A friend of mine who works for Ernst & Young in London as a partner told me some financial institutions have already moved into Nigeria and they are buying into fundamental companies. An example he gave to me was Renaissance group at:http://www.renaissancegroup.com/regions/africa.asp who had wanted to poach some of them and move them to Nigeria. With the success of Renaissance group in Nigeria,I have been informed that right now his firm is packaging about 2 other financial instituations to go into Nigeria. His advise to me:"Make sure most of your money is in solid companies and invest for long term".This makes sense because in the next 2 years none of the solid companies (First Bank,UBA,Zenith Bank et al) will be less than 100 naira, plus the bonus stocks one would have received.Competition for these companies is becoming stiffer and the game has just started.Stock business is never short term, that is speculation. And nairaland has made that very attractive with people announcing 3000 percent gains in 3 months!!!!! angry angry angry

As I said in my earlier post,I have become an disciple of Wanajo.80 percent of my money will now go into solid stocks and long term. The rest 20 percent will remain for CICO.For as they say, that is the money I can afford to lose.

Are you thinking what I am thinking?

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by blueband(m): 12:38am On Mar 15, 2008
Write to the DG of SEC and attach your evidence.Copy the letter to the MD of your stockbroking firm. That will make them call you immediately.

lol, Nothin o. The funny thing is that if they will never issue you a receipt for the payment so that leaves no paper trail (as they say in the movies). I have never paid, because i always stand my ground by telling them that it is illegal, but the last time i went, i had to argue a lot. Don't want that to continue.

I thought I was the only person thinking longer term until I read the last few pages. Anyways I will still CICO, but less frequently and more fundamentally.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by jideakin1: 2:53am On Mar 15, 2008
@invisible,
Makes sense my broda. Thinking the same too. Cico with good fundamental stocks and if things go wrong you just stay put.

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by invisible2(m): 3:05am On Mar 15, 2008
@Jideakin1, I noticed that what we are chasing as penny stochs or stocks with small nominal value is not sustainable in the long run.

I have benefited immensely from good CICO decisions this year, but how long are we going to be playing this game. Research in other markets has proved that what is expensive had always stayed up, in the average. While stocks that are cheap, or that has low nominal price will always spring nasty surprises.

Také our own environment for example, we like to chase low nominal value stocks, because of the performance of companies like ABC, but how many stocks below N10 can boast of the type of business plan exibited by ABC.

Look before you leap.

There's too much valuable info on this thread. Sometimes I don't know if I should just be a silent reader and download, especially since I've been crowded at work these past weeks. embarassed

Just wanted to add my own 2 kobo to aktopgun's on-going analysis of dunlop. If it freefalls below the support then someone high up knows something I don't. It's around here I would expect bounces off the support zone. My own take though.

Thanks to all for keeping this thread alive.

I have this based on linear projections.

Longman - 0.13B
UPL - 0.17B
Beta Glass - 0.69B -  Grab a copy at a shop near you quoting today's prices. Cavity Empty sha o.

I noticed you highlighted Linear - which might not hold for Longman - look at the past 9months and Full year results, it does not fit for a linear projection at all, (I would say hold at a minimum of 0.2B from last years FY)

(Now, this would have been a good example for the lesson you were trying to teach me sometime ago)

Its so interesting to see many CICO advocates now thinking longterm , without even seeing the bears yet. Just rewind this thread to three months ago (before my resignation) , when the fundamentalists were warning that he who is escorted will one day bear the brunt!

@RoughCut, I also said bye bye to Costain at N74.85 smiley Phewww goodluck to anyone else still on board, the price is way too outrageous, wont let greed get to me!! grin

My man!!! Abeg make you try give me the links up jo wink wink wink

Yes o. As bear market don reach now, advocates of long term don dey spring up. Are you surprised? I am not. I already saw in the last 3 weeks ago that the positive and motivating posts just diminish one time. Many are not used to the NSE where prices can go down too. grin grin grin

I sold my UAC prop today after a 8% gain post commission because the stock wasnt interesting and I didnt remember why I entered in the first place. Plus I have finally seen green on my DSR as i bought at 49 naira during the post PO rally. FINALLY!

@ Windywendy

I actually placed an order for may and baker already but since my broker is ajebo, he hasnt gotten it? based on fundamentals I think I have about 500k to put into one stock, would you recommend niwicable, maybaker or betaglass? so Ill make it an order for monday

I have already asked another broker to get me livestock and presco.

@ All

Your contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Its not as if am a strictly CICO bomber, this is my fifth year on the NSE and its only this yr I started CICO. I still have stocks bought at very ridiculously low prices which am carrying since then and will still keep till I turn 107 years!

Just joking sha, but my long term portfolio is very thick. It will stay until my grand children will be old enough to attend board meetings.

@ Mecatchcha,

who you dey call oga?no be you and Dangote name dey forbes magazine so?
Anyway per your Japaul question, since January 18 when it crossed the N10 mark,it's not dropped down below it.It has made some doji yo-yo(apologies Roughcut) moves though between 11+ and 14+but not more than 15(wonder why that is so)

This trend I think will continue in the coming week,as I don't see it getting to N16 (hey this is NSE so if it does I wont be surprised @ all).
So you know when you bought, what price you bought @,therefore depending on your objective for buying the stock you can take whatever decsions you wish to;whether to sell some or hold all, BUT NEVER SELL ALL

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by wanaj0: 10:57am On Mar 15, 2008
@ Alll,

For those going fro fundamental less stocks, you need to know the facts behind the figures. Just don't buy anything!!!!

I know that Kola Kareem is buying Alumaco hence the trending up of the price. Capital will be injected and the price will trend up.

A group just bought 40% of IPWA, so the price is definitely going up.

For the person asking about Union Bank, Union bank did well in the past. I enjoyed the 1 for 3 a number of times. Then they were delivering better than First Bank. Now things have changed. They came to the market too early with the rights/PO @ the 20.00 range. Secondly, the management is not forward looking. They no longer have the competitive edge. All the banks now are well capitalised and safe so what attraction does UBN has? They are not growing profit like others. No strategic investment. No niche market. That's the major drawback for UBN!!!
