Good luck!

Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by connkg(m): 2:30pm On Jul 23, 2010
Debosky,
I don't have as much experience as this requires. Thanks for putting this up. Perhaps we can network better?

I look to take advantage of the construction of three new refineries, the PI Bill and Nigeria as a whole currently.
In the UK now, not gaining professional experience at the moment. Hope to visit Nigeria soon too,

Dear Professionals,

On march 2010, the Nigerian house of senate approved Business Analysis into the main stream of professional body and also approved to use the designated word "Chattered". This approval presents an opportunity to the interested and qualified Nigerians to augment their professional portfolio with internationally recognized Business Analysis certification.

Business Analysts are required in every organization as they provide tremendous value to the growth and continuity of the Business. With a Business Analysis Expert, an organization is well positioned even in the face of fiece competition. A Business Analyst review the business scope, strategy and future goal and reccomend the best strategy to initiate for the ultimate realization of the organizational objectives.

Business Analysts are in high demand and their value is never under-estimated across the continent.

In lieu of the above, Abaster Consulting and Training Ltd, a subsidiary of Abaster Consulting firm Canada has been approved by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) to offer Business Analysis program in Nigeria . IIBA is the body that regulates Business Analysis in the world.
For more information please send us an email at info@abasterconsulting.com.

Our SAP Training cut across all modules!!! Thanks

Hi guys, I am a young graduate of chem. engrg. I'm considering an Msc in Subsea engrg, petroleum engrg, environmental engrg or chem/process engrg. I hv interest in these course and can specialize in any of them. But my mind is telling me 2 go for chem/process engrg. The reason been that since I'm a chem engr, an Msc in chem engr will cover some gab of inexperience more than other areas. While on d other hand, it seems like d other areas hv more job opportunities in nigeria. I AM CONFUSED. Could u pls advice me on d course to go for considering its job opportunities and also d best UK/Scottish school for d course.
Thanks in anticipation. I appreciate.

Agbajen, it all depends on the career path you intend pursuing, there are so many courses out there that except you clarify your plans it would be difficult to recommend any.
I assume you already have a masters degree,

it all depends on u? where do u see urself in the next five yrs, where do ur interest lie?, ar u just goin with the trend cos evryone is heading there?
basically u hav a chemical engineering degree, dat is a solid a background!, wat u require is a specialist course, but dat depends on where ur interest lies? hav u had any work experience, gettin a MSC witout experience cud b frustrating attimes, but den waiting 4 work experience is also bad?
i wud advice subsea engrg! its unique, innovative and quite a few peeps hav dat quaification, so basically d competition is minimal compared to other disciplines

Hey
I'm interested in the oil and gas sector and I believe it must be an exciting industry. What does it take to work in the sector? especially for a young Nigerian graduate, with no experience but quick to learn?
Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by AjanleKoko: 7:00pm On Aug 09, 2010
^^
A good degree (2:1 or better), plus a postgrad degree (although not compulsory, becoming important these days).
Degree must be in a relevant field: engineering, finance/accounting, geosciences, law, etc.

Then apply to them. Usually they run recruitment exercises every year or so.
Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by debosky(m): 11:36pm On Aug 09, 2010
@ Kenny G

Seconded on the Campbell courses - they might be expensive, but they are well recognised within the industry.
Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by Allwell(m): 8:01am On Aug 10, 2010
@ Ajanlekoko
What about the lack of experience part? Doesn't it count?
I am aware that there are tons of people with good first degrees and post graduate degrees, what gives you the competitive edge? Moreover most of the oil servicing firms hardly advertise on the dailies so how do we get to hear of openings?
Sorry my questions seem much but i'd welcome your answers. Cheers!

You don't need experience to get a job in any of the oil and gas MNCs. And they do advertise in dailies. ExxonMobil recently ran some ads, so did Chevron. Shell do their SITP annual recruitment, though I am not sure if they have slowed down since the recession.
As per competitive edge, I am surprised at your question. You do tests and interviews and do your best. Usually they take the very best. Don't follow the story about Nigerian factor. If you do very well, they will take you.
Are you a Nigerian graduate or undergraduate based in Nigeria? I'm actually surprised that you ask these questions. If you fit the bill as described by my earlier post, and you live in Naija, you would know all these things.
Re: Chemical & Process Engineers Forum by Allwell(m): 3:51am On Aug 11, 2010
Thanks Ajanlekoko for your posts. They were really insightful. I'm a final year student of FUTO. My six months IT really got me wondering about the intricacies of the system. I wrote tons of applications to as much firm as i could but got replies from only Shell and Mobil.
I do a lot of followup on the dailies but don't get to see as much ads as you would expect. I get to see ads from Shell, Elf, Mobil (just the big multinationals). I know that there are smaller contracting firms out there and often wonder why they hardly advertise.
I guess i'd have to put my ears closer to the ground!
Thanks!

Although, i may not be able to give all the details you need but all i can say is that the safety segment has been effective compare 2 previous years, perhaps unlike in the Uk. Naija is steel an upcoming country.

Hello EEMEEKA, You are welcome to the Chemical engineering forum. It depends on what your dreams and aspirations are. Chemical Engineering is a very exciting field and you must have a good math background. It's not all Chemistry you know. smiley You could also visit both departments and find out which tickles you! I hope I've been helpful.
Cheers!
