This is very inspiring. At a very young age, you deal in several millions. It looks very easy from your article.

Which throws up more questions.

10 million naira transfers, to whom?He just told us he disguised his Nigerianess to get better bargains, so I assume his sellers are Cameroonians. That's an international transfer. We both know how that works and even the fastest takes 3 business working days and has lots of restrictions. Transfer just 1 million as an individual alone and your name would be flagged by EFCC. It is part of the anti money laundering act.

Also we have to understand most of these sellers are illiterate and unbanked and if you have ever been to any large agricultural market. It is a purely cash to goods business. Also, you can buy in bulk but there's a limit to the bulk buying. Just one person can never have 7000 baskets. You may have to pick 400 here, 300 there, 1000 from another. Which throws the hypothesis of transferring in bulk to one single person out of the window. So how did he pay them? Carried 56 or 70 million around?
Who was he transferring to then?

Also the tale about him sending J5s without escorts just opened his yansh. Yeah some Hausa biz men maybe trustworthy but you would be damned to send your goods without a motor boy whom you know from your side to follow them. The share scale of logistics involved would be amazing to pull off. It would be a nightmare .

Also you have to understand you pay duties on products to and fro Nigeria. Cameroon is not jus adamawa that you stroll over and they just allow you take produce out like that.

There are so many loopholes in his story that anyone that scratches the surface would know this is impossible and more like fairytale.

I guess he would have his audience who believe all these stories though, since most of his followers are just out of school or naive undergraduates who have no idea whatsoever.
I v done similar biz like this buying of goat in large quantity from Niger to Nigeria. And I must say I experienced all this things u said.
I am just following the thread because it looks like an interesting fictional film.

I have never thought of tomatoes. I will make my findings. Even though the funding is discouraging; I would advise any potential investor to try and source his supply from Nigeria, that would reduce cost price and minimise risk. If it can be gotten in Nigeria. I am confident I would get it

He said he could transfer 10mil per day through diamond bank mobile app.

But people need to calm down, business isn't that easy. There are people doing that business before he came in, he hasn't told us how he managed to beat them in their own game. I do large scale importation of electric cable presently and I know what I battle with the big boys in Alaba.

Again, I don't think he just invested 56mil in his first trip. He must have done some small scale purchase in the past to understand the route better.

He is really good. I think he made a good decision by going into the tomato business. It is a fast moving item that is run by Hausas. His ability to speak Hausa fluently enabled him fit in properly. I think those clamoring to join him should take note of this.

Brother, good day. I just sent you a PM... Can you please reply or send me a message or your number? I have some clarifications and enlightenment to ask from you. Thanks

This story can inspire the non-right thinking man in the wrong direction. Follow his steps and you will lose it all. Lies upon lies. Flying around naija in search of tomatoes, giving out free monies, phones and other valuables to every d!ck, tom and harry. Is that how you do your own business? And you call yourself a business guy. My friend, it is either you are blatantly lying, or you are just being extremely hyperbolic. Liessss.

Soujourn

Having made all research necessary, i called a fellow friend of mine and i told him of my findings and asked him to make his research down south in warri before coming back to lagos. I also informed him of my desire to travel up north in other to buy these tomatoes.

My Initial Market Survey Summary, based on Mile12 Market.

These were my findings-

1. SEVERAL KIND OF TOMATOES BASKET -
- Hausa basket ( used in zaria , kano and katsina )
- Jos Basket
- cameroon basket

2. TOMATOES MARKET IN NIGERIA: I found out that there are 4 major producing states for tomatoes in Nigeria-
a. Kaduna: Zaria
b. Kano:
c. Katsina: Funtua, Birin
d. Jos: Barkin Ladi, Anpam West, Mougu, keran
e. Bauchi: Til De Fulani, Maga-Man Gumo
f. Gombe: Dadin kowa

3. PRICING: i will try all my best to lump pricing on a subtopic  on its own. Due to the changes  in price, and all. also i will add it to my story as we go on

My Travel Soujourn and Experience.

I wont want to bore you with unnecessary stories so i will be brief, i will be sharing how we travelled from states to states in search for tomatoes.

Day1: LAGOS - JOS
We travelled to abuja via flight around 3pm and then board a sienna vehicle to Jos. Getting close to Jos around 10pm we were attacked by thieves close to the Jos Science High school Road., lucky enough our driver was fast to manuever and had go back. we go to jos around 12 Midnight.  we slept at jos to the next day

Day2: JOS SOJOURN.
-we visited the Farin-Gada market in to buy tomatoes. On getting there we were dissapointed there was nothing. The sellers attributed it to lack of tomatoes. We decided to meet the "Sarkin Kasuwa". I wont lie you Alhaji was to blunt to us ( Ymodulus and IzikJon ). He told us we wont get due to scarcity and that the few available are been sold to loyal customers. i got discouraged and stopped speaking to him.

-We then left and went down to mungo. we heard we can get from that area. we visited mungo, anpam west. we got nothing. we went all were we were advised too go. we literally slept among Fulanis even when we knew of the current fulani herdsmen fight. we spent 2 nights down in the bush. This is to tell you how deep into the bush we went.

.
Yeah. No tomatoes at Faringada market now, it's quite expensive too. But last month you could buy a basket of tomatoes for 200naira. I enjoyed using fresh tomatoes to make stew unlike now. So sad.

Day 4: JOS - BAYELSA
Based on the information we got from the two tomatoes Dealer we have in lagos. They informed us that to go into the republic of cameroon we have to go through Bayelsa.

- We boarded a sienna through Plateau Riders to Abuja. We paid him extra to take us to the Airport at Lugbe.

- From Abuja we flew to Portharcout, and then board a bus to Bayelsa. This was the shortest route as bayelsa had no Airport. On getting to Bayelsa town i was troubled i recalled that bayelsa had no bordering town to cameroon. Thanks to my Google Map.

- We immediately  called our Tomatoes  Dealers in lagos and informed them of developments. My Major Dealer then told me a driver came down from Cameroon now with Tomatoes. We collected the driver's  number and we asked him questions about getting there. We then found out that we have to go through Cross River Calabar via a local  government call Ikom.

-We then went back to Portharcout. On getting to Portharcout we heard from a passerby that Ph- Calabar  is a 7Hour Journey by Road, As there was no direct flight that day to Calabar. This we were not ready for. If you use to travelling by flight you will understand.

-On checking the various Airline websites, We flew back to Abuja then board another plane same day to AKWA-IBOM UYO. We did this as the direct flight to calabar that day left already. We also heard that UYO to Calabar is roughly an Hour Journey.

-We got to Uyo and then took a vehicle to Calabar. We booked an hotel slept over till next day.

Day5: Calabar - Ikom. To Cameroon.

-We Checked out the hotel at calabar around 6:20am morning and headed to a park Called Ayade or Ayare Park ( Cant recall exact spelling but the park/pronunciation  is owned by the Current State Governor of Calabar. So we heard).

- We got to Ikom Local Government. And then made several Enquiries about heading ro cameroon. We got to hear that we cant get into cameroon without running  several  papers or bribing our way through. We decided to follow the latter. As it was the most Viable at that time.

-When we got in. We made research about where tomatoes can be obtained. We heard several Places, which we declined and headed to an area Filled with Hausas. we mingled spoke and interact in Hausa with them and they directed us.

- We made necessary  findings, till we were set to start..

We were so happy because the tomatoes we saw at Cameroon was as so described.- In Hausa " Jajaye Kaman Jini" :- As Red As Blood, Big and succulent. Have a view below

Special ShoutOut to Josites*. We enjoyed our Relaxation at the Tuscany and Resort Centre.
Which hotel did you pass the night in when you got to Calabar? And which village did you follow to cross the boarder when you got go Ikom? Enjoying this story of yours, it sounds interesting. So how much profit will you make out of this tomatoes? You are a big woman oh, it's not easy to board a place just to go in search for tomatoes. Wonderful!

What are you talking about? In case you don't know, there is usually no form of documentation for almost all the transactions made in this type of arrangement. So only you know how you get people on death rolls.

You don't get the point. You can not just go to Sokoto or Borno and any hausa man you see there, you give him your money because he is an hausa man. The best approach is to go by referral. That is why even in American, they have credit bureau and people have credit history. You can walk to any store, and get things on credit because those credit companies acts as "referral" on your behalf. Information on how you have been paying when you owe any business is kept and made easily accessible to the stores.

There is a parallel to be drawn here, the store can only trust you to get their goods because you were referred by the credit company by way of a good credit history.

THE IDEA

Ater several thought of going into a new business which

Half way  into the month of April, i have been reading wide and far ( i read the papers daily), and i noticed that that the product TOMATOES has been on the High Side due to scarcity

- Even celebrities r complaining:
 https://www.nairaland.com/3090036/waje-bemoans-high-cost-tomatoes
- Lagosians complaining: https://www.nairaland.com/3091570/lagosians-groan-prices-tomatoes-skyrocket#45398311

This is in Contrast to early Febraury this year when the price of tomatoes was as low as N300 / Baskets due to a Glut in the market. You can read here for more Information as to that date ( https://www.nairaland.com/2939685/tomato-glut-hits-katsina-markets ).

Having taken note of this development, i headed my way for the popular Mile12 -Ketu Market in Lagos state.

Nice one @ymodulus, very adventurous...

Although I am not that impressed. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to bad-belle or anything, from a business-man point of view, you did great but from a scientist point of view, this is still the same 'running around in cycles' that has kept us in the dark.

My point, we need to start thinking of ways to preserve tomatoes! It sold for N300 per basket 3 months ago, now its N14,000 per basket. That is almost 500% increase in just 3 months. If we can get a preservative to keep tomatoes intact for just 4 months, we will be making smart profits without dodging bullets, dodging thieves, sleeping in the forests, taking flights upandan cheesy

Anyone that can pull this off should contact me with a proposal and funding

Too many negative minds here on Nairaland and it's very disgusting.

First and foremost I've conducted business with Ymodulus about 2 years ago. Joint importation group. I still haven't met him in person but he is honest and very accountable.

I've been in business for some years and I must tell you it's all about risk and trust.
Money transfer is not a big deal.

To those of you referring to a certain miss alabubosa. It's an insult to compare Ymodulus to her. Unknown to you guys. Ymodulus is a man of tested integrity with a track record. He has a very high I.Q. The sky is his limit.

He doesn't even need your money.

Too many small minds in here.

I don't know why Nigerians are celebrating this article. In all honesty this is an article that Nigerians should be sad about. Yes ,agreed the profit margin is good and that is even only if the story is wholly true ,it seems the get rich syndrome in Nigerians is what is making ppl jumpy about this news .
A Nigerian has succeeded in dashing almost 10million naira to Cameroon, the Cameroonians will shake hands with us and turn round to make jest of us,no wonder Africans usually call Nigeria "big for nothing", Nigeria happens to be the" only country in the world that export everything that she needs but import everything that she has" how can a Nigerian be happy to invest 76 million naira to import tomatoes and yet Nigerians are happy!!!! A white man will shake his head in disbelief if he reads it. Nigeria has the land, the weather, the human labour and all that is needed to produce tomatoes in export quantities. No wonder dangote is getting richer and richer ,he has seen the huge potentials in Nigeria and he is continuously and continually exploiting them. The only positive I can derive from this article is the fact that there is massive market potentials for tomatoes in Nigeria and the local supply is not enough to satisfy the local demand talk less of exportation. Investing in tomatoes farming in Nigeria definitely wouldn't cost up to the 76 mil or 10mil naira to import tomatoes!!. Instead of Nigerians thinking and racking their brains about dashing Cameroon money, lets ppl come together and work in starting up tomatoes farms ,a poster mentioned something about green houses and things like that ,many readers didn't take notice simply because of the Nigeria factor of get rich quick, buy today sell tomorrow and make profit but it is time we start planing for 10 years or more .
