I have d money 2 build a house?)

Questions like this one always cracks me up. Firstly, does the husband have a house of his own? If yes then there's no problem living in another one built by the wife. If no, then there are deeper issues that needs resolving. Point #2: While building the house, did the husband know about it? If yes then he surely must have contributed in some way, if no then there are deeper issues that needs resolving. Finally, a woman can build a house, it's not a crime but tradition and culture demands she includes her husband's name on the deed. If the husband is fearful that she might throw him out one day or become unruly, including his name on the deed ensures such a problem is mitigated. All in all, it's a very complicated problem which requires handling with maturity.

Going by all the comments here, I suggest everyone stays in their house, husband in one, wife in another. grin This way, nobody can be thrown out. grin

But wait a moment, why don't they just build a FAMILY HOUSE TOGETHER?

I restrain myself from further comments because I do not feel like offending anyone or everyone here. grin

But when you build a house will you add you wifes name to the deed? If not then you are guilty of the same thing.

And you failed to see that the so called mentality is being propagated by a female? The question you replied to was made by a female.. And you turn around to say men have egos? Yes we have to keep our egos up because of women like the one you quoted..

I don't know what's wrong, especially we YORUBAs.... I see it as no biggie in as much as it won't lead her to giving me some type of attitude. My parents also had dis issue, I heard my mum bought her land before my Dad and she was already thinking of starting foundation.... Before her brother(my uncle) told her to stop working on it as it might raise tension amongst her husband's(my dad) family.... To cut the long story short, my mum joined hand with my dad to build his own house we the kids grew up to live in... Then after some years, some Government agency came around saying the land our property is on is a government owned land... That its either they resell the land to us or they demolish our house. It was really tough that year, but tank God we came out top at the end, my mum later built her own house(which we the kids so much love like ....) And my dad has his. My mum still under my dads roof. The problem why I think its Taboo is cos most of this women out here can't handle success, when their money start stacking up , they start to feel superior and egoism sets in. If my future wife can build her own house before me, its fine. Its more like a motivation for me to hustle even hard

you said wife not gf.... Remember I may have a job but still lack the financial capacity to build a house. Some wives are well to do than their husbands so its no crime in such circumstances.
