Have a N28.00 target for Nigerian German by Mid 2008. I expect a bonus next year. I am in it for the Long term though.

Fundamentals for me should be the key word now. So Flour Mills, Dangote Sugar, WAPCo, Diamond are teh stocks on my BUY list
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 11:55pm On Nov 21, 2007
NGC is prob one of the best out there right now, glad to see folks holding onto it. I wish I had bought more, I like the fact that they are a jack of all trades
end of the year is Dec, can't wait to see reports. Unless something crazy happens, I'll keep it
Already in with Diamond, but had planned to add onto it and Access
My portfolio going into 2008 will be COSTAIN(TS), Nig-Ger, Access, Diamond, 1st Bank

With WEMA on suspension, I have gained about 67.28%. Is it reasonable that I keep watching?

Please, I need help here.

depends on what your exit price/plan was, when you bought it did you plan to sell it after 20%. 40%, 60, or 100% profit?

if you have achieved your aim you are most likely to sell, if not you might hold all in all its your call!

I checked the list of securities again today and everything keeps saying buy me.

Will you kindly advice on which securities I should go for that might be great in 4 years to come? I intend to share it between my family in 4 years time. Not kids but sisters.

@ Everyone
Has anyone considered UBN with it's proj EPS of 2.59 and PE of 15.86 following release of UBN's 1/2 year result. This looks to me like the best in the industry considering <10B outstanding shares. Will welcome comments.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 12:37am On Nov 22, 2007
bought diamond last week, my broker should get Access by tomorrow, and maybe more diamond by friday (its already gone N1 more than my previous purchase price)
I bought 1st bank's PO, and Costain is my #1 stock, pretty heavy in my portfolio already, I might sell some post TS but thats because I'll buy during the PO. I'm hoping the profit I make from the post TS run will be enough to cover what I got in the PO. grin
I had MBenefits which I had broker sell, and selling my Cornerstone

If you add the bonus shares, UBNs' forward PE should be in the region of 17.63 based on the half year result. True, it has the lowest forward PE in banking right now outside Wema, but many folks are not comfortable with the growth prospects. Of course not that UBN is not growing but maybe not at the expected rate. UBN seems to be lagging behind other first tier banks.

oh boy you are patient o! 4 years in fact if you choose any company on the list you will get a very good return on your investment as long as they don't go broke

to be honest it is so boring to just leave your stock with playing the game of buy n sell, i get bored if I don't sell or buy something in a month i feel like i'm missing out on something cheesy

over a very long period of time- say four years you can make 100% return which is good BUT the way this game is, you can make 400% within 4 months on some stocks which is great or as they say in my village gooder wink so i think its better to play the game it more fun that way- you can of course buy some for very long term and play with some. later you realise those in the long term are sitting there like a normal savings account or govt bonds but your short term stocks are giving you the va-va- vooooom!

goodluck wink

@ Gurus

I am torn between Bank PHB and Bagco. I like the positive energy coming from PHB ( their aggressive focus on growth, advertising and innovation will shoot them to the top). I also like Bagco because it is kinda a monopoly in Sack manufacturing ( if it retains its hold on market share over Dangote sacks) and their books have been cleaned to pay off profits so I know where I stand. Right now I am asking which one is the CLEAR 300% stock btw both say by the end of 2009 ( I am a long termer). Wanajo, Pumping, Easimoni, Frankiriri, Temmie 10, Aktopgun, Fatherof2, anyone interested in replying please chip in on this,

I don't no if I qualify to answer your question with all the big names mentioned above but all the same I will like to tell you that the two offers (BANK PHB AND BAGCO PLC) are good and since you are "a long termer "as you put it, you should try to buy the two. There is light at the end of the tunnel for both of them.

Peace.

I have to attend to daily routines. I only have 2 hours maximum to rest in 24 hours.

Fellow nairalanders,

I am about changing my stockbroker due to the poor communication and cheer inefficiency they have demonstrated with trading orders.I have a shortlist of 3 brokers that I am interested in.They are Afrinvest WA,UBA Stockbrokers and Greenwich Trust.
If you are with any of these 3 kindly let me know how they have dealt with you.Are you satisfied with them in terms of their honesty, communication, speed of executing orders, verification of share certificates and internet services?Would you recommend them as an efficient brokerage firm?
Pls kindly provide these information if you have it as I dont want to go into the same same situation as I have been.

Kind regards,

Keph

to all the gurus
When a company stock is placed on technical suspension and you want to sell it, does it mean that the stock can only be sold if another client of your own stockbroking firm wants to buy it?
in the case of wema, i can see that it is still being traded but my broker is saying she can't sell.

Also how is the closing price determined, cos i know people buy a particular stock at differnt prices in a day though not exceeding 5%, but how is the closing price determined?

I am using Afrinvest WA currently but I am not really impressed by their reactions. They have been trying to open my online account for more than 3 months now but no success. They don't respond to emails 'ONTIME' and most times the message I get is that the emails have been sent before. I don't think I will recommend them but on the scale of things, I will rate them 60% OK (Please note that I have other stock brokers) . However, I think it depends on your account officer. He/She might start off well and then degenerates as time goes by.
If you have N5m to start with, I will recommend Zenith Securities. They are more reliable and prompt in the dealings. The online facility is kind of perfect and moreover, you get lower commission rates (at least compared to Afrinvest).
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by Naijadr: 12:58pm On Nov 22, 2007
I use UBA stockbrokers through their Non Resident Nigerian Program (UBA NRN), its def a good option if u live in the US, UK or Canada. I get very prompt responses to my email within mins and no more than 1 business day, matter of fact just got one to confirm that they received a request to purchase shares that I sent barely an hr ago.
Everything is accounted for, plus I like the fact thats its a 1 stop shop, bank acct and capital market. Plus I've access to other options like home mortgage loans and all that comes with the NRN program, takes me 2 days to send money to my bank acct using ubaremit, cheaper than western union plus it goes to my acct and not someone else's central acct.
Online portal isnt functional but should be in a few mths, e-banking is available, now i make transactions by issuing purchase/sell mandates to the UBA-US rep who is extremely efficient. 2 business days to buy/sell unless the stock is unavailable or very hard to get. Being a huge bank and because of the importance of the NRN section, they bend over backwards. I've canceled sell orders successfully as long as I do it within 1 business day.
Minimum to start is N250k

NGC keeps climbing, N24.15 today!!

While other insurance stocks arent faring well, Cornerstone is climbing, now N4.17. Had a little in my portfolio and was really surprised, asked broker to sell it today, so he might get that done tomorrow, hope it might still be headed up even then.

1st Bank is also climbing, it'll be interesting to see once PO shares are released electronically.

I think the insurance sector is slowing down, obviously people still have a lot of believe in Crusader, did not take any hit.

Law and Union however did a full 5% - So far It has gone about 35% in the last 1 week. Lets see how tomorrow fares.
