ONWARD PAPER PP shockedshine una eyes shocked

Just a line from the prospectus

Financial Review

The company recorded a loss after tax of N40.6 million due to its huge interest burden. This was as a result of bank facilities it undertook in order to fund its restructuring plan. It therefore intends to cushion the effect of its debt through the equity injection from its proposed private placement.

However, the company has been able to show its ability to improve performance through the growth in turnover in the last financial year. Its sales increased by 27% from N638.2 million to N810.9 million. This was mainly due to the restructuring exercise that is going on at OPML.

I just read this from the financial review of the PP. How easy is it to sell a company to the public that doesn't make any profits? Well, only in 9ja as usual. I would strongly advice everyone to sure read through every prospectus of these companies before investing. I just read eveyone asking about the application forms and the closing dates. I'd think people will talk about their opinion about a company's fundamental before investing. But then, in NSE, anything wey go market, person go de wey wan buy. grin grin

I would not be surprised if this PP gets oversubscribe still.  smiley

That said, I no same anybody no buy anything o. Afterall, I bin use Onward exercise book go school. grin

@ EKWA

Welcome!

How did your broker manage 7 million units of AIICO?
Was is from the secondary market or PO?

Couldn't get it even through an AIICO director - said there was no such thing except for the ones specifically mentioned in the prospectus.

Can you please share your brokers name. Will like to open an account with them.

@ Easimoni

Thanks for the Food Concepts prospectus. Been looking for it.

What is penny Stocks?

In the U.S. financial markets, the term penny stock commonly refers to any stock trading outside one of the major exchanges (NYSE, NASDAQ, or AMEX), and is often considered pejorative. However, the official Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) definition of a penny stock is a low-priced, speculative security of a very small company, regardless of market capitalization or whether it trades on a securitized exchange (like NYSE or NASDAQ) or an "over the counter" listing service, such as the OTCBB or Pink Sheets. The terms penny stocks, microcap stocks, small caps, and nano caps are also all sometimes used interchangeably, however per the SEC definition, penny stock status is determined by share price, not market capitalization or listing service.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by peribiz(m): 6:59pm On Mar 15, 2008
Small definitions:

Market capitalization (aka market cap, mkt cap or capitalized value) is a measurement of corporate or economic size equal to the share price times the number of shares outstanding of a public company.

The OTC Bulletin Board or OTCBB is an electronic quotation system in the United States that displays real-time quotes, last-sale prices, and volume information for many over-the-counter (OTC) equity securities that are not listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market or a national securities exchange. Broker-dealers who subscribe to the system can use the OTCBB to look up prices or enter quotes for OTC securities.

The Pink Sheets is an electronic quotation system that displays quotes from broker-dealers for many over-the-counter (OTC-traded) securities. Market makers and other brokers who buy and sell OTC securities, can use the Pink Sheets to publish their bid and ask quotation prices. The name "Pink Sheets" comes from the color of paper the quotes were printed on prior to the electronic system. They are published today by Pink Sheets LLC, a privately owned company.

The term microcap stock (also micro-cap) is used to describe publicly traded companies which have a market capitalization of roughly US$250 million or less. The vast majority of U.S. stocks fall into this category, but they make up only a small fraction of the total stock market value. Most are traded on over the counter exchanges, and their prices are quoted on the OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB) or the Pink Sheets.
Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by peribiz(m): 7:00pm On Mar 15, 2008
In the UK markets, penny stocks, or penny shares as they are more commonly called, generally refer to stocks and shares in small cap companies, defined as being companies with a market capitalization of less than £100 million and/or a share price of less than £1 with a bid/offer spread greater than 10%, In the UK Penny Shares are covered by a standard regulatory risk warning issued by the Financial Services Authority(FSA).

In France, penny stocks generally refer to risky stocks with a price of less than 1 Euro.

Penny stocks generally have market caps under $500M and are considered extremely speculative, particularly those that trade on low volumes over the counter. The Securities and Exchange commission warns that, "Penny stocks may trade infrequently, which means that it may be difficult to sell penny stock shares once you own them. Because it may be difficult to find quotations for certain penny stocks, they may be impossible to accurately price. That is why leveraging on expertise is expedient and also doing your own due dilligence is very precious.

Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by peribiz(m): 7:21pm On Mar 15, 2008
A little work can go a long way.

In the case of penny stocks, the amount of effort and research you put into finding the perfect investments is directly proportional to success.

Almost all traders who get involved with penny stocks are doing so for the wrong reasons. For example, they hear a hot tip from a friend at work, or see a small news article about a company in the paper. Unfortunately, by the time you hear about the shares, they are already common knowledge.

For those of you who are willing to research extensively, the theories will be incredibly valuable.

If you are not inclined to do very much work, or do not have the time to commit, these concepts become even more important. They will show you how to

Easily rank stocks
Avoid the common mistakes
Perhaps you do not want to do any research yourself at all, but instead prefer to use a professional penny stock picking service. This is also an excellent way to proceed, as long as you decide on a service that is reliable and accurate.

I recommend that you do use the services of a professional penny stock analysis company, but besides PeterLeeds.com, I would not consider any of the other options out there to be 'professional.' Generally they are individuals who have figured out how to program a web page, and their expertise does not go far beyond that.

A Little Work
As I have mentioned, a little work can go a long way. However, most traders do not put in the required effort, or any effort for that matter. Those of you who are willing to do the extra due diligence or analysis will benefit greatly from what you are about to read.

Understand that 95% of penny stock companies should be considered bad or dangerous investments. However, the proven approach outlined in the next several sections of Understanding Penny Stocks makes it easy to tell which stocks should be ruled out.

A Long Way
As you become more experienced, you will learn that a good penny stock trader can make money on good and bad penny stocks alike, simply by investing at the right time. Since every stock fluctuates, you shall see that money can be made by buying even the worst companies at the right time, and money can be lost by buying the best companies at the wrong time.

Ideally you want to accumulate the best penny stock companies at the most advantageous prices. I suggest using fundamental analysis to discover which are the best penny stock companies, while using technical analysis to pick the most opportune buying prices.
